I dont know much about Boris Johnson, but he seems like a likable enough guy Im just going to say he lost his balance and found himself playing the a sport not quite suited to his talents.
First of all, I complete disagree that this has no risk of injury to either player!!! Look at the way Messi comes down, there is plenty of potential to bust a knee ligament falling the wrong way, or having the defender accidentally fall on his shin bone or something.
Secondly, it's just completely ignoring any attempt of winning the ball. It's such a ludicrous concept. I suppose it does happen in the NBA - players fouling the opponent tactically rather than as a result of a mistake. It's just something you don't see very often lol.

well if you did that in the NBA you would get ejected, tieing someone up and body tackling them to the ground are completely different things.
Either way taking someone down is dangerous, I guess for some people unless you get kicked you cant get hurt in football. You do that twice I dont think your staying in the game either. Thats a 1 time use only card, which is fine I guess.

Yeah I was just referring to how they lay their hands on the opponent at the end of the game in order to get auto free throws and give the chance of 3 pointers but...yeah of course you can't bundle someone to the ground like that.
I wouldn't coach my players to do something like that. I mean it's one random move in the game it's not like Messi scores from every run like that. Much more tactically sound to foul him but make it look like a nudge and not get carded!
BORISSSSSSSSSS What a fucking legend! Best guy to happen to politics in years. A guy who is LIKED and does actually useful things to what im on about. I mean those idiots in the subways in England QQn him for cutting 750jobs that are not needed for ticket offices on the tubes when everything is done online lol. They are just stupid unions being silly.

Ever heard of the concept of tactical foul? There is zero attempt of winning the ball and its way more dangerous than that foul.
I think this guy mixed the kind of football he was playing :D Still, while totally ridiculous and out of place, this tackle didn't seem that bad, he somewhat missed his opponent.

And what tactical advantage would you get as a losing team if you fouled someone in football?
EDIT: I guess I missed the video with a foul on Messi :D I was referring to the Boris Johnson video. In the Messi case I think the foul was a good choice by the defender, and he had to do it like that, cause Messi is really hard to stop. Sure, there was some potential for injury, but luckily nothing bad happened.
EDIT2: With the whole Mascherano deal, I think the penalty should be awarded, he clearly held the guy's hand and took him down, but the ref chose the safe option, as he was too far away to be sure.

Firstly yes, they are called professional fouls in usual parlance. Secondly, again I disagree. There are professional fouls which amount to essentially muscling the player off the ball (often using an arm), forcing them to deviate their path, and rolling away. The type of foul the guy did on Messi is probably more dangerous than that because you are dragging them to the ground and their feet can get muddled up underneath the movement which could result in a nasty injury, especially if you fall on them and trap a foot.
I certainly wouldn't coach a behind the back rugby tackle as a safe way to commit a professional foul. Not only is it potentially dangerous, it gives you NO chance of not receiving a yellow card, which is the aim of any professional foul. I look at someone like ricardo carvalho as one of the better professional foulers...doing unfair moves but not always getting punished accordingly. It's an art. And behind the back rugby tackling isn't part of the art lol.

Yea not having a Yorkshire club with some history in the top flght is rather unfortunate, from champions league semis to potential administration in a little over a decade, sighface.
