Spanish newspapers are talking about Quique Setien as replacement. He was very good with Las Palmas and good with Betis. But I don't know if he is prepared for a top club.

Overall, it just feels so rushed with Xavi and Valverde, it doesn't set up anyone else particularly well either at this point.

Setien is official. It's not a new idea, they thought about him earlier. He's the perfect coach for the football style so I'm happy for that. I just wonder if he'll have the authority to put some players in their place, especially with a ball-less direction that won't support him. Let's hope.

They just had to find one that get the socios satisfied until the next elections, and Setien + results, or Setien then Xavi is a pretty safe solution. That's actually a fair point Barca are not a normal club and will always have options jump out for them. But it still seems pretty poorly handled.

I think there's always a risk. Real did a bit similar shuffle and their last season was a total mess with La Liga nearly 20 points behind Barca and UCL ro16 finish. A giant club like Barca sure has some room to play around on these, but it can still cost them a lot of money and stature if they don't nail it properly. The post-Messi era is also approaching and you might want to sort out the managerial transition before the bigger transition needs to happen.

(to supply math - 8 goals in 360 minutes of CL. 3 goals in 34 minutes of bundesliga. 16 goals in 990 minutes of austrian league. 27 goals in 1384 minutes gives an average of one goal per 51 minutes. and the average is higher when you remove austrian league, so more goals the tougher the competition. I really dunno if I've seen a this 'complete' and natural goalscorer aged 19 before. )

One of Dortmund's issues has been that while their offense is good, they didn't really have a proper striker up front who could make use of chances they create. So their offense struggled to make up for all the presents their defense hands out (conceding 3 against Augsburg when you're trying to be a championship contender is proper memes). Haaland is a super talented striker and they're gonna feed him a lot of chances. Lad couldn't have gotten a much better club for his own development.
