Spanish Federation just fucked it.
Until some months ago the host was Bilbao (Athletic new "San Mamés"), an awesome and recently build stadium.
But Basque government didn't allow it because covid and they changed it in the last moment to Sevilla.
But... they choosed that olimpic stadium that it is used like once per year and almost abandoned. Despite Betis stadium being the 4th biggest stadium in la Liga. Or Sevilla f.c Stadium is great too. Both are real well maintained stadiums.

Anyway, entertaining read about it: https://english.elpais.com/elpais/2011/11/01/inenglish/1320128447_850210.html

Patrick Viera is officially Crystal Palace's new manager. I wonder how he will do with such an old squad.
@stealthblue has there been any news yet on a return date for eriksen yet? Or if there even will be one?

He's going back to Milano in a few days and will meet with people from the club. Other than that we know nothing. But strongly doubt he will announce anything before the euros are over, or at least until Denmark are out.
There have been no leaks or indications in Danish media suggesting anything. So far Eriksen is recovering.

I pretty sure he is out til new year at least. Also he probably won't play in Italy again since a Doctor needs to sign him of in order for him to play and can be in serious trouble if anything happens to him. No player with heart device have received one in Italy. So if he plays again it will be in another league.

Semi finals. Holy shit Why? Doesn't make sense, considering we haven't had any creative player the whole tournament and Bořil is probably the worst back of the tournament

In Italy, players with defibs are not allowed to play, Inter has already been informed Eriksen isn't allowed to play for them again, so it begs the question why he's meeting people from the club, most likely looking for an exit that's gonna help him continue his career as a football player outside of Italy. He's allowed to play in the Netherlands for example, which makes a return to Ajax very possible. Also, in England he should be allowed to play, so maybe going back to Spurs might be the way.

Players are also used to this when the Champions league or Europa League is happening. Travelling doesn't have any affect. Also out of 4 teams in the semis 3 played the group at home without travelling. The fairest play possibru!

Most countries in the Euro have the same strength and quality of players so small things can decide a match. Traveling is not a small thing, its a big thing Not just that, but the commentators yesterday were saying that the Spanish team cannot train in Wembley due to Covid restrictions. They are only allowed to play the match in Wembley. They literally have to fly in on the afternoon of the match and their first touch of the field will be when warming up for the match... Presumably Italy's in the same boat, so it's "fair". But if Denmark is too, that most definitely isn't... Don't forget that the oinly fans allowed on the stadium are those in UK already. Which is really helpful for the fair claims sounds from the Britain. I mean suuuuuuuuuure, fair game. Czech team had 8k km travelled BEFORE THE BAKU GAME. (not that it would help to battle the Denmark , but don't talk about fairness when some travel thousands and others stay at home) Edit> I mean I get the COVID restrictions. But saying taht staying home isn't advantage sounds really stupid. Especially if fans are allowed and especially if the away fans are restricted. C'mon.

It is plain delusional to say traveling doesnt have any effect on performance. Sure you can see it with glasses made in UK if you prefer and everything is fine :D

Also it\'s not "an hour flight", you have to pack your stuff, travel to the airport, fly, travel to the hotel, unpack. In the meantime the English team had a nice massage and a dinner. Fair!

Common, the stress of packing a travel bag and setting in a bus to airport. Sorry it takes hours to deiced what underwear to pack in a travel bag for the next day, the steeeeers. I know that being professionals footballer isn't easy. But relaxing in a bus or hotel before a match is not gonna decide the match. Please have some kind of reality check, there is advantage but you make it sound like the Czech where forced to run to Buku. With about half the countries having homefield its not unlikely that many make it to semi finales, besides Denmark (that is ranked 10th in the world) is anybody surprised by England, Spain or Italy here. Not saying meaningless with homefield and travel about you make it sound like it's the underdogs all standing in the semi finals because the other teams have to travel. I am upset that you take away the effort put in by Denmark to just having played at homefield.

I am also surprised that the Spanish didn't get a latter staged game, guess this is the reason why.

60k allowed in stadium in a country try that mismanaged covid-19 so severely that outside fans, even if fully vaccinated and tested prior to departure, are bussed directly to the stadium and immediately back the airport after the match, won't be allowed to enter. Oh and 6k tickets offered for the fans of the opposing side - now graciously increased to 7.8k after it turned out that quite a few Danes live and work in England.
Here is hoping that 10% of the stadium is going to have a massive party

You cannot blame anyone other than UEFA for ticket issues, its the same either side with the rest being corporate, the same every even that is controlled by anyone other than the home or away club.
|
Well, I can understand why UEFA allocates tickets the way they do. With restrictions devoid of all logical thought it is remarkable that they have had to increase the Danish fraction in the first place.
EDIT: Point is: England was a shitty choice for host of the finals. Sure the pitch might be fine but if it ends up being Denmark vs Spain/Italy there will be few fans of either side present which kinda ruins the party. Should've chosen a country that coped better with covid.

These protocols you are moaning about are the exact same ones everyone has had to deal with this whole tournament and whole football season? The champions league final was moved from Turkey to Portugal and chelsea and city fans still were "told" to use chartered flights which were landing in Portugal on the day of the kick off?
edit: What? If this was a proper tournament instead of celebratory event, it would have been in one country only regardless? So having Denmark vs Italy in a final in Germany is not going to any different to what is happening now? Covid is producing these issues nothing else, every country is doing the same thing as well. What do you think is a fair place for these final few games to take place then?
You say a country that copped better as well which might be a fair argument if the vaccination program wasn't as such a success. If we didn't get this wage of Delat variant due to international travel! We would be in the best shape of everyone but now we are not, even though today our government says everything is fine and even with 50k cases a day as of July 19th we are free to live our lives without covid again? lol
|
But it is not the same. Chelsea and City fans were allowed in. Danes are literally not allowed despite the Danish equivalent of FA have offered to charter them in, bus them directly to and from the stadium, and only allow pfizer-vacvinated AND tested people along. Our foreign minister even reached out with the same conclusion. If Denmark reaches the final 1k fans will be allowed in under the above-mentioned protocol.
EDIT: I think it safe to say that you and I are not going to agree that the English vaccinationprogram was a succes. Sure lots of people got jabbed quickly with something. That something was suboptimal for many people and was only initiated due to the previous fuck-ups in covid-19 handling.
Also, Germany actually allows tourists, so yes, that would be a better place to host the finals from a pure fan perspective. I am unsure about their covid-19 handling (my medical network is largely Swedish, UK, USA) so I cant really comment on whether or not their level of restrictions are reasonable.
At the end of the day, it is what it is and it won't be changed. Hopefully we'll get an exciting and good match.
