Espanyol on the other hand... would probably win Cataliga(TM) every year, with the irony of that happening with their name.

But i'll happily open this discuss outside of football thread as this has no place in the football world. As blatter our glorious leader says "there is no place for politics in football, football will always be free of politics" Godwarth gave some good insight on the state of matters in the page 309 of the "European politico-economics QA mega thread" thread. I also just posted some stuff related to the topic in the same thread. Feel free to read them ![]()

Its a very major bargaining chip for the center. As much as the club might try or want to stay out of it + Show Spoiler + which is more of an overt presentation of neutrality, I think the internals at the club feel quite strongly in favor of it. The club has been a big symbol of Catalan identity histrionically, especially when Spain was under fascist rulers. The problem is the Barcelona today is more than just that. It is a global team and brand and many people (just like at other clubs) feel just as close to it as any Catalan, but conversely have no interest or association with Catalan Nationalism and its those people that have brought the club to where its at. Most teams have great local fans, there is nothing unique about that.

only premier league, and I'm only counting matches he started (mostly if rooney has been fit he has played at least close to 90 minute matches, and I don't care enough to check minutes played etc) so far this season he has 1 goal 0 assist in 6 matches 2014/2015 he had 12/5 in 33 matches 2013/2014 he had 17/10 in 27 matches 2012/2013 he had 12/10 in 22 matches 2011/2012 he had 27/5 in 32 matches 2010/2011 he had 11/11 in 25 matches 2009/2010 he had 26/3 in 32 matches 2008/2009 he had 12/7 in 25 matches 2007/2008 he had 12/11 in 25 matches 2006/2007 he had 14/11 in 33 matches from this we can clearly see that after he 'turned into an adult player', regardless of whether he's been more of a full blown striker or a generic attacking player, he was contributing with about 1 goal/assist per match (exactly that for three seasons in a row, somehow). But we can also see that since Van Gaal entered, this has dropped to less than half of that. Whether his form dropping or Van Gaal playing him differently is the reason, I dunno.

And they show that now, he either doesn't excel anymore, or he has a significantly more defensive role. I don't have access to opta stats or tackles/passing per game or 'defenders drawn out of position' per game or anything like that, so I can't tell you. But judging by goal/assist, rooney is only about half as efficient this+last season as he was the 8 seasons prior.

rooney is however an extremely good all round player. theres literally nothing he is bad at and i think this is something van gaal hasnt fully come to understand yet. fergie made players look world class, rooney included, because he knew how to utilise his players. van gaal hasnt quite figured some of his current players out yet, which is probably why rooney seems to be out of form

Seems like even voters doesn't take it too seriously when players like Okazaki, Luongo, Atsu, Bony, dos Santos, Vargas or Ospina get votes while Silva, pique, Busquets, Marchisio, Buffon, Verratti, Bonucci or Boateng not.

5 seasons in a row 25 goals or more, 13-14 first time below 30 goals in a season since 2010 etc. 104 goals in 138 games for Napoli is an insane record :3 64 in 106 atm for PSG Why is it only me who likes him ![]()
