Both games went: underdog takes 1-0 lead into favorites taking a 3-1 lead into underdogs scoring two late goals making it extra time?? I was looking forward to having both Italy vs Belgium and Spain vs France in one day of quarter finals, but also happy to see an upset. | ||

One could that's a deserved lose as deschamps did defensive remplacement but I rather say this was a deserved win by the swiss, as Trap yesterday, nice perseverance ! | ||

France's play was beautiful in the 80s, they were the little Brazil with the "magic square" but this is when we had the most cruel eliminations... Then we had the 98 win with a ugly yet effective football (the 00s play was way better but it wasn't the wc) which was decisive in term of approach (and with Vieira, Zidane, Djorkaev, it could have been sth else...). The trauma of Knysna which every foreigners underestimate reinforced this trope, we had to win and we don't care about the way, actually, caring about the way of winning is almost perceived as an insult to the competition by the media. That's the issue, they played on half the power because "hiding BOs" or w/e shit they were trying. Same for Spain, when they play fully they're fucking monstrous. Well, they're out, well deserved, maybe they find somebody less defensive as the manager. | ||

But France? No excuse. So much experience and talent in the side. Yet playing so conservatively. When Deschamps called up Benzema, alarm bells were already ringing. Benzema is a great player, of course. But the call-up is indicative of how Deschamps is lacking fresh ideas and being lazy in trusting a tried-and-tested formula. Just like Marcelo Lippi's second stint in Italy - bowing out in WC 2010 group stages (which contained a rather ez-man list: Paraguay, Slovakia and New Zealand) after winning WC 2006. | ||

And with other players I can just watch them when the regular season starts, but I don't envision Pogba showing off this ability consistently while playing for united. | ||

also i agree with drone that watching pogba with france is so good. the goal was the cherry on top and i wish he could play like this at united. at least now that portugal and france are both out fernandes and pogba get some much needed rest. | ||
