The location of the world cup matters a lot and I think many people will underestimate Asian and African nations (in the group stages) | ||

Even so, out of the African and Asian nations, Qatar seems to be the worst performer by a good distance. I know they play home games, but they'll have to overperform MASSIVELY to not come dead last in their group, let alone make it to the knockout stage. Their presence in pot 1 is hilarious. | ||

There is the potential for some unequal groups, but imo the system of seeding all teams according to ranking instead of only the top7/8 is still a massive improvement over how it used to be before. For germany, I'm way more worried about who we are going to draw from pot 3 than who we get from pot 1. If it is a team like serbia or poland, we're probably going home after the group stages again. | ||
