18M for Thiago is a 'good' price. I don't think he's worth more really... He's young yes, but he hasn't proved anything yet. He has never played big games for Barça, and even in smaller games he has never really shined. Of course he's young and in Barcelona you need to be a monster to shine when there is Messi and Iniesta around you but still, I never saw something amazing in this kid (except for his godlike technical skills).
If you put him in Xavi's role, he's going to be average because he doesn't have the discipline needed for that kind of role, and he doesn't really like to defend. His best position is playmaker behind a 9. He's at his best when he doesn't need to defend too much and when he has many passing solutions (which he can exploit really well thanks to his technical skills) and when he can have the freedom to shoot at the goal and do solo moves. In Barcelona, I doubt he can play at this position as long as Iniesta is there, and I doubt they will put him to replace Xavi as he has never been good in this position (I would put Dos Santos there, or buy Veratti ).

In Bayern he would fit nice but still would have to face a tough competition: Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Müller (I'm not sure if he's still used like this, but still an indirect competitor). Maybe Pep wants to change their 4-3-3 but if he doesn't, I don't see him play Thiago without making big ennemies in the team :s
Manchester United would be a nice place to go for him as he needs stability and time on the field. But on the other side there is Guardiola so...

edit: shit I even forgot Gotze in the list

If Thiago wouldnt have some sort of weird buy out he would cost something between 30 and 40 Million. He will never be this cheap until he will be 30+. He has proven that he is good, he most likely will be very good and he could with his potential and a little bit of luck be one of the best in some years.

And even if he doesn´t work for Bayern and he has a bad season he could still be selled for 15 Million+ to almost every CL club. There is almost no risk for Bayern and he could be insanely good.

I really don't see why Thiago would go in Bayern. Seems like a bad choice plus the fact that Bayern have Toni Kroos who's way better.

I agree, but Guardiola might convince him to go to Bayern nevertheless.

It's really hard to tell what Pep wants. Assuming they keep the same formation as last season (and it's not a given), Thiago would play instead of Javi Martinez in the midfield and Martinez would play CB

Knowing how Pep works with young players I think Thiago has the talent to be world class very soon or Pep would not even bother.
Also, Pep should have really looked in depth at bayerns roster so thiago's coming would not be redundant.

These two facts speak for themselves.

+ Show Spoiler [Thiago goals & skills] +

From what I've seen on this video, he is most likely the Iniesta-type playmaker, skilled more in forward runs than pacing the play with simple passing game. He is only 22 so in 2-3 years might be the absolute tops of European midfielders, especially since he appears to have good long shots - an attribute that is basically nonexistent in Barcelona but is probably valuable in Munchen.

But his case really shows that there are just not enough top-tier teams in Europe. You have like 7 clubs packed with extremely strong players / epic lists of subs and the rest of the pack that has hardly any shot with giants. Thiago is at the level on which he'll have to outperform many other candidates for first 11, regardless where he'll go. The real problem is that if he fails, it will be rather difficult for him to admit defeat and bail out to a slightly weaker team (please, don't end up like Fabregas man...)

£12m doesn't seem like much at first, but that's about what Twente got for Luuk de Jong from Gladbach last year, so seems like a fair deal to me. Looking forward to seeing Bony+Michu play together.

Or he could play CF

Anyone who watched last season knows that Bayern doesnt have 11 players who play all season long but like to have 1 or 2 equal substitutes for each position and then switch it around between the 3 contests.

fucking swansea get all the good players. Bony is going to be every bit as dangerous as Michu.

And Dempsey absolutely was a terrible choice to rob from Fulham. he was doing perfectly there but it was the system that worked for him not his natural abilities.

Plus there is no guarantee that everyone will stay. Maybe Pep doesn't have plans for Hojberg(sp) or Emre Can.

Guardiola said in the press conference that Thiago can play in many positions: 6, 7, 8, 10. He thinks there is still room in the squad for another midfielder, because Bayern will play in a lot of competitions and he has very versatile players. For example, Mandzukic or Martinez could be used in a secondary role as central defenders or Shaqiri as left back.

Neuer sometimes looks like he has more the skillset of a midfielder than the skillset of a goalkeeper.

Neuer could play as a midfielder at almost every 2nd league and some 1st league teams.

This. The dude has a lot of talent, but fuck is he stupid sometimes. I really wish that Adler or Weidenfeller were in the national goal instead of him sometimes.
A sound mind in a sound body, is a short, but full description of a happy state in this World: he that has these two, has little more to wish for; and he that wants either of them, will be little the better for anything else.

Neuer is one of the main reasons Bayern won the CL. In modern football catching a ball on the line isn´t really important anymore. He prevents a lot of goals with his "offensive" play as a 11th player and with the ball on the foot he is just the best which is as important as having good reflexes.

http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1495721/rummenigge-pep-wanted-neymar?cc=5901

Meanwhile, copies of transfer documents from Santos football club, obtained by Brazilian media site Globoesporte, reveal that Barcelona paid €17.1 million for Neymar in what was an overall €57 million deal.

Of that, €9 million went to Santos, €7 million to investment company DIS Esporte and €1 million on taxes. The remaining €40.1 million, in the overall €57 million deal, was paid to Neymar and his father - also his agent - as "commission" and a signing-on fee.

The documents also show that Barcelona agreed to pay €2 million if Neymar finished among the top three finalists for the Ballon d’Or award. They also arranged to play two friendlies with Santos.

Last month, one of Neymar's former investors threatened to go to the Brazilian courts to get money he claimed to be owed from the player's transfer, amid confusion over the sums due to each of the various stakeholders in the deal.

This sure seems shady. If that's true that Santos only got €9m for the transfer (yeah, they'd get 2m more if he finishes top 3 in Ballon d'Or voting, and I'm sure playing friendlies with Barca will bring in a lot of cash), they got skinned on this deal. And with that third-party ownership shit Barca got pretty much ripped off as well.
