It could be a reset, but all the world cup stuff is still going to hit them much harder than smaller clubs too. For the bigger clubs half of your squad is going to be spread out practising some other system in their respective national teams whereas club like Brighton can probably sit back, rest a bit and then sit down to improve their own system with most of their squad present.

Ya, it can go both ways. But I basically think that Newcastle is currently performing better than you'd assume based on their players, while United, Liverpool and Chelsea are all currently performing worse than you'd assume based on their players. Giving them a 6 week break means there's likely to be some change in form, and for Newcastle, there's less opportunity to move upwards, because their squad is much closer to their potential high level. Having fewer of your players gone during the WC definitely seems like an advantage, but I think that factor is kinda balanced by squad potential (also indicated by how many international callups a team might have).
It might be that this is also me underestimating them player by player, though.

World Cup is gonna make a big dent in some teams: Last game day in PL is 13th November. World Cup starts a week later, so no break here.
Quarterfinals are around 10th December. PL starts Boxing Days on 26th. Two weeks later. I can imagine Premier League players will be absolutely exhausted physically and mentally and injuries will follow shortly after

There's probably going to be a big difference between World Cup teams that make a deep run and those knocked out in the group stage too.
The whole thing is a huge mess.

Ayyyyy Yanited has to play Barca, now de Jong is at Old Trafford

Is it just me, or anyone else not feeling quite hyped for WC due to the timing? There's not enough proper build-up, cuts away from the suspense that's just building up for the European leagues, and doubtful that top club players are fully focused on the WC.
All in all, the WC feels like some random Disney++ MCU short series filling up the gap between cinematic MCU blockbusters.

Uff there are some big games quite early
RB Leipzig - Manchester City Club Brügge - Benfica Lissabon FC Liverpool - Real Madrid AC Mailand - Tottenham Hotspur Paris Saint-Germain - FC Bayern München Eintracht Frankfurt - SSC Neapel Borussia Dortmund - FC Chelsea Inter Mailand - FC Porto

World Cups are always going to be associated with childhoods memories of summers collecting panini stickers and watching a ton of the games as it was during summer holidays. In adulthood it was associated with taking breaks during the slower summer months to get the whole office to watch the game on a big screen. This year it's just going to be weird.

I am going to watch quite some games, but it is by far the least hype wc of my lifetime, at most 40% of regular wcs.

I hope this time there will be a referee who does not penalize bayern for psg players fouling their team mates. The constant diving will also again be incredibly annoying.

The Athletic are reporting that FSG have put Liverpool up for sale.

Yes, the summertime party feeling forms a big part of the WC vibe. While being a holiday month too, December for most people is the time to have quiet private moments with family or to rush off work before the year end. I know the EPL love packing games during the Christmas Day period. For me and most of my football friends outside of UK, we hardly catch any of those games and the results just fly by us. Almost all other European leagues take a proper year-end break.

Maybe it's different for you sinterklaas people but here, Christmas break doesn't start until December 21st (for schools and teachers). The final game of the WC is on the 18th. So yeah, it'll also have to be combined with work, which feels totally off - WC is normally a special boost for summer break.

don't know why they'd want to compete with jeff bezos in buying washington's nfl team - it's a losing cause

Some people take the whole December off for a long vacation. But yeah, majority of people just take off during the Christmas-New Year period, and will be slogging off at work or school in the first half of December. So the WC timing is just bad for most people.
