i have no desire to see the champions of my era compete any longer. Seeing SlowJ out there on Sunday night only solidified my position lol. If they have to fight, old legend matches like the one mentioned in the thread might be some what interesting, I just don't want to see old dudes look like shit vs the next generation lol.
I wouldn't mind seeing GSP coming back since his legacy is pretty much cemented anyways. But hes not signed with WME so who knows if that will ever happen lol.

Big boxing fan here , and you are wrong , the different boxing orgs all have the same fighters pool (more or less as some orgs are stronger at Japan and some are stronger in Mexico for example ) but overall they all use the same fighters to generate the biggest money they can per fight , UFC does NOT share their fighters so it is a valid comparison , the biggest thing that is making the UFC such a better product is the matchmaking , boxing fans (i will know) are suffering from today matchmaking , example at hand : Canelo vs GGG should have been made ages ago , Frampton vs Rigo , Brook vs Thurman and the list goes on and on , in today landscape having 1 belt that everyone wants is better then the dozens of crappy belts going around which once a guy takes it he sits on it and try to maxmize his winning while avoiding other world champs saying he is already the champ, Example : Billy joe saunders the MW "champion". The #1 selling point for me watching UFC is the matchmaking which makes a lot of fights competitive which for me in a sport is the most important aspect a sport when i know the winners in 80% of the fights is boring.

seeing as UFC is not sharing then we'd need to include every belt by every MMA org to get an apples to apples comparison.

yep, and when the UFC puts Lesnar into a fight knowing he is on steroids it hurts the product and makes it more like boxing.
the UFC is still way better than boxing. However, its recent moves in matchmaking and new belt creation are boxing-like moves. The sorts of moves that facilitated the decline of Boxing. In this aspect i pretty much subscribe to Chuck Mindenhall's perspective on the UFC's recent moves.
The UFC did a much better job bringing the 115 lb belt into existence. Their recent belt creation moves with the 145 lb belt were poor. Holm and whatsherface are still ranked 135 lb fighters.
I don't see any way that White and the Fertittas would have NOT let Lesnar go and fight on that card. In the middle of their 4-billion dollar negotiation and what was supposed to be the biggest PPV until that day? Having to cancel that fight would have been something they did not want to deal with after already having the Bones Jones thing. They wanted to get the most money they could, then would deal with the consequences later.
Which is why I don't think Lesnar is a great example. It was allowed during a time which may not really be representative of what they are trying to do in the future or their new philosophy or w/e. But there have definitely been some head-scratching moves recently and regardless of the reasons, that was one of them.

put in this context the reasoning behind making sure Lesnar fights is a perfect example of short term money-making being made a higher priority over the sport.
