Yeah, I know, just wishful thinking. Forest looks pretty much doomed. Emery and Lopetegui are seasoned enough to steer Villa and Wolves to safety. Leicester has too much quality and merely had a bad slump. Sad to say, Southampton Is the next likely relegation contender. But there's still hope of Everton clinging onto Lampard long enough to drop!

Thank fuck we scored finally

I can't believe Chelsea paid 70m for Cucurella

Cucu was ok, biggest issue is Potter looks so far out of his depth not even funny lol. Players like Lofty starting every game when guy wouldn't even get into a championship first team is crazy. Add in the likes of Kai is just shite every week and no idea if he wants to play back 3 or 4, seems this job is way too big for him right now...hope im proven wrong or he will be out of a job soon.

Absolutely unreal how well we're doing this season. I'm so glad I can finally watch an Arsenal side that doesn't make me want to give up football lmao

I'm just not seeing who is supposed to score goals for you.

He’s done alright so far has he not? Least as a neutral and the odd game I’ve watched. I would have given Tuchel more time to knit things together personally, but if you’re going to replace him with a coach like Potter whose strengths lie in building over time I think it would be madness to turf him out without even one transfer window to play with.
Impressed with Arsenal today, although I still stick to my guns that the best they can hope for is a comfortable second place finish.
Even playing very well they win by the odd goal, so there’ll probably be games they don’t get the rub of the green. And City will continue to just hoover up points and end up in the 90s
Their first 11/13 players look up to it but even a few key injuries and it’ll be rough.
Hey I’d love to be proven wrong, would be great as a neutral to see this Arsenal pull it off

Yeah that is even bigger problem since Potter came in. Tuchel was all in on Sterling and then got Aubemeyang in to try help it and then got sacked, jesus man its bad right now. I don't like restarting the club process now Roman has gone and we are going to finish mid table now lol.

I usually don't pay attention or read too much into post-game analysis.
But Potter's excuse that the match results reflect where both teams are at (and that Arteta has more time to build a team) is rather depressing and not something the Chelsea management especially would like to hear. It's the kind of negativity that probably got Tuchel sacked. And worst still, it's not even a very accurate comment to make. We're not comparing Chelsea and Man City here. Chelsea has just as much quality as Arsenal even with the injuries. And if Potter is saying he needs a season to rebuild the team like Arteta last season, well he seems to be forgetting exactly what kind of club he's signed up to...
|
how is potter's analysis that arsenal have had more time to gel wrong? he just joined a team that was already kind of in a shambles in the previous season and the problems havent gotten better. and tuchels firing was very odd and probably just downright stupid, but we cant be sure yet whether this chelsea will be like the chelsea under abramovich where they burn through managers every 2 seasons.
|
The only top clubs in "shambles" that can resort to the excuse of needing more time to rebuild is MU and Arsenal. Due to long-term dysfunction and underperformance. I don't think Chelsea qualifies for that. Last season was a struggle but they still made Top 4 and into CL.
It's an excuse that middle-tier clubs like Leicester and West Ham are qualified to make too.
Look, it's just not something a manager would say after losing a London derby at home. It's indirectly saying the current batch of players suck and the management messed up big time. It's just a selfish thing to say. Just own up to your mistakes, or just focus on areas of improvement.

Yeah exactly, that has infuriated our fanbase and rightfully so, the players we have are not City level that is for sure, but they are 1 team in the 20 team league, our squad on paper is still better than arguably 19 other teams but we are playing worse than 15 of them at the moment lol.
Saying we are far behind Arsenal is bad enough as in reality we should not be, we have a basis of a team that won champions league 2 years ago haha.

Good ebening!
Also Union Berlin getting blasted right now by Neverkusen, was enjoying Bayern not being top

City’s, or Pep’s squad I mean, they’re not perfect but I mean down to a man you can see how they fit what the coach wants to do. Or how Arsenal are developing. Or lower down a West Ham, or a Fulham or a Leeds. Or a Brighton
Chelsea sure, tons of talent but I’m just not sure what the endgame is. Two very good, expensive left backs but there’s not any like-for-like cover for Kante
A bunch of talent in terms of winger/10s with only so many places available.
Haavertz is clearly an exceptional talent who it’s difficult to actually fit in and maximise it.
I wouldn’t rule them out I just think a bit of time is needed to knit it all together

I believe the Arsenal bubble will pop soon. Just a matter of time. Squad depth is lacking. Once injuries and fatigue set in, their young team might not be able to maintain their good form through the rest of th season.
But that said, Arsenal has done really, really well. Gabriel Jesus has been a phenomenal signing. I don't know exactly how last season's team was. But the fact that they have a young team means that the team has been 'rebuilt' in less than a season. They're not an established well-knitted side like Man City and Liverpool. Hence another reason why the comparison with Arsenal rather odd. Also, Arsenal's player pool was much worse than Chelsea when Arteta took over. Saying that Arteta took time to rebuild Arsenal to the top now somewhat undercuts his amazing work in a short space of time over a squad in 'shambles'.
Speaking of time to rebuild, Man Utd is yet another puzzle - not sure whether they're moving forwards or backwards. And Emery showing exactly how top managers don't need time to 'rebuild' and can make immediate impact to close the gap between the 'shambles' they are at and teams above them.

we sucked today for sure but lets not pretend emery is some genius. pretty much every squad goes through a honeymoon phase with a new manager. its no different for aston villa right now

Any Toons fans? Anyone feeling that they'll get Top 4 this season?

I was a fan for 30 years, that ended slightly less than a year ago. But I feel their top 4 chances look good. United Chelsea pool are all looking very mediocre. WC is very poorly timed though, might be a bit of a reset.

Then factor in January, and even one or two real top signings on top of that.
The longer Arsenal and City keep up this form, the more that’s at least two CL spots almost certainly locked down. Liverpool are showing signs of waking up from their slumber, but have been inconsistent to say the least.
But really none of the teams that you’d expect to be firing into those remaining CL spots really are stringing together either consistent results or consistent performances.
I do think some of those teams have a higher ceiling if they can hit it than Newcastle, who are playing about as well as they realistically can, so I think a lot will depend on if other teams get their act together, or don’t.
Hassenhutl gone also. Not sure what to make of that.

Big damage can be done though for the likes of Newcastle before that happens, if they beat Chelsea next game and Liverpool slip up or Yanited again that puts them comfortably 3rd in the table.
Oh well, #ItsComingHome begins soon
