Ah yeah, good point. That could be a very likely thing if Portugal finishes with 4 points or so.

Hummels was embarassed by Mbappe and was/is the reason Germany have to play a back 3 in the first place cuz he has no pace. Ginter might be doing fine but Rudiger has not looked good at all. Sule starts for Bayern the best club in Germany...why he not getting a look in? Dortmund not been good defensively all season either lol

I decided to look at all the points of the third place finishers in all WCs and ECs since they started using 3 points for a win: European championships: 96: 4 groups, 4 4 4 4 for third place 2000: 4 groups, 4 3 3 3 for third place 04: 4 groups, 5 4 2 2 for third place 08: 4 groups, 3 3 2 1 for third place 12: 4 groups, 4 4 3 3 for third place 16: 6 groups, 4 4 3 3 3 3. two teams with neutral goal difference advanced. (portugal famously winning the championship despite not winning any group games) From these 6 championships there are 26 third place teams. They got 5 points once, 4 points 10 times, 3 points 11 times, 2 points thrice 1 point once. Adding more meat to it, I've looked at world cups too, since 94, when they started with 3 points for a win. 94: 6 groups, 6 6 4 4 3 2 for third place teams. 98: 8 groups, 4 2 2 4 3 3 3 3 for third place teams 02: 8 groups, 2 4 4 3 4 4 3 3 for third place teams 06: 8 groups, 4 3 3 3 3 2 2 1 for third place teams 10: 8 groups, 4 4 4 4 4 3 3 3 for third place teams 14: 8 groups, 4 4 3 3 3 3 3 2 for third place teams 18: 8 groups, 4 4 3 3 3 3 3 3 for third place teams Overall, 54 third place teams. 2 with 6 points, 18 with 4 points, 26 with 3 points, 7 with 2 points, 1 with Total from EC+WC combined: 6 points 2 times 5 points 1 time 4 points 28 times 3 points 37 times 2 points 10 times 1 point 2 times. 31 times 4+, 49 times 3- While not impossible, it's really unlikely that we see 5 third place teams with 4+ points, so 4 is almost certainly enough. Most likely, we see one or two teams advance with 3 points, too, and in that case, the goal difference ends up being crucial. Considering how 3 points is either three draws or two losses and one win, the goal difference will normally be neutral at best. I think Portugal is still likely to advance if they lose by 1 goal to France – 3 points and 5-5 GD is prolly enough.

I also don't see that many results of the supposed embarrassing. No reasonable person expects hummels to be as fast as mbappe. I don't know if any defender in this tournament is.

Also, an I the first to point out how dumb it is to have many teams play most games at home while others play many games away at the opponents home? Having one or two teams with home advantage is fair enough but this feels a little distorted.

The knockout games were Wembley for quite a few with Wembley getting the final and 1 semi final but the other semi final been moved there now as well. The teams in question aka Germany, Denmark, Russia, Spain, Italy and England were automatically assigned the home games and those stadiums attached to the groups in question. The knockout games do change that up though i believe. If Italy win group a and England win group b for example we go to Rome and Italy go to Wembley.
