Still, if Montreal wanted long term and Subban wanted long term getting to these dollar figures shouldn't have taken so long. Unless I miss read Subban wanting long term weeks ago. Just seems odd that there was a 3million+ gap in salary talks between the two a few days ago to a contact 500k over the players asking price

Just seems odd that there was a 3million+ gap in salary talks between the two a few days ago to a contact 500k over the players asking price The 3 million difference was just for arbitration, so 1) both sides high ball and low balls their 'offers' and more importantly 2) it's just what they are offering for the short term. Not long term. I'm assuming for long term Subban would have been asking upwards of 10-12 million for the last few years of the 7-8 year contract. The large difference in those offers was only due to it being what they wanted in the short term(Before cap is raised again) and them both low balling and high balling each other in the process. 9 million a year for the first two maybe three years of this deal might be a touch steep but by the 6th-7th-8th year it will be a steal compared to other top d-men at the time. when Doughty, Pietrangelo and other top defense men negotiate their contract in the 'new cap era' I expect they will all get higher or at least similar contracts.

long story short, yes, there is every reason to expect the cap to continue to rise each year as it has.

Perhaps we should just host every game outside at a baseball/football stadium, no? ;o

Would you guys be annoyed if any team decided to tank for McDavid next season? I think the teams need to find some other way to appeal to the audiences, a lot of people show up for soccer games now. Hockey needs a boost like the world cup did for MLS.

So now that Subban is signed and most teams are pretty much set for the season we are going to have a long layoff between anything relevant happening. I hate August...
