Haller is a Frankfurt player who have been doing well and Savanier plays for "Nimes" in Ligue 1 which i never even heard of as a club before xD These all make up the top 10 rated players in the world. How in the world is Ter Stegen NOT no #1 ? Instant dismissal right there

I agree with the 8-2 or 7-3. Messi had 2 seasons in which he was not so awesome as usual (When he was vomiting with Tata Martino)

How idiot Low plays Neuer over him is beyond fathomable (national team wise)

I just think that you (Pande) don't watch enough Liga games. When you watch highlights, you don't see how much Messi contributes to his team's success. I love Suarez, but his young self would have 50% more goals at least with how many genius assists he gets from Messi. Messi finds passes no one else sees, his long balls to Alba that often lead to an assist are insane. Teams that face him go beyond the normal measures to stop his freekicks (one guy laying down below the wall, one guy running back to the post, who knows what's next) yet he still scores them. He's the one that attempts the most dribbles in the world and the one with the highest success rate. He leads goals AND assists rankings almost every season.
Yes, stats don't tell us everything. But the more advanced the stats tech gets (like with expected goals, expected assists, etc.), the more people will see that he's 2-3 steps above Ronaldo. He is half a point above everyone in the team of the year you sent...
And if you did watch Liga games regularly, you would know that saying things like "stats shouldn't matter too much" is pretty much helping to confirm that Messi is the best every year, given the joy he brings even to the non-Barça fans, and the amount of trophy he won with his team.

Sterling's the EPL player of the year for me, but yeah, Messi is the king. Somehow he's the best player in the world and everyone knows it and yet he's still underrated lol.
|
I hope Liverpool win every game left. If that's not enough, hats off to City.

Nothing to do with watching La Liga games or not though, to be best player in the world you have to be king outside of your domestic league as well, if no one is king outside of their domestic leagues because you get say Spurs winning champs league, Barca and City win domestic trebles, then you have to add in other metrics, like international scene. That is all, Messi in La Liga is by far the best player, but Sterling is the best attacking player in the premier league.
Ratings are bad metric to judge people by when said ratings are "made up" per se and formula's just not right. Messi is the best scoring footballer in the world this season that is true but he for me has to win the champions league to take that title of worlds best again. Even though this season he pretty much has carried Barcelona way more than usual as they have been getting worst and worst all round the pitch.

Everyone that watches Messi every week knows he is the best player with no discussion.

This sentence alone is reason enough to stop any discussion about quality of player with you. Sorry Pandemona, you're a great fan, but you're not going to persuade anyone when every point is filled with league or country bias and contradictions. And certainly no-one will take you serious if you keep calling Nations League a real tournament or when you call Sterling best in the world.
Barcelona is comfortably getting another La Liga title, are in the finals of the Copa (eliminating Real Madrid on the way there) and is in the semi-finals of the Champions League with good enough chances to win it all with Messi being the biggest factor of that success.
How are they getting worse and worse exactly?
Sterling got eliminated in the quarter final of the CL btw. To Tottenham. Who got absolutely schooled by Barça (i.e. Messi) in group stages when it mattered.
And yeah, what Haitike says. He's just getting better and better.

He's top scorer in the CL with goals against Tottenham, in ro16 and in QF. Also semi final of the CL >>>>>> winning the Nations League x)

Messi and Ronaldo are world class and unbelievable players, but that doesn't mean they have to win every award going....I also said Messi should win UNLESS, Sterling were to go on and win nations league with England and Barca fail in the champions league again. Winning 4 trophies domestically PLUS an international title whether it means nothing to you or not does seem rather amazing feat. Messi has set his own individual bar which can only be eclipsed each season with doing things like carrying Barca to European glory or Argentina to glory which has not done this year (yet). If he does then he will be winning those titles easy, but due to scoring 40 goals every season it gets downplayed which isn't his fault.
When a player like Salah went from scoring 15 goals to 45 the world took note and he nearly won the FIFA best player award (the new Ballon d'or?) whilst winning absolutely fuck all and scoring less than Messi and the same as Ronaldo. That like i said is due to Messi and Ronaldo setting the bar so very high and when they score 40-50 goals a season people do not even blink.
For once i hope Barca win, that way the award will go to Messi and i don't have to suffer a Spurs or Liverpool champions league win, then the debate for this years best player is settled easily.

why should Sterling win a best player award just because his team won a lot? it's not representative of his ability, this is a team game
Messi does more high quality actions in games than anyone else, by far. he is just held to a completely different standard.

Last time was Fabio Cannavaro in 2006 or wait was that world player or both. same difference.

Yeah that was my fault, i meant to break that sentence up by saying JT won as a defender last time the FWA/PFA award which is just from England. Ballon d'or was of course Mr Cannavaro as you rightfully said.

This year's top 4 is a gentlemen's club, each club gives a chance for another club to catch up.

Indeed, Yanited or Chelsea just got handed another big lifeline. Win for either side and they are probably "favorites". Could be even more so because Arsenal play away to Leicester before the Chelsea/Yanited game kick off.

Also Cannavaro winning it was marketing nonsense. He wasn't even Italy's best CB for me, it was Nesta. Buffon also could have won it, but I have no idea how he did that year tbh.
