This Bulls team would be lucky to win a series in the East. True. First round exit seems to be their goal. At best, their ceiling would be sneaking into the conference semifinals in years when the east is especially shallow and only has 1-3 good teams.

The time was horrible though (4:30am) so I did not watch it live, and did not want to watch the defeat in replay. On the other end of the spectrum, the fact that the game was as close as it was considering the talent level France had was quite embarassing for Team USA. We won Gold sure, but it doesn't feel anywhere near as good as the last couple have.

Yeah but I was far more scared of Doncic than team USA, so it’s a pity to lose after winning the hardest battle (edit: at least in my mind beforehands, not in hindsight) :/. Still a great run, and I am happy USA got their shit together and managed to win, otherwise they really need to switch things up in NBA ruling to make it more competitive / less show oriented.

I don't even think Rubio can score 38 points in an NBA game even if you leave him open the entire game. This particular team just had a lot of challenges coming together. Some players played a lot of minutes during the NBA season and some made deep playoff runs. A lot of those players took time off afterwards and weren't in shape at the start of training camp. Bradley Beal, who was one of their better players, was put in covid protocols just before the start of the Olympics and had to miss it. They also had 3 players play in the NBA Finals and arrived in Tokyo the day of the their first game. One of the players, Jrue Holiday, was arguably the 2nd or 3rd best player on the team for the entire run. The main reason the team won was because they had Kevin Durant and no other country did. They dug themselves a double digit deficit early in almost every game and depended on him to carry them back.
