Also, the NCCA football thing is incredibly damaging to a number of schools. The top tier teams make money yes, but the overwhelming majority do not. In many cases the dreams of athletic directors and alumni boosters have resulted in numerous schools spending far more than they can afford chasing unicorns, which has resulted in major debt, tuition increases, and budget cuts elsewhere. And then there's all the other issues with the actual games.

Both in franchise value, and in any number of cross-promotional perks (Cavs & Quicken loans etc). Anyone who believes the league's line about losing money for even one second needs to stop being so naive. Also, the NCCA football thing is incredibly damaging to a number of schools. A better example might be college baseball or soccer. It's less feasible because even with $0 in direct labor costs, you don't have the revenue streams. Expanding this to the NBA, if your goal is a competitively balanced (so many people love this idea) and a economically honest league, you should not tender a franchise to a city that can not a) establish a local fan base, b) realistically compete and c) subsist without revenue sharing. Competitive balance is not feasible without a salary cap. What I was trying to say is that the NBA can still have 30 profitable teams without competitive balance. It has the revenue streams for it. Contraction is not the answer because everything is comparative. Great teams can't exist without shitty teams. They have to beat somebody. If everything is perfectly balanced, every team would be mediocre. The history of the NBA shows that people tune in when there are great teams they can cheer for or against. But somebody has to do the losing to the great teams and you can't just contract those teams.

this cavs team is in a bit of trouble if they are having problem with low tier teams. the 2010 miami comparison people made is way too crude. that team had a much higher net point differential from the get go and had the defensive personnel even though they had no rim protection either. i'm not seeing irving and waiters replicating the heat's fast trapping defense. they don't have a chris bosh and lebron is older.

Still don't know why Utah didn't foul Melo instead of giving him a chance to tie the game with a three, but meh.

If only I could believe that. Apparently he was playing sick tonight, but that was still a dreadful performance. He's just making it easier for ESPN to continue bashing on him.
