But Cesc is having his best season so far, he should be a starter. I'm with Rebs on this one. I can't see Tata giving Busquets a wake up call, because he has been the best Barça midfielder this year. And it's not really close to me. This is standard rotations. And very shitty rotations tbh... If he wants to rest them, rest them wednesday against la Real where the game is useless, not against Sevilla when you can lose la Liga... The score is 1-4 but it's more Sevilla's fault than Barça's merit... 1-0 and Sevilla hit the post, and continue to play risky football when they should have put the bus. The goal from Barça, offside or not, isn't the kind of goal Barça should be scoring to save their skin. And the 1-2 comes from a counter attack because Sevilla never stopped attacking. Barça's level was awful today, I just cannot see what Tata brought to the team tactically speaking. His rotations? It feels more like he's saying "come on Sergio/Lionel/Andres, please take a break, please please you will be tired if you don't!" than a real beneficial turnover (giving youngster the chance to shine? Poor Bartra has been the best CB this season and he hasn't participated in any important game. Tello? Other kids from la Cantera? Where is the Barça model?).
well to be fair 11 of the 13 that played the game were la Cantera..
I dont think you can blame Sevilla for not parking the bus. Its not like they were super gung ho, they only started chasing the game when they went down. Prior to that they were pressing super effectively and picking their chances to throw people forward, counters and set pieces pretty much.
Off the post, Rakitic missed a sitter, offside goal, the usual Valdes special. The universe and the officials (as sad as it is to admit it) were conspiring to keep Barca in the game.
The 4-1 was just fluff and hardly shows how well Sevilla played. Any team chasing the game against Barca is going to get a bad scoreline.
They played really well and had they were scandalously unlucky. If you count the game before Barca's third goal Sevilla was the better team regardless of how you slice it. Thats a good 60 odd mins of play

What's wrong with that? They are favored to lose the game anyway. Better to go down fighting than that it is to turtle and wait for Barca to stick their dick into your ass. Especially in front of your home fans.

Well this isn't the same Barça anymore, they are not as good at breaking defenses as they were 2 or 3 years ago. That + the very heavy rain... Barcelona scored from a free kick and a 3 vs 3 counter attack, this second situation should never happen. I'm not blaming Sevilla for trying to win. I hate teams that park the bus, but it's the most effective way to steal points against Barcelona.
My point here was more to criticize Barcelona for their lack of answer to facing a high intensity team like Atletico/Valencia/Sevilla... They were dominated by these 3 teams, something that never happened in the last years. They were lucky to have Valdés and favorable decisions (penalty against Valencia, no red card + penalty vs Real Sociedad, offside vs Sevilla). Is it going to be the same against City? We're already lucky that Aguero and Fernandinho won't be there, I wouldn't be surprised...
I remember 2 years ago they were in Bilbao, the shittiest field ever, a high intensity team against them, and they dominated the game, only to drop 2 points and scoring the 1-1 goal in the last minutes. Now it's the opposite, they get dominated but they score goals because they are "lucky" and they have talent. But talent alone won't save them against better teams.

I think there is a psychological part too. A couple of years ago barca seems unbeatable and a lot of teams didn´t even try to play a regular game against them. But after Real closed the gap and Bayern "raped" them in CL some teams started to play them like any other (still very very good) team.
Its the same with Bayern and Bundesliga right now. Besides Dortmund and some crazy dudes like Nuernberg, Stuttgart and Mainz no one even tries to challenge them and just says "every results below 0-3 is ok". Frankfurt for example didn´t even play some of their best players.
|
Anyway, but the triple tie in the #1 position is very exciting. Best La Liga season in a long time.
|
Guardiola man, Guardiola x) Even his last season he could have won the CL with a bit more luck against Chelsea. The team wasn't as good as in 2009-2011 but for a 3-3-4 team it worked well x) Tito and Martino aren't strong enough to handle these players. The likes of Piqué, Busquets, Iniesta, Xavi, Messi, ... won so many titles that they don't train hard enough anymore. No matter what they say to the medias ("We are still hungry" etc), it's just not true anymore, and it's understandable! The direction is guilty here, they didn't hire a strong personality, they hired a "father" (= Tata in South America). Tito was the same, as many coach assistants develop different relationships with the players, they are a lot closer.
Martino's turnover is the proof of this "self-management". Neymar HAS TO PLAY because he has a big ego and was expensive even if he has proven less than Pedro/Alexis, and I bet that if he's fit, he will start against City. When he replaces a player during a game, it's always going to be the guys with the biggest longevity in the team that are subbed in, no matter how bad they play.
Guardiola gave a list of players he wanted to sell to Rosell but Rosell refused and Guardiola left (for other reasons too). In that list (not officially confirmed of course, but everybody knows about it in Spain), there was Piqué, Cesc and Alves. These 3 same players that keep making insane statements in the medias (Alves recently said that he didn't feel supported in the Camp Nou, for example).
The team needs to have a fresh start with a coach that will be strict enough to put them on the bench when they are bad or ballsy enough to sell them (if the direction listens ).

I don't agree with you about Tata. He's nothing like Tito who was the plaything of the players.
Tata already benched messi when he was full fit to rest him(before his injury) which was unheard of, he implemented some crosses and some more direct play against the full tiki taka of pep and tito and the most important thing, he's making excellent rotations, 6 players have more than 30 goals+assists until now. I don't know if he will make it against other top teams but as of now I like his direction.
Also I think Neymar plays because of his potential, he's the only player with the drive in him to go for a solo run when messi is asking for the ball, we need more of this and less messi feeding machines like pedro and alexis.

@Pandemona PSG did not play as well as they could have since the beginning of 2014, but they still managed to reach 55 points at this points of the season which is an all-time record in Ligue 1 (with victories worth 3 points). Still, that second half was disappointing. And PSG tends to under perform against top 5 Ligue 1 teams. I hope they are just saving their energy for the game against Leverkusen, otherwise we'll loose

As old Indians say "If we play so bad and beat Sevilla 4-1, what's gonna happen when we'll start playing really well?"

Damn dem indians invented football then.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday.
Also Barça is the team with more goals from counter attacks in La Liga at 13, while Atlético is second with 11.

Yea the fundamental issue isnt the style of play, at times you have to put your hand up and just admit you arent as good.
Pique for example got owned by Bacca was outhustling Bartra and Pique all night, he was quicker, stronger and generally just had the measure of the defenders anytime he isolated them, every set piece felt like they were going to score.
Conditions aside, they just lack a bit of pace and hustle in their own end of the park.
I am not going to question motivation, lack of motivation is a bullshit argument. Everyone wants to win every year.
|
Of course they want to win every year, but do they have the mindset to make the sacrifices needed to actually win? When you've won so much, it's really easy to start caring less about training. A true professional would continue training hard every day, but I fear that some of these players aren't like that, Piqué being the best example.

Two articles that explain why United are shit this year.
Sure they have incredible players, but they only have one tactic. Every team knows exactly what's coming, and just try their best to defend against that one thing. Compare that to last year, they were scoring goals from all over the place. Moyes seems to have sucked the creativity out of his players.
He think's he's doing nothing wrong, and that this whole season has been unlucky, but United are yet to produce a single surprise, tactically.

that's what i've been saying since like the 5th game wtf.
