Lewandowski won Bundesliga and the German Cup and broke goal scoring records from Gerd Muller Jorginho won champions league and european championships and played an integral role in both. Kante is just Kante a god. Then you have players like Salah, De Bruyne and Ronaldo which have arguments for it as well. mixing jorginho in that reply should be ban worthy even for you pande ![]() ![]() but yeah, arguing that jorginho was part of 2 winning teams on the season and that could qualify him for this award would be a reason why these individual awards are viewed down by fans. Kante is a legend, but still not best player in the world caliber. Salah and de bruyne i could stay here all day explaining why obviously not. And what arguments has cronaldo for this year? Lewa would be the biggest contender. unfortunately, some of what he does is a little devalued by people due to being in bayern crushing bundesliga as a given. He did finish the season with 41 goals, more than messi but messi had the team effort that people love so much to mix in (which is barely acceptable on top players, and should never promote the likes of jorginho to these kind of conversations o.O). not that i think messi had an outstanding year or that he should win....i was just trying to say that in the end, he had a national team title and lewa did not and that seems a relevant factor in recent years (again, i dont agree with this policy). im just replying again on this subject because although messi's year was not stellar, he still ended up with a very respectable goal tally for the season, carried argentina and did what he could for a terrible barcelona and overall is still messi. although not stellar, that is enough to put him ahead of everyone in your post not named lewandowski.

game pretty much demonstrated how the team can't go any further with this staff.

Well individually the likes of Jorginho and Kante are the reason Chelsea do so well though and Italy again go through Jorginho but fair enough. Messi scored 4 goals in a copa america winning run where Ronaldo did that in a last 16 exit for Portugal in the Euros in a group of death yet Messi is on course for winning this individual award. Bookmakers make it Messi vs Lewa at least and the rest are big outsiders.

Wonder if something happens during national team break, if Solskjær is still in charge after, the bad form must have ended or he'll be gone shortly after. I thought they needed at least 8 points and fairly good performances from the previous 5 games - now they got 7 points with one and a half good performance, and the four way competition looks like it's gonna be a three way competition. Oh well!

It’s only relatively recently it’s been awarded for the outright best performing individual player. I’m ok with either approach, but I really wish they’d stick to one set of criteria. Modric it felt won because for one year the Messi/Ronaldo fatigue was so high, Wesley Sneijder had a miracle season when Inter won the treble and the Netherlands made a WC final but didn’t get it.

But Kante would be definitely my top contender for Ballon d'or.

It will be hilarious if they actually get relegated.

Newcastle need to buy players like Zaha and Tarkowski/Mee from Burnley and go like that imo. Get a strong mid table then push European places.
