the NBA acts like its some kind of ultimate moral authority. Its laughable. What I learned is that if i have enough money i can shove and get in the face of an NBA player during a game and get almost no punishment.. so long as i have enough money power and influence.

If I'm just a regular guy I can get banned for life for dumping a bag of popcorn or yelling at James Dolan to "Sell The Team".

like the Golden State Warriors protected Kyle Lowry and Masai Ujiri? you mean like that?

The Rat thing... was really wild.. and a lot of fun.

Patrick Roy was asked if being showered by 1000 Rats after getting scored upon was frustrating....
he said "I was happy to live that experience ... once". Of course, Patrick Roy is a multiple Stanely Champ and a multiple Conn Smythe Trophy winner. He has the mental fortitude to deal with having crap thrown on him.

That first goal scored on Roy in Florida in that finals was so fucking hilarious....

The Rat clean up was sponsored by Orchid Pest Control. So much fun.

The NBA is taking itself too seriously.

You totally missed the mark on protected right. I was saying they can kick people out because it is there venue the same way a theater or a autonomy shop can. I'm not sure what you are getting at.

dude... you're taking my post too seriously. kinda like the NBA is taking itself too seriously.
Live Events are the place for silly stupid fun. Whether it is a musical event, esports event, party, and sporting event. The NBA can run around banning everyone for everything.. if they like. It just takes some of the fun out of being at a live event.

Reggie Bars (MLB), Rats (NHL), formation of the nWo at Bash at the Beach (WWE) etc.. lots of silly, stupid fun.
Chocolate Bars and plastic rats didn't hurt any one.. and everyone had a blast.

Patrick Roy was 100% amused by having 1000 plastic rats thrown at him.

It is not like teams want to kick people out, these are paying customers, in their most expensive seats likely spending a ton on booze and so on as well.

1. My first point is its almost always the clever or "hits home" comments that actually upset players. Baldness is one I've seen be a killshot on both NCAA and NBA players in many venues.

2. Racial slurs are almost never uttered by non-blacks at these arenas. I've been to enough at enough diversity of places that I would say it is approximately zero. And zero percent of comments that actually tick off players (which as I said above, is the cleverer ones that hit home). The only two exceptions (possibly) to this rule are Boston and Utah, of which I've never been, and never been to a game at a place similar.

3. Even though 2 is almost zero, the player almost always lies and says it was #2. To the extent it wasn't a lie, they are blaming a white customer for something a black person said nearby.

Why did the NHL ban them? Because it got out of hand. And as to the the wrasslin stuff, who cares its not related.

Patrick Roy and the Avalanche laughed at the Rats. Reggie Jackson and the New York Yankees laughed at the 1000s of "Reggie Bars" getting thrown on the playing surface. ( source: the Bronx Zoo by Golenbock and Lyle)

Jackson and Roy are both far more mentally tough than Westbrook though. Their performances in clutch situations highlight that. Both guys are multiple time finals MVPs who've won close to 10 championships between them. I think between them they've got 6 finals MVPs.

Reggie Jackson and Patrick Roy have a fully mature, adult reaction to the shenanigans in which fans get involved. They laugh at it. Westbrook comes off as adolescent and petty.

I do think they should fine and suspend any player that acts like its a big deal, and the same with any Skip Bayless, Steven A types white knighting for players. Its fucking popcorn, Westbrook's kids do worse to him every day. And verbal hecklers, come on, that's supposed to be part of the sport.

I don't think Westbrook should be fined. Let him do his thing. If Westbrook wants to run around acting like he is some kind of divine martyr.... let him have at it. In the past, I've worked with people who put their lives on the line every week. I have a hard time taking Westbrook very seriously.

do you know any nurses who've gotten seriously ill recently? i take the average ICU nurse far more seriously than i do this guy whining about getting hit with popcorn.

You put a hell of a lot more faith in anecdotal evidence than I do. I agree clever stuff hits home and is way more fun, people don't get banned from arenas for it.

And if you guys are worked up you should read more about the Utah fans, it was not the players that they said shit too, it was the players dad and GF. And the Morants didn't report them to security other fans who were offended did.

I do not think there is too many "innocent" people getting thrown out of arenas for being too witty. And even if there was there are such bigger injustices to worry about then whether or not someone can watch on TV or in person.

I don't really care, I just think from my EXP most pro athletes are crybabies.

But, I would support a rule of a yearlong suspension of any player who provably erroneously accused a person of a slur, with 50% of that players salary going to the accused, 50% to charity.

Most people are cry babies, it just depends what perspective you have to who is crying.

False accusations are a big deal and I'd agree if the audio says different than the player (most shit a player hears is going to get picked up by one of the many mics) or all the fans around say, he never said that, then sure.

But the Jazz fans this is not remotely close to what happened, they deserved it, other jazz fans reported them not players, and there hateful shit was not even at the players. I'd save the outrage for people who deserve it and situations that are actually outrageous.

Also, I'm sure skip and stephen A said stupid shit, I don't watch them for that reason and I won't because watching it supports them and keeps them doing there dumb shit. They just purposely say shit to get noticed, they want people mad at them because that helps their numbers, it is just about riling people up.

Like I said, never been to Utah or Boston, or any game with any such fans really. I've been all over the midwest and south, and almost every major city though, and its just not a thing. Whereas bad acting athletes is. I saw a guy get kicked out because he called Carlos Boozer "shoe polish".

Skip and Stepen A, I also dont watch, but they help drive things on all shows. I listen to pods like Lowe Post, and athlete ballwashing is now really the norm. If people really did "say shit to get noticed" the #1 ESPN personality would be the first guy who zigged hard anti-athlete. Just call them all crybabies. Run segment after segment of flopping with Colbert-esque incredulity reaction shots. Tell Lebron and Rodgers to just play. Call for real suspensions for flopping. Call for an NBA investigation into Lebron's fence. You'd double up every other studio show easily.

And this would be good for the league in the long run, because no one credibly claims these things are good for the game. If a flop was worth the same as a flagrant, and evaluated with as much scrutiny, people would stop. Good fences make good neighbors, that is the maxim sports leagues have forgotten.

LBJ looked amazing again last night. CP3 was injury prone during intense physical playoff games as a young player. So no one should be surprised he is playing hurt in the playoffs again.

If the Lakers hit open shots with any kind of regularity they'd be crushing the Suns.

Watching Raptors fans dunking on Kawhi is pretty hilarious. One of my customers is based in Toronto and I made an in person visit to them this week. Surprisingly, there was just as much talk about Kawhi and the Clippers losing as there was about the Toronto Maple Leafs playoff run.

At this point, I'd say Toronto is split 50/50 between NHL hockey and NBA basketball. The suburbs are still dominated by Leafs fans and the overall sport of hockey though. It has been a fascinating evolution seeing Toronto shift towards the Raptors and the NBA. Ujiri and Lewieke deserve a lot of credit. So does Silver and Stern. They've tweaked the NBA rule set so nicely over the years. Anyhow, whoever had the balls to hire Tim Lewieke deserves a tonne of credit.

I'm more a fan of great sports ops guys than I am any one team. In baseball, I'm an avid follower of Andrew Friedman. I'm not a Tampa Rays fan nor am I an LA Dodgers fan. I've become an avid follower of Ujiri. Where ever he goes... I'll cheer for that team.

It was really cool watching Ujiri and Lowry grow as leaders as Toronto was simultaneously embracing the NBA.

The Trae Young one is a fan from what looks like the second row spitting on him. I couldn't tell from watching the video if the spit hit him or not but a lady in the first row clearly reacted to the spit.

These Trae Young spit replay videos are so funny. They are grasping at any shred of evidence they can find. LOL.

New York Mets player Keith Hernandez was the victim of a horrible, terrible, horrible insult and then Hernandez spat upon the evil fan. These terrible interactions between fans and players are signalling the downfall of western civilization... right guys? LOL

Here is the best spit replay video of all time. The people pouring over the Trae Young spit videos were parodied very effectively on Seinfeld.

It turns out Keith Hernandez did not spit on the fan! There had to be a 2nd spitter!

For those unfamiliar with US history... the actors are parodying the zapruder film analysis of the JFK assassination and people who pour over replays of meaninglesss events like the Trae Young alleged spit incident.
