Sigh I really don’t see what’s being accomplished with these ridiculous deals. It’s not like winning a bidding war for some beloved shows to drag people to your new streaming platform or whatever, much as I love Messi especially I’m not bothered to follow what he’s up to if he moves. Perhaps there’s some super obvious aspect I’m missing here

Then it makes it a lot easier to convince mid tier players to go there (or even higher) because they can play with (even if old) cronaldo and Messi. Then they get these two to do adverts for them etc. and paint a positive image to bring in the tourism. Is it worth it? Not sure. But i dont think they are just burning money away for fun

The end goal is not to have the best football league, it's to get tourists and investors. The Chinese Super League boom a few years back was also due to a government directive. Then suddenly they decided it wasn't a priority, pulled support and half the teams have gone bankrupt. It will be interesting to see how long this project lasts.

Cronaldo might not have the pull it used to in Europe, but in some parts of Asia he still makes things turn, so they are pushing that market. That is why they have so many players signed as tourism embassors. In other news, it seems Ugarte to chelsea is not going to happen, last minute gigantic contract offer from PSG took the player from comiting to chelsea into a Paris shirt, reports in Portugal claim. Same amount paid to the club for the player it seems.
