Fulham's Sascha Riether has become first player to be retrospectively charged by an FA panel for his challenge on Manchester United's Adnan Januzaj. For an FA charge to follow, all three panel members must agree it is a sending-off offence. In the instance of Riether, the panel were of the unanimous decision that it was an act of violent conduct. The defender has until 6pm on Tuesday to respond to the charge.

I've always though that in Roy Keane / Patrick Vieira era, there were at least couple of such post-mortem charges. But if not, this is already a huge change. Seems like at least some of old Marco Van Basten's postulates are coming true. The precedent has been set! If they ban a douche based on videotape record, why not approve or deny offsides with it?

It's good they are doing it though, helps stamp out the horrible tackles and the unseen incidents. They will never do the offsides with it due to it effects the game pace to much. The pause for offside be to great. Reason goal line technology took as along as it did XD

To me there is no difference in a bad challenge going unpunished and a blatant dive that has earnt a penalty or freekick. Or even worst gets someone sent off.

But, I also think it is not exactly the same thing as the action against Sascha Riether. What he did isn't allowed off-pitch either.

I think image recognition technology will become close to flawless in identifying off-sides in real time, maybe within 10 years time.
