Although some of his stuff, especially punting you don't want to do in Roto (the most difficult format to win). Aside from what Xyric wrote some stuff I would add: 1.) Since it is ESPN, go to the mock draft lobby and play around with picks. Put the most similar players on the draft list when it starts (lower right box) so you don't panic when you miss out on a pick. 2.) After your first say 6 rounds, you should be drafting for upside/snatching undervalued players. This is especially true since you have the 11th pick. Your first 2 picks should be elite in some categories that you can easily catch up on later. An example would be a Love/Ibaka combination. This lets you start well in every category except assists and steals. Dominance in blocks, rebounds, and FG%? check. This is important especially since a few late rounders are going to help you compete in blocks this year (Sanders, Noel, Dieng are the prime targets). 3.)Bledsoe is a monster, Klay Thompson is not. In Roto this is especially true - look for specialists like Klay to fill holes (points, 3s). Since this is a draft, you would pick Klay ONLY if you knew Bledsoe would still be available later. If this league has any good players this might not work. However like I said Klay isn't a monster and is actually overrated in both fantasy and real life. Get Kyle Korver late in the draft and enjoy the steal. 4.) If you're taking rookies, pick the ones that will get heavy minutes. Beware though that rookie guards usually have terrible FG%. But since you might be drafting FG% anchors (Blake, Ibaka, Bosh, Horford) you could take a gamble on them. In fact this is just general end of draft advice - take chances on any who will get heavy minutes. Your first 6-8 picks already set your team up to win and as an 11th pick in draft you need to take chances. 5.) Last point and this is why you should practice with mock drafts. When in the app, go to the projected stats tab and look at how people's Roto projections look. This is SUPER important because sometimes there may be a run on certain stats that you may miss out on. If everyone is going after PGs and you have none it makes no sense to pick a non-assist/steals contributor next. You may fall too low in the category which is death in Roto. This should probably be point #1 because it is the biggest mistake most people make in drafts - not looking at the projected points to get a sense of where they are in the league.

One thing that anyone who tries a punt strategy has to keep in mind is that the goal isn't to be as terrible in the punted category(ies) as possible, but to win as many of the other categories as possible by shifting your individual team's rankings such that you're targeting players differently from everyone else to gain an advantage. There have been multiple occasions where I utilized a punt draft strategy and ended up not at the bottom of the league in that category. It wasn't intended, but can happen at times.

It's less effective in casual leagues where the margin of error is greater and there are a few people who give up at some point during the season when they fall behind. Also, the TO category also becomes less important in casual leagues as you can have a hard time competing in that category with people who stop trying and fall far short of maxing out their games played. Agreed. I'm assuming it's a casual league where punting strats are just going to get you killed when people stop playing. It's much more fun (ie no draft the best player available boredom) in competitive leagues especially since other people might do punt strategies also. Roto Auction format is the craziest thing I've ever seen with good fantasy players. So many swings in value.
