Roy Keane is great every time he opens his mouth he insults someone
On the mood following last weekend's heavy loss to Everton:
"I don't believe a word Paul Pogba says, there's no meaning behind it.
"He's on about being a good team-mate, and if he wants that then you have got to run back.
"He said it got heated in the dressing room after the Everton game.
"I heard they've been throwing hair gel at each other."

That is the PFA team of the year which is voted for by players which makes sense, he has a big ego and is liked.

Sissoko, David Silva, even Wijnaldum and Eriksen have all been much better than Pogba but whatever.

Yeah you never what what the players are voting for exactly.
I hope Sterling gets player of the year. He's been absolutely sick all year. Maybe he's not got the pass or finish of some of City's players but he works so hard and gives everything, and he's stil improving.

Was confirmed yesterday that Van Dijk wins player of the year and Sterling got 2nd (Fans vote one).
I too think Sterling should win that, he is insane this season so much improvement just fantastic. I think he has a shot for Ballon d'or as long as he doesn't get screwed over and Messi doesn't win champs league. Cuz he will clean sweep England with all domestic trophies then has a huge chance to win an international title with England meaning he has eclipsed Messi and Ronaldo with trophies as well as having great Goals and Assists.

How has Sterling eclipsed Ronaldo with trophies?

That said, if it's about trophies, then assuming Ajax wins the league and the cup, and dreaming a bit about winning the CL... Tadic for balon d'or!

I think as individual Sterling shines greatly while Van Dijk is the embodiment of defensive improvement in Liverpool. At that point it becomes a thing of how much credit you give for Van Dijk for the collective effort of Liverpool's defense and all that subjective stuff. I don't mind too much either way, both have had great seasons and have so different roles that it becomes really hard to compare them in any meaningful way.
It really seems to be hard to name top midfielders. I think I saw some list with Henderson as the 3rd midfielder, which seems crazy even if you agree that he probably does way more than people give him credit. I guess it comes down to how mediocre/terrible seasons Arsenal, Chelsea, United and Spurs are having and how little starpower they offer right now.

Sterling has won Capital One Cup - FA Cup (soon) - Premier League (soon) = 3 trophies all clean sweep domestically in England on top of scoring many goals and have a G+A every 86 minutes in the process.
However if Messi wins Champs league he will take the Ballon D'or which i have no problem with, but if he doesn't and then Sterling wins the Nations League with England i can't see how he should not win that.
The Van Dijk argument is fine and valid, it is quite clear that since he came in Scouse were able to defend and that defensive effort has proven them to close the gap to city this much, however, they still have not won anything with him that is where i think Sterling is more valuable. However that might just be because a defender it is harder to shine than an offensive player scoring important goals. Maybe Scouse win champs league and than Van Dijk really is deservedly the best in England.
Tadic point is actually pretty interesting, i mean if he wins everything in Holland and on top of that wins the champions league then maybe he also will get a look in. The international tournament to tip players of the edge is a big thing for me though and that is where Sterling has the biggest chance, even with Copa America this summer i cannot see Messi and Argentina winning that and Tadic isn't involved in Nations League either.

Would be awesome if a defender wins some awards. Always underappreciated IMO

Yeah it is a long time since a defender won Ballon D'or or even the writers and players awards in England. Last time was John Terry in 2004/05. So maybe it is time we celebrate some defending again :D

I can't remember any goalies though, I guess De Gea could've had one if ManU won the PL or so.
Edit: All these awards are seriously confusing. Players', writers', all the weird Ballon d'or stuff and so on.

Lmao Sterling is great but he isn't anywhere near the numbers Messi and Ronaldo are putting up.

The Nation League isn't a trophy worth deciding a Ballon d'Or, as much as you're excited for your country to possibly win it... There's a Copa America this year too, and it's far more important as an international trophy.
I think Messi got this year's vote, he's been a few steps above everyone else (for 15 years now, but even more so this year :p). I love Sterling but come on. Only way he doesn't get it is by "disappointing" by failing a penalty against Liverpool and end up being eliminated, kinda like vs Chelsea a few years ago AND for someone else to shine like crazy for the remaining games.

Messi aint going to be near winning Copa America though that is if he even goes to play in the tourney, he probs retired from Argentina again.
The international competition to win is going to help push him over the edge which would make him stand out from Messi even more so. Win all domestic cups plus international tournament etc. It was proven last year that scoring the most goals in a season/year doesn't win you Ballon D'or / FIFA Player of year as Modric won it.

Sorry, but the Nation League doesn't mean s... Half of the teams didn't know how it worked, the other half didn't care (talking about group A). And now that England is qualified, it somehow became a major competition? It's only glorified friendlies, Sterling could score 5 goals a game, it wouldn't matter.
Messi has almost won the Ballon d'or already, just by being the best head and shoulders above anyone else. Nobody has really shined apart from him. Sterling is one of the few great players at City like Bernardo Silva or Aguero, this season but you can't say he's been the absolute best, even in his club.

He's been involved in more goals than anyone else in the EPL.

Yeah he is best offensive player in England right now, who are doing extremely well in European competitions as well. Add in the national team is also doing well internationally that is why i think he deserves to be in with a shout. Messi scores 50 goals every season, last season he scores similar to this season no? I mean Messi is god so is Ronaldo, but when Modric split them up last season you could argue others deserve to do that still as well :D
|
Messi vs Liverpool will prolly decide if he is going to win the ballon dor or not Barca have been quite lucky so far with their CL opponents
|
I've thought about it and I'm 100% sure Pogba's TOTY place should have gone to Joao Moutinho. That guy has been tearing it up at Wolves this year.
