Regardless of how difficult it is, it just looks terrible and is complete wank. The level of enjoyment I get from watching Barca play is 2/10 consistently. From Bayern/ Man U/ RM it's like 8/10 consistently. From Chelsea I'll admit it's rarely above 5/10, from a pure football perspective, but meh. You don't have to enjoy your team, just support them . This Barca team certainly could be called one of the best teams ever but just because a team can win and is dominant it does not necessarily make them exciting. And you watch sports to be entertained primarily, surely. You forgot to say "imo". Because in my eyes I'm thrilled to see barca masterfully dictate the pace of the game each and every time. You find it boring, millions of people don't. Like one mate of mine said when we argued about the greatest athlete. He was talking about jordan and he finally said, how can you support this midget messi, jordan is so superior physically it's hilarious. Know what I responded? Well mate, it's exactly cause he's a midget that does all the stuff that players with beastly physical attributes can only be jealous of. People usually try to beat down barca's players using strength and vulgar tackles. They almost always fail. That's the most exciting thing I have ever witnessed in any sport anytime. First off, I have yet to see Messi carry an otherwise unremarkable team to two three-peats in a highly competitive setting (La Liga doesn't count and he hasn't done it there anyway). Jordan is a fucking monster, and is one of the greatest professional sport players of all time. Second, if we're talking about pure athleticism, you're gonna have to talk about someone like LeBron. The dude's basically a Greek God carved out of marble. He's incredible. Third (and I've been waiting a long time to do this), I didn't see that "masterful dictating of the pace of the game" when they got rocked 7-0 in the CL this year... Aw. Yea. When someone doesn't recognise messi for what he is I just let the respectable pros do the work for me. Ibra about messi + Show Spoiler +Rooney about messi + Show Spoiler +Wenger about messi + Show Spoiler +Mourinho about messi + Show Spoiler +http://zeenews.india.com/sports/football/mourinho-tells-iniesta-no-messi-no-glory_761021.html The legend Paolo Maldini about messi on l'equipe interview + Show Spoiler +“When I see Messi play, in my opinion, he should win the Ballon d’Or every year. He is an unbelievable player.” I could go on and on, SAF, Beckenbauer, Buffon, you name it. So, you'll forgive me if I pass on your opinion about Leo. xD And about the loss from bayern, well it's not like barca was in top form and messi could barely walk, so.. yeah.
Uses a sample size of two games to prove a point. Seems legit. do you purposefully erase all of his triumphs out of your head? not to mention, i'm fairly positive he just got off a hamstring injury as you can clearly see in game 1 where he was just walking around the entire game (like in game 2 against PSG) and in game 2 i believe he was subbed in late game or not even subbed in at all.. either way, he didn't even really play in game 2 cause the tie was already over. lol nice try though
Wow. Butthurt fanboys much?
First, I never said that Messi wasn't good. He's probably the GOAT in the sport. I was merely pointing out that Messi has not yet done what Jordan has done; carry unremarkable teams to two three-peats, so it's not like the idea that Messi is a better athlete or professional player (two different categories) is just a given somehow.
Second, take a damn joke. That last bit about the 7-0 defeat was pretty obviously teasing. The fact that Barca has had such a long period of dominance is what makes the joke.
God damn fans like you make sports less fun to talk about.

Rodery Delaps team is a mid table british club.. the midgets are world beaters.
There is a marked difference between what these skills are valued,
If everyone had those midgets with low center of gravity and good passing, they would, infact a fair bit of grass roots coaching has begun to adopt it pretty much everywhere..
Mind you its not just passing, more important than being able to pass is the first touch and what you do with it when you get it. Head up.. thats all they really preach everything else will come naturally to the ones who are genuinely talented..
Granted thats not what you want the game to become. every team should play the way the play
Some teams will just get flak for playing "not to lose" which if you are weaker team is fine in my opinion, but you cant be upset about the relative neutral being upset about it.
As for what it looks like ,thats a matter of opinion and this has already been established, saying it over and over again doesnt really make a difference if it hasnt in 2 years worth of threads.
You think passing is boring we get it.

Besides carrying a team in Basketball is significantly different. Theres plenty of basketball players NOT called Michael Jordan whove done what Messi has done for barca year in year out.. Thats nothing unusual and not all of them win.
On a side not Jordan for all his greatness will never be as relevant as Messi will be worldwide going forward. And thats not Jordans fault its just the exposure to media and the world being much smaller than it was in Jordans time.
No one in slums in Pakistan knows who the fuck Michael Jordan is, but they sure as hell know who Messi is.. and a fair bit of Jordans iconic status comes from people drinking his gatorade and wearing his airs.
So really Messi cannot do what Jordan has done because its an apples to oranges comparison and there is no need for him to..

Anyone heard of Mario Götze´s first Fc Bayern press conference ?
![[image loading]](http://www.spox.com/de/sport/fussball/bundesliga/1307/Bilder/mario-goetze-nike-adidas-514.jpg)
If you had to guess, his personal sponsor is indeed "NIKE", Bayern´s gear supporter Adidas was not amused :D

Please take this ignorant statement and go somewhere else.
Also, comparing Messi's sport to Jordan's sport is stupid. The amount of skill that is taken from around the world will always outweigh the skill in the NBA.
Finally, Messi is the GOAT at the most popular and technical sport of all time. Jordan is the best basketball player of all time, so it just doesn't compare.

since when is Messi greater than Pele or Zidane? Hell he is even less greater than Maradonna who at least won WCs with Argentina.
Messi is definitely ONE of the greatest of all time, but surely not THE.

^ lol wat, troll or hater?
Barça has pretty much already accepted the fact that Thiago Alcántara is leaving to ManU. Grats for one of the greatest signs in the past years to them.
Also catalan newspaper saying they might trade Villa + 25M for Rooney. Holy crap we are bad at this. Meanwhile Madrid is gonna sell Higuaín to Juve for 27M.
|
I'd love rooney in barca but seriously buy some freaking defenders wtf. And thiago will be world class holding midfielder in a couple of years, so bad choise to let him go.
But wait, why aren't they trading thiago for rooney then? Or is thiago a free agent?
|
Nope he is not a free agent, his buyout is only 18M atm because Zubi, Rosell and company are terrible
Tito said if he doesn't get Thiago Silva, he doesn't want anyone else and will do with the defenders we have. Another derp.
|
For those who are interested, Aubameyang has signed for Dortmund. (German source) A sign that Lewa might be leaving?
Also, during a medical at PSV it was discovered that Jeffrey Bruma (Chelsea bloke) has a heart condition. Good that they catched it before something bad happened.

Where is trolling or hating in saying Messi is not greater than Zidane, Pele or Maradona?
AFAIK winning WC is still the most prestigious thing to do in football?

Greatest is an arbitrary word anyway. By what measure do you define greatest? Is it throphies won? Is it being the best at the actual game? Is it WC's won in the 60's/80's where the game was totally different compared to now where winning a CL is much more impressive?
It's always subjective because it is arbitrary. To me Messi is the best and the greatest football player of all time. To the majority of football fans in the world he is the greatest/best of all time. That doesn't mean everyone has to have that opinion. It just depends on what you call 'greatest'.
Sharkie, you're often very annoying. Please try to be less annoying. Quoting my post twice in the Confederations Cup where I gave a valid prediction based on what I saw just to irk out a response is not very productive (and also bannable and no I wouldn't ban you when you do that shit to me because that would look personal). Also, when Brazil is winning 2-0 or 3-0 while they're playing awesome football and then quote someone who gave a wrong prediction in the light that you did it in is really fucking weak.

The one thing that always bothered me about Messi is that he plays in a team of champions, a team that won champions leagues and world cups without him unlike for instance Maradona's Napoli or even Pele's Santos. But now he has legitimately won me over as the GOAT, because when his teammates started playing like crap he continued to carry like a boss.

Yep sorry it was all about Juve a few weeks ago xD It is Arsenal for 27 indeed, according to Marca at least.
Btw Barça won only one CL before Messi in its almost 100 years of history. Three with him in the last... 7 or 8?

Yes, unremarkable teams. Jordan made those teams, and those players wouldn't even be household names without him there.
And are you fucking serious? Football has been a global sport for a long time. Guess who made basketball popular outside the U.S.? Jordan. Guess who paved the way for the American icon athlete like no other with his sponsorship deals and huge amount of public exposure outside the game? Jordan. Guess who revived basketball inside the U.S.? Jordan. Messi gets huge exposure by being in a sport that already has huge exposure. Jordan MADE his sport get huge exposure when it was being dwarfed by baseball and American football, and when it had little popularity outside the states.
Please take this ignorant statement and go somewhere else.
Also, comparing Messi's sport to Jordan's sport is stupid. The amount of skill that is taken from around the world will always outweigh the skill in the NBA.

Your basketball knowledge is simply astounding. Really.
Oh, and saying, "football takes more technical skill than basketball" is the most pathetic thing that I've heard in a long time. Every sport is incredibly technical, and to try to put some kind of measurement on "technicality" and compare two sports when every major sport in the world already takes an extreme amount of technical skill just makes you look like an arrogant ass.
In a discussion about the greatest pure athlete of all time, there are a whole host of people above any of the most accomplished players in any sport.
If we're talking about the greatest player of all time, it's pretty fucking shady to claim that Messi is de facto the greatest player of any sport ever. That just screams of 1) Messi/Barca fanboy syndrome and 2) classic football arrogance. Any major sport in the world is incredibly difficult to play and technical, and to write off the superior accomplishments of countless players in a variety of sports by just saying, "football doesn't work that way" or "football is far more technical, so less accomplishments = more" is arrogant and naive. There's a really, really good chance that Messi could end up as the most accomplished footballer of all time, and there's an argument for saying that he's already the most talented, and he could even become one of the greatest sports players of all time. However, he isn't there yet, and jumping to that conclusion is getting WAY ahead of ourselves. The man has quite a few years left in his game to pad his accomplishment list.

The following mentality: "You don't have to enjoy your team, just support them ." is clearly at play even while defending them on the forums. It's so clear you're a barcelona hater as well. Anyone with half a brain will look at the barcelona of 2010-2011 and be astonished by their play. it was not only tactically fluid but the utmost attacking as well. like it's already been said, you wish chelsea could play like that. i bet 10,000$ if they did and won trophies, you'd be on the ceiling dancing and singing "HAHA CHELSEA SO MUCH SUPERIOR TO OTHER TEAMS THEY CANT DO WHAT WE DO HAHAH I LOVE TIKI TAKA"
Your'e full of shit and dogmatic. Not a good football fan to talk with. Also about the person that brought up the referees vs chelsea in 2009 UCL; it had nothing to do with the argument that steveling presented which is why some could find it annoying especially when it seems to be brought ever few pages here on TL football threads every time someone brings up the fact that barcelona won a historical amount of trophies. he's entitled to say whatever he likes, but it was largely irrelevant. this is what i mean, you don't think critically, or else you would have realized that but instead, you just call everyone who says anything positive about barcelona fan boys it seems. like you're probably going to call me one even though i'm neutral.
I'm not a barca hater as I have said many times I enjoyed them in the henry/ ronaldinho period and I supported them before the turn of the century (even had a barcelona top when I was young). I just hate 80% tiki taka 5 shots style. If you like it, in my opinion, you are insane. And I support Chelsea regardless of their play. In terms of which teams I most prefer to watch, they are bayern, man u and RM. Not Chelsea. But like I said, any style that beats Barca is more exciting than Barca's style.
I very consistently state my opinion is that I enjoy watching free flowing, swashbuckling footie. Not constant triangle passes and extremely conservative aggression, which is what Barcelona executes. They are, imo, one of the least exciting extremely successful team in sports history.
|
You can hate the tiki taka style all you want and it's fair game. Can't say 5 shots per game and pretend to be taken serious tho xD Check the numbers in La Liga games by Barça, it's not really even close.
