Somehow I remember Scholes as someone who was great at fouling and injuring people and that's about it. Best midfielder of his generation? He wasn't even the greatest midfielder in his national team with a Lampard and Gerrard around

Saw that in a movie once @Wombat Somehow I remember Scholes as someone who was great at fouling and injuring people and that's about it. Best midfielder of his generation? He wasn't even the greatest midfielder in his national team with a Lampard and Gerrard around Scholes was a great passer and had a cracking long range shot, but he definitely wasn't even close to the greats. Roy Keane was twice the player imo.

I won't get into the debate on Lampard v Gerrard v Scholes. But I always thought Scholes would've made a better partnership with Lampard / Gerrard in the England midfield. Scholes can offer something different and special.

Different era. 4-4-2 was still king and England tended to be at their best with a destroyer type in the middle. Nicky Butt was remarkably good at the 2002 WC, latterly Owen Hargreaves In modern times you 100% can make a midfield trio of them work

The only reason Spain got good results in both the Eurocup and Nation's League is because Luis Enrique is a good coach. The problem is that altough he is good with training, tactics, motivation, etc, he is really questionable making the selection lists. It is absurd that he never calls Nacho for example, and I'm a Barcelona supporter.

I still think City win the title though. I just hope Arsenal can hang on.

I think alot depends on how teams restart after the WC, injuries, and the January window of course.

Given our current standing I fully expect super talented players to want to sign with us in the transfer window

I am 100% confident that we win the title this year Don’t jinx it or this will be filed in with Wombat’s ‘Real Madrid have been outplayed every round, they’ll definitely lose this one’ in the pantheon of excellent predictions. I must say it’s looking more possible by the week though. City haven’t kicked into that gear where they win every game and push the title winning threshold well into the 90s. And nobody is kicking into that groove from the chasing pack either. Arsenal will come into January, with the WC factored in, probably on the top of the league, and with a very high chance of qualifying for the CL Which (potentially) covers Arsenal’s main deficiency vs a City, squad depth. I think they’re in a similar boat to Newcastle, they’re almost ahead of schedule, which makes them a more attractive proposition for potential signings, which lets them make the signings that can maybe get them over the line. Footballers by and large, tend to back themselves. Why you see so many moves happen where you’re scratching your head going ‘how the fuck did they ever think they’d displace x player in the team they’re moving to?’. Most prospective signings won’t be looking ‘oh what if Arsenal drop off and don’t get the CL?’, it’ll be more ‘Oh I’ve got a great chance to contribute to a title run, and play in the CL. And I’m good so it’ll happen if I join’.

Realistically if they’re getting a lot of game time, Kane is injured or having a complete nightmare. Neither of which bode well
