I know he was a fantastic player, i remember Euro 2008 specifically when he was a boss for Croatia, don't know him mangerially, other than the famous falling out with Croatian FA

Nice draw for Marseille, bad draw for Madrid, perfect. Come on Heynckes, purge the world from evil one last time! And then let Liverpool win it. Could Salah be Ballon d'Or if that happened? I know Egypt doesn't have much chance in the world cup, but I don't see Argentina or Portugal going too far (maybe Argentina with some luck) either. And if a team lilke Germany or Spain wins, there's no real superstar to get all the votes.

Well i highly doubt Salah can even get anything other than 3rd at best even with a champs league win. He has scored less goals than both Messi and Ronlado and ok if Ronaldo doesn't win champs league or world cup you would argue Messi will probably get Ballon d'Or due to actually winning the league. It is most likely going to see Salah score 40 goals this season for Liverpool and end the season with 0 trophies.

It's more they trialed it and they didn't get the calls right. So the clubs dont have faith in it being used correctly so it's just silly. Another year of trials in cup games would be best suited.

Celebrations go in so long that they should be able to get it in before the kickoff naturally occurs. That should be the rule anyways.

Main criticism seems to be

- takes 5 minutes for everything -> Agreed, from what I've seen in PL usage the referee always looks at it himself instead of just if it is a judgment call, needs much improvement
- it gets stuff wrong -> so we would rather not correct any call because occasionally there could be an error?
- not showing replays in stadium -> ofc they can't it would make everything worse
and best of all
- can't celebrate goals anymore, because they always get overturned -> apparently offside has never been a thing and 0.3 VAR interventions ruin every single one of the 2.7 goals

Seriously the biggest issue of VAR is the horrible media coverage it gets. Recent Gladbach game had following sequences, all goals home team

- goal 1 questionable offside, was confirmed as onside by VAR during celebration without notice in the broadcast
- goal 2 offside, was checked then overturned during celebration
- goal 3 foul/offside, was checked during celebration with short break before kickoff and not overturned

And the commentator first bitched that there was a noticeable break in play when 3rd goal was confirmed and then proceeded to complain why there was no break when the 1st goal was checked.

VAR got three crucial calls right with a minimal delay in the game and apparently that still is not good enough.
I more and more get the feeling that fans/viewers and especially journalists just don't want to have it in the game and are desperately making up reasons why it shouldn't be used, despite every single metric saying that it is a complete and utter success.

Less than 1 minute delay per game, 63 correct interventions vs. 10 errors with several being formally wrong usage early in the season and the only error in the 2nd half of season being an inconclusive offside goal, because those wont happen without VAR apparently

Good post Sneirac, pretty much agree with everything.
Main "problem" with VAR so far is that VAR mistakes are commentated much more critically than standard ones. Which actually just shows that VAR has raised the bar and that is a good thing for football justice. The game is still random enough as it is.
