Are we all living in Xabi's save file? Second game in a row Leverkusen equalize in 90+6, now 46 games unbeaten.

Indeed it is!

I think we farmed Wigan 6-0 and 8-0 in same season. We started the season with 3x 6-0 wins under Ancelotti.

Oh no they were not the same season, so the reverse fixtures never amounted to it, i stand corrected.

Again the Premiere League has got to fix this. VAR is one thing, this could easily be considered match fixing. Remember last year with Tottenham and Brighton(?) here we go again, the Refs should be replaced it's like an old boys club. It's abundant there is some form of corruption going on.

Refs fuck up, fair enough.

The idea that they have agendas against particular teams really just doesn’t stand up to scrutiny

Yeah this one i can understand why he did it, keeper thought it was a foul and ref is like fuck i didn't say it was a foul or not, so he just stopped the play.

That might be wrong but also if keeper thought it was a foul being given it be unfair on him as well?

Shit situation all round, no winners, just more poor referee COMMUNICATION...Prem really needs to invest in referee's, lets get more of them, train them and pay them properly so we can expect good results. Can't call ourselves best league in world if its refereeing is sub standard.

Several sides profited from this decision, so a lot of winners...

Who outside of extreme masochists is going to want to be a referee in this day and age?

I’ve read multiple articles that there’s a pretty hefty shortage of referees at grass roots level in the UK game because the culture of referee bashing extends right the way down and people couldn’t be arsed with the hassle.

Compared to the money that is in the PL, they should be ahead of all other teams by a large margin. But the reality looks way different luckily :D

Considering our record when Taylor is reffing our games, idk. I'm sure someone could run a statistical analysis of the probability of losing/drawing more frequently with Taylor and I'm sure it would show as statistically significant.

Our team sucks anyways right now. Draw is probably a fair result for us considering we relied on an OG to draw.

I think it’s possible that refs may make more errors with home teams, or traditionally big teams. The home side due to the atmosphere swinging it, the latter likely down to an ‘oh shit I’m gonna get slaughtered for the next week if I make this call’.

Which are both subconscious to a degree I’d imagine. What analysis I have seen and thus far failed to find again tends to come to those kind of conclusions. And even then it’s very minor.

I mean it has its issues with implementation, but any analysis I’ve seen of VAR has it as getting more calls right than before, and even before refs still got the vast, vast amount of calls correct.

I’m not some shill for Big RefTM or anything but it strikes me that the main issue is unrealistic expectations and the general culture between fans and referees, or the media and refs

This is the same ref that had be bailed out by Mike Dean on the VAR. Again as this was posted the refs are admitting that they essentially fixed the match in order cover their own ass.

mike dean is a disgrace. whats even more surprising is how clueless he is about the severity of his admissions. this video is probably the most damning thing to come out against english referees. theres gotta be a huge shake up of english refereeing, its a complete joke

Puzzles me as well, but at least it's good this is out in the open, so situations like this can be evaluated in the future and vars will be held accountable more. Maybe they shouldn't be 'a team of 6' at all? (My idea is there should be multiple vars like in boxing, but that's an entirely different discussion)

Maybe - and I know this is a radical idea - VAR is a mistake and it's actively making refereeing worse.

that idea is not so radical. ive heard many many people say they preferred pre var days to this.
personally i would not be against the abolition of var. if were going to continue to give referees some slack for "human error", id rather those errors take place when theres only 3 referees to make a decision with and they have to do it live on the pitch. you can live with some decisions when its happening live and refs are granted the benefit of doubt.

refs really dont have an excuse for fucking shit up as badly as they do when they get slow motion screens replayed 10 times. if theyre not going to be held accountable for wrong decisions either way, just get rid of var. it wastes time, kills celebrations and creates way more drama/controversy than it should.

Watched most of that. To me the main issue there is VAR not wanting to call the ref over to the monitor and the ref not wanting to be called over. That seems like a mentality problem that the refs need to work on. They don't mind the linesman waving a flag around if they see a foul the referee didn't. So why is the monitor worse? This also seems to be an English problem, because I don't see the same attitude in other countries (or maybe they just don't talk about it).

A referee making a mistake when they only get to look at something once is understandable, and the very best referees make very few glaring mistakes despite this restriction. That a gaggle of referees still make mistakes even though they get to look at something umpteen times is a joke, and yet the on-field referee will feel pressured into accepting their intervention.
