Yes if you don't take my first points then fair enough that is more opinionated, but like Klopp said TNT the broadcaster point black said to him that they pay for his players to play basically and they want them to play more lol.

So yeah they need to do something, maybe make the season longer by a week or two so more breaks can happen, maybe they could add a full week for the end of the season, so that there is a complete break before last game so teams can make up a game there.

Maybe drop the 3pm blackout?

The only reason the 12:30 kickoff has as much appeal as it does as a slot is you can’t watch those games. So there’s a pretty clear incentive for the broadcasters to stick a big draw in there.

I’m not convinced it really accomplishes what it’s there for in the first place, especially with all the other deleterious impacts the Premier League has on the overall pyramid.

For those outside of the UK and unaware, the Saturday 3pm Prem kick-offs are forbidden, and have been for years from being broadcast live in the UK. The rationale is that people would stay in/hit the pub and watch Premier League football rather than attend lower league football games.

I’m unsure it actually accomplishes this aim, and it’s quite irritating that despite crazy prices us folks in the UK can watch fewer games than many abroad.

And yeah better coordination to get a more reasonable turnaround between competitions would go a long way. Many frame it as Klopp complaining about a 12:30 early start, it’s never really been his specific issue. It’s how a sequence of league-Europe-league-Europe is spaced.

2 games a week can be absolutely mitigated, the Prem and broadcasters just don’t bother helping out much in this regard. If you’ve a Europa League game on Thursday, let’s say it goes the absolute distance. You might not be back in England until 12/1am Friday and you may have a match Saturday to boot. Which is daft! Mon-Thurs-Mon-Thurs would be a much more reasonable way to split it, to pick one example

Yeah 3pm blackout has to go, they are kinda moving away from it with the new tv schedule coming in from 25-26 season i think with basically 80% of the games being on tv...so less 3pm games and every game on sunday will be on tv regardless of how many teams are playing.

I also don't get the 12:30 slot, its awful time slot which won't generate many viewers, most people won't be in the pubs or finished work until 12-1pm anyway, then they will be heading to the pubs for 3pm, to then go out on the night time etc, so i swear it has to be the least viewed games on tv in the timeslot?

Never think about start times based on local time. You guys locally are not their biggest target

Btw 12h30 feels great for us here. Means if one so desires, he can pack 3 epl games in one afternoon and then watch our own league at 19h and call it a saturday

For all its popularity worldwide the domestic TV deal is still the lion’s share of the Prem’s broadcast revenue.

And iirc one of the biggest overseas deals is with the US actually so it’s not exactly a good time for them. 7:30am if you’re on the East of that country, even earlier if we go West

I think the English teams just suffer in Europe due to the competitive nature of the league

There’s quite a lot of rotation in who qualifies, especially for the Europa League/Conference spots. And quite often a team in the Europa is in the mix for the Champions League too, which takes priority.

Football is football, but for whatever reason it often does seem that adjusting to European competition is a thing as well. Whether it’s the extra fixtures, different styles of teams and refereeing, intimidating atmospheres or whatever.

So Villa are both newbies, as well as qualifying to the Champions League being the bigger prize for them, and though it’s almost signed and sealed at Tottenham’s expense, it’s not quite 100%

Newcastle were actually pretty good this year in the toughest group and I dislike the club for obvious reasons but I think they were pretty much robbed by a daft penalty as well.

Liverpool had a shocker against Atalanta but they’re in for the league title as their priority.

Brighton had a decent run but they’re just not having as good a season all-round as last time out.

Arsenal and Man City were IMO the better sides in their ties but lost. No shame there, it happens at the pinnacle of European football.

To take a counter example, West Ham have had a couple of years qualifying for Europe and I think you see the difference with a team that;
A - Has a bit of experience
B - Aren’t at the level to win a CL spot via the league

I think it’s a mix that the teams good enough to cake the Europa League either don’t find themselves in it, or when they are it’s rarely something that’s prioritised. And the teams that qualify for Europe below that either don’t do it every season and lack experience, or have their sights set on the Champions League qualification via the league.

England doesn’t really have its Sevilla equivalent(s), good enough to qualify for the Europa League every year, not good enough to push for the league title or CL qualification consistently. I think if the league was more consistent and delivered such a scenario more often you’d see better English performance

If we’re looking at the last 4 of the Europa League, you’re seeing an excellent Leverkusen and 3 other teams who kinda tick those boxes. Atalanta have a bunch of European experience lately but aren’t challenging for leagues, same with Roma. Marseilles are in Europe most years in some capacity but are in a similar boat.

As neutral fan I’ve found it a pity that English sides don’t prioritise the non-CL European competitions more, but it’s been like this for a while and this afflicts domestic competitions as well. Teams in the relegation battle or push for Europe frequently don’t put out their strongest teams in the cups to try and actually win something, which is a pity IMO

Hmm so thats why Bayern and Dortmund are doing so well in Europe this season? Their failures in the league and their overall very good quality of a squad gives them the edge to teams that are not focused on Europe?

He's still only 23! Seems like he's been around forever.
He's got plenty of time to earn a big transfer and make it big.
He's starting to develop that Robben/Mahrez style, where you know they're going to cut inside but can't stop them doing it anyway.

Individually might be the us but i reckon the asian countries or all the EU countries combined would beat that no? And those would like that start time.

Then again if the stupid sums they are paying are only for local rights and not full exclusive to then re-sell im surprised and i stand corrected. Plus the amount of money is even more stupid then :/

I would never thought they were paying that just for local broadcasts. Is there enough local advertising to support those deals? Wow

can anyone think of a worse injury crisis than what united have had at centre back this season?

Liverpool 20/21 at centre back would be close. VVD, Matip, Gomez, Milner all went down. They got Fabinho and Henderson to cover and they went down too. They recruited Kabak and Ben Davies on loan and they also went down.

Maybe the PL should stop throwing money at single "maybe good" players and start building squads that can actually deal with so many games.
And also why would you need 2 local cups as in League Cup and FA Cup?
As is now, the PL is pretty embarrassing international and this time it really cost them with the new format CL.

I don’t think it’s especially embarrassing, not that I’m stanning the Premier League. Arsenal and Man City very easily could have got through those ties, and they’re locked in a league contest that is going to the wire.

Outside of Man United of course, but I think it’s testament to why England sometimes doesn’t perform as well as it should. A team of Liverpool’s quality can actually miss out on the CL.

Draw somewhat opened up for Dortmund, as it did for my beloved Inter last year. And I rather do like Dortmund and hope to go to a match one day! Indeed I can’t think of many fans outside of direct rivals who don’t like Dortmund, almost the opposite of PSG so I hope they make the final.

The rest of Europe should be thankful the mental amounts of money swirling in English football doesnt translate directly to performance, or they’d be absurdly dominant. I know I certainly am!

I do think to at least some degree they are just dealing with a bit of good old football inflation. They’ve got a lot of money and everyone knows it, I mean if I won the lottery people will have a different expectation of my generosity than before.

Spurs had a pretty rough one when Maddison and a few others were all out. They’ve a squad where a few key misses and they’re really struggling for quality.

But aye that’s fair for United. It’s not really an excuse for their season as they’ve been underwhelming across the pitch, but they have really been threadbare at centre back

Chelsea have had 14 players out for multiple weeks of the season and we are all happy as fans when we see we only have 6 injuries listed lol.

Newcastle have tied us with injuries this year as well and our teams are way ahead on injuries this season.

Simply, just watch how much Leverkusen will get ripped apart this summer as there players are offered 3x there salaries by West Ham and such.

How is West Ham arab money? Palace? Its not a flex its the point im making, the leagues are clearly not as strong because the mid to lower table clubs in England can take there players with triple the salaries without european football...that is why the premier league is stronger, doesn't mean it produces the talent because it doesn't need to, it just sucks it up from the other leagues.

Also im going off of Klopp's comments here not my own! He said its the toughest and hardest league in the world and the reason its struggling sometimes in Europe (This season is a blip, as last season european conference league and champs league was won by English sides) is because of the workload as the premier league doesn't give special treatment unlike other leagues.
