Jorge Jesus has turned into Judas, as he left Benfica after 6 years at the helm where he won 3 championships, to join Lisbon rivals Sporting. Apparently, him and his dying father are both former Sporting players and Sportinguistas at heart. Meanwhile, Sporting's president sacked Marco Silva who had a pretty good performance on the job after a year of bickering between manager and President. Sporting is firing under "just cause" claiming, among other imbecilities, that Marco Silva didn't wear the Sporting suit to one of the away cup games. Marco Silva contests and is owed over 2M. The move is baffling to a lot of people given that Sporting has a football budget of around 20-25M€ py, and is hiring a coach for 3M a year + bonuses that could make it go up to 6M€/y. Benfica's budget is 3 times larger. Media has claimed that this move is sponsored by Angolan money but Sporting has denied outside involvement. They apparently are now also targeting Maxi Pereira (end of contract with Benfica), Fabio Coentrão (left Benfica for Real Madrid) and Cardozo (left Benfica for Trabzonspor). Benfica fans are riled up and upset that Rui Vitória, an unproven coach but with a track record of betting on youth (which is in line with the wishes of Benfica's president), is set to replace him. 95% of Benfica fans instead want Benfica to hire Marco Silva, the guy who was sacked by Sporting, who is apparently a Benfica fan, young, charismatic and has a solid track record in his young career. In essence, this story has all the elements of a truly great telenovela. Next season is going to be AWESOME!! EDIT: Pandemona, Jesus has a bad record in the Champions League but he has been impressive domestically. During his tenure a lot of players materialized into stars, including Nemanja Matic.

Also she has been one of the top models for many years, she doesn't even need money 0.O EDIT: Pandemona, Jesus has a bad record in the Champions League but he has been impressive domestically. During his tenure a lot of players materialized into stars, including Nemanja Matic. But he isn't even nothing special manager. You say he brought people into stars and list those names, but im pretty sure someone else would have done a similar thing. Remember last 2012-13 he took that team of Matic and co to losing the league on final day, losing another european cup final for Benfica and going out on penalties in the domestic cup. Last season they won the league easily id admit but then again another cup final loss after a terrible semi final in terms of conduct. They did clean up domestically though. Then this season won cup and league and failed in Europe. When Benfica and Porto were successful imo was when they were reaching the knock out stages of the champions league regularly and giving good games to Man Utd / Chelsea to name a few.

EDIT: Going back in time made me giggle. In the space of a couple of months we sent away Jupp Heynckes and José Mourinho. Not good enough for Benfica, nope.

Just to add a bit on the story given above, if Benfica's president, Vieira, didn't keep a hold on Jesus two years ago, after losing the league in stupid ways two years in a row, JJ wouldn't have went on to reach two EL finals in a row and win the league twice in a row. JJ was under fire coming from everywhere, benfiquistas and even the higher-ups at Benfica, but LFV didn't give a fuck, believed in him, and proposed a contract extension until this year. Many feel that Jesus is biting the hand that fed him, especially since there are many rumors that JJ straight up ignored our president's tries for negociation, going as far as ignoring a ringing phone all day, when he had everything settled with Sporting. If that's not some son-of-a-bitchness, I don't know what is.

Pandemona, Jesus is a really good coach. He has a huge problem which is the fact the he is stubborn as hell. And this little fact make him do big mistakes in international matches. And when you say that a player would always develop well under any coach I don't think that's entirely true. Just see the list of players that came out from Benfica on the last 6 years (Jesus era). It can't be a coincidence David Luiz; Ramires; Matic; Coentrão; Javi Garcia, Witsel, Enzo Perez, André Gomes, Markovic, Di Maria, Rodrigo, Cardozo, Garay, Oblak; Siqueira. This is only including the players who left, because we still have some almost world class player (IMO) in Maxi Pereira, Gaitan, Salvio and probably Samaris. With that said, we are just a bit in shock on how Sporting has the cash to pay for Jesus (allegedly 5M signature bonus and up to 6M/year with bonus). And I would love if Marco Silva (sportings coach) come to Benfica. It would be an epic switcheroo ![]()

But i dont see it at that level, deep down do Benfica fans really care? You lose a manager so what, you still have the record amount of league titles and domestic cup wins, that won't be taken away for a while. Now you get a new manager to come in who i guess for the sake of sanity will not be the ex sporting guy lol. Then you can move forward, the only winners from this i see so far is Porto fans due to their manager imo is going to do real big things next season.

So when a Coach (Jorge Jesus) stay for 6 seasons in a club he kinda turns into an icon for the club. He's the face of the club on that last seasons (for the good and the bad). And from those players only David Luiz and Ramires are Brazilian (And Siqueira but he was in Granada for some seasons). And i'd love to have Marco Silva as a coach! It would be a really fun season to watch ![]() But the coach i wanted for my club is a more controversial option. Vitor Pereira, currently on Olympiakos.

I also just checked cuz I wanted to see how Portugal's domestic league looked historically, and wow, that is one dominant trio right there.. Only two years since 1935 (which seems like the first year) have you had a non porto-sporting-benfica winner. (Boavista in 2001 and Belenenses in 1946. ) But even more 'statistically shocking', only 9 times in the same period of time have you even seen a different runner up. I guess rangers-celtic have been dominant in an equally impressive fashion, but still.. pretty crazy to have three teams completely dominate a league for 80 years..
