River dominated for 88 minutes, Gabriel Barbosa did nothing for the entirity of the match, but when the final was about to end in favor of River 1-0, here comes Gabriel Barbosa to score 2 goals (89 and 92) to win the Copa Libertadores
Oh, and he also got sent off minute 93, and he touched the cup I would not say that a team that stayed with the ball for only 39% of the time was dominating. River scored a goal early in a complete meltdown of Flamengo's defense, defended really well after that and in every chance they got, they shot on goal. And also wasted time, lots of time, in typical Argentinean football fashion. They had 2 good chances of scoring after the goal that were worked plays and not just a random shot from midfield. This Flamengo is the best offensive team in South America in the past 10, 15 years, at least. Kudos to River for holding them for 88 minutes but you need to do it for at least 90. They are not as good defensively, as we saw today. Blaming Pratto for the loss is pretty dumb. I know! Flamengo has like what 30 matches without losing? 13 points above n2 in Brasileirao and can win it if Palmeiras loses today right? All I'm saying is that River played one hell of a final and had everything set to win their 3rd Libertadores in like 5-6 years... Madness, up until those last few minutes, man that was great to watch. Flamengo made such great decisions, sold Vinicius & can't remember the other dude for like 90m, brought Gabriel Barbosa, Filipe Luis and Jorge Jesus Great investment that was fully worth it. You gotta give it to me that River was 2-3 steps above Flamengo, BUT THAT'S FOOTBALL, 2 PLAYS AND VOILA, YOUR SECOND LIBERTADORES ON THE SAME DAY 38 YEARS LATER!!! (both were 23 nov) I'm a gabigol fan
Yeah, Flamengo can also win the national championship today. 2 trophies in 1 weekend, lol.
Vinicius and Lucas Paqueta money were really important for Flamengo to build the current team but the club is not relying on transfer money anymore. It is probably going to be in the 2020 Deloitte Football Money League as one of the top 30, maybe top 20, teams in revenue in the world, even with Brazilian currency being shit like it is. Imagine this, if our currency were just half as crap, Flamengo would have more money than Juventus.
Gabriel is on loan until end of year, but Flamengo is trying to buy him from Inter, the offer is reported to be around 18 million euros.

I don't understand why they use VAR like this for offsides. Give the attacker the benefit of the doubt, it was always that way and always should be. VAR are acting like their job is to stop goals at all costs.

That Yanited game was nutty! Great goals in there too and fair result all round. Will that be enough to save Ole though?
Big Rumours that Silva of Everton has been sacked and Pellegrini is about to go as well.

So... We've got about 5 managers close to sacking in PL alone? Ole, Emery, Silva and Pellegrini at the very least, possibly a few more on the relegation threat teams.

Not yet but... https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/50562989 He probably will be sacked though after Leicester. edit: And then we have this....
Everton are 16th in the table and, after the trip to second-placed Leicester, face successive league games against Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.
Yeah, he's not surviving that, and I'd expect them to fall further after that gauntlet.
Strangely I'd think Ole would hold on....but with Poch available, who knows.

Ow, that's one nasty gauntlet for Everton. In a sense you want your dead-man-walking manager taking the worst blows and let the successor start with something less intimidating.

I do think there's some positive development with Ole, that and him playing youngsters week in and out, giving a bunch of talents a personal connection with United, that makes them want to play for the team more than for any other random top team, gives him a significant amount of leeway with the results. The 3-3 vs sheffield - while drawing sheffield away isn't a great result or whatever, was a very positive game, one that made him further from the sack, not closer to it.
