dame cant control where he goes, so the favourite would be whoever can offer portland the most picks/best players, miami certainly will be the most desperate. not sure what stage portland is going to be in if dame leaves. you would think they would be tanking but then they just signed grant to a gazillion dollar contract and just being able to get into the play-ins (no matter who they get back in the deal) really isnt the way to go.

whoever gets dame is going to be like the suns of last year, where they had to gut their roster depth to get the trade done. and it'll just essentially be a waste of a year (lose in round 1 or round 2), and then hopefully year 2 they'll be able to rebuild some depth back.

this trade needed to happen way sooner, not even sure who is even left on the FA market.

I think whatever team that gets Dame (unless it is the Heat for their offer that is considered a lowball) will still be pretty mediocre. He plays the least important position, and his skillset isn't that rare at all in 2023. Its just super poor man's Steph. And Steph is great, but he needs at least 2 elite defenders on the court with him almost all the time.

Yup, agreed. And I feel like most people are missing the point when talking about why this team came up short.

Why do you think that?

From the look of it to me, Team USA played some awful defense, but also was really undersized against Germany. I mean Theis went absolutely off on us, and he's not a bad player but not the kind of guy I think would go for 27 and 7.

Rebounding was also an issue for pretty much the entire tournament.

Because both JJJ and Banchero are bigger than Theis. They are also bigger than Draymond and Adebayo, who won gold at the last Olympics. Last FIBA cup, team USA brought Lopez, Plumlee and one other center and they were all ineffective. The current team also had Kessler, but he was pretty much the 12th man.

JJJ didn't play well this game but he was plagued by foul trouble for most of the tournament. During the loss to Lithuania, the team was something like +15 when he played and -20 when he sat but he fouled out in 15 minutes. He's either effective and in foul trouble or passive and not in foul trouble.

The US bigs are just bad at rebounding. But the team was loaded with athletic wings and they should be chasing rebounds. The Warriors had some losses where they just get killed on the boards but they still ended up in the top half of the league in rebounding for most of their championship runs. The difference is that in some games, the wings help rebound. In other games, they try to leak out for fast breaks and don't help at all.

Isn't JJJ a foul machine in the NBA as well? I remember him being one of the only defenders I thought got a favorable whistle last year (along with trash dudes like CP3). Guy is talented but not refined.

a bunch of clips jammed together showing Anthony Edwards playing bad defense. At times his on ball defense is amazing though. I'd need to watch him play more to know if he is a bad defender or if he just stayed up until 8am partying the night before this game.

I'm originally from the Philippines. It's an English speaking, basketball crazy nation with a warm culture that's known for its hospitality. Wouldn't surprise me if they were enjoying the company of some Filipinas the night before haha

Yup, JJJ is definitely a foul machine in the NBA as well.

Why the fuck do these guys not box out? I literally asked myself that question several times during the game against Germany. It's the same in the NBA. I just don't understand why. My coach would destroy us if we played like that when I was growing up.

Canada wins in OT!
www.youtube.com

oops guys.. sry wrong clip. here it is.
www.youtube.com

players are complaining about the NBA schedule being too long and the games too tiring... let's make it sudden death OT. That will save the players knees, ankles and hips from a lot of banging and pounding.

prolly how the 95/96 Bulls went 72-10 while losing to the worst team in the NBA in Toronto. Also, hundreds of thousands of filipinos live in the Toronto area.

Well, Ingram, Banchero and JJJ ended up sick. Ingram was also sick the game before.

Now that I think about it, I think only Josh Hart was known as a good rebounder in the NBA. Put Westbrook on this team and he'll be their best rebounder. American players prize the Olympics way more and FIBA moving this and making it back to back is just going to hurt.

Anyone who knows much at all about it thinks it is horrible. To many games per weekend means injuries. Players moving around and no real structure means a lack of development regarding passing and spacing and defense.
