The first round was very tight, but it also meant almost every game ended in a foul fest. After all's said and done, Indiana still (probably) going to the ECFs. Hilarious.

I'm actually kinda intrigued to see Indiana vs Miami now. Might not be as big of a beat down as previously thought.

Also: spurs looking nigh unbeatable. Thank you to the Mavs for whatever you ignited in the Spurs (and more importantly, the Spurs bench)

Which they haven't yet, or all this playoffs, or since the All-Star break really. On May 12 2014 12:54 darthfoley wrote: Also: spurs looking nigh unbeatable. OKC was absolutely cruising until the Clips (Collison in particular) got a bit hot. They do the same old thing where they panic and devolve into Durant/WB iso mode. Is the problem with Brooks or WB/Durant? The former is either calling bad plays to close games or the latter simply have no faith in their team mates in the clutch. The Clips have to play better D if they want to win this series. They can't rely on just getting hot constantly. OKC slacked off a bit today and it hurt them. edit: both teams showing some bad flaws too IMO. OKC is lacking depth--they need a more reliable third option. Ibaka is still too streaky and limited with his offence. They could really use a Klay Thompson type guy right now. The Clips still look a bit soft to me. Chris Paul is a douche but has the heart of a lion. I'm not sure he has the toughness around him though that you need this time of year. Too much flash and not enough grind for me. I expect OKC to win this in six but who knows? They really should be on match point now but shit happens.

OKC went full clogged toilet offense at the end there. I still think Brooks is the biggest problem. They've called some really, really shitty plays coming out of timeouts. That's on the coach and reflects on the coach's playcalling ability and gameday ability. OKC seems to be the only team in the entire playoffs (including already eliminated teams) that is unable to execute a simple backdoor play coming out of a timeout. Clippers seem really undersized on perimeter D. Paul, Collison, Reddick and Crawford are either short, skinny or both. Paul is really feisty but their size just presents a mismatch for the other team.

OKC definitely seems to have more offensive potential because there are portions of games where the ball is moving beautifully and they appear unstoppable. That makes the portions of the game that devolve into ISO-Westbrook/Durant so frustrating, similar to how GS would devolve into ISOs as well despite having the potential to have a free-flowing offense. In that facet, the Clippers have an advantage on offense as they clearly have good offensive coaches and stars who are more than happy to involve their teammates all game.

The only reliable rim protection they have is DJ, and their PGs and SGs get abused by the many bigger guards out there (i.e. Klay and Westbrook). I was very impressed with how CP3 has repeatedly stepped up on defense in the playoffs to guard bigger players, and he'll have to continue to do so to give them a shot. Like I said months ago, a huge problem for the Clippers is also they lack a 3rd big (whenever Big Baby comes on the court, they immediately go in a hole). It's pretty much been the Chris Paul show (he has been so amazing, best player in the series) and Blake getting what he can, followed by DJ being very good. Unfortunately, as you said the perimeter defense is horrid. Chris Paul can't guard WB, play 43 minutes and run the offense (they fall apart without him) so Doc has him guarding...Durant? To put in perspective how bad this is, CP3 should be guarding the least threatening wing player (Sefolosha) but the rotation is so junked he's guarding Durant. Even playing against bigger guards, OKC isn't killing them with postups as much as it's blow bys on the wing which shouldn't be happening so repeatedly. PnR defense of Crawford and Collison is a nightmare. Redick is slow now too. Related to the above, I think Westbrook has been absolutely lights out this series. Outside of Paul he's been the best player through 4 games and it isn't all his fault the offense has grounded. Brooks is at fault because the plays and most importantly positioning has sucked balls. Durant gets the most blame though - why is he posting CP3 up in the same position when he could just face up and shoot over him immediately, or establish position very deep in the paint? His dribble may be suspect but he's to blame when he can't establish space before catching the ball. Westbrook of course gets the blame here, but watching that game he did exactly what he should've - Durant struggles so WB just blows by his crap defender for layups with DJ out of the game. Not sustainable but outside of more motion in the offense it's all you could hope for. Durant was gumming up the offense.
