I never said/am not saying you can't win, I am just saying it's harder for you to win that way. And NBA history proves it, which is what I am using as my basis for this statement.
I am also just saying that because of this, it is less efficient for a team to spend a majority/big portion of their salary cap on their PG, or the "shortest players on the court". And I only say PG in the sense of the shortest-player-on-the-team (which is really what I mean by all this). And I say PG in the sense of looking back in history at all the players we can clearly classify as a "traditional- PG", not the hybrid ones. I mean if Magic at 6-8 is your "PG" then that is not what I mean when I say PG. Same as Wade at 6-4 and his freakish athleticism when he was younger. I only used PG in that post if I really meant it.
And once again, PF is the second least efficient position for a team to spend their salary cap on (I've said this before also so I agree). Which is why I have been saying that D'Antoni's system is somewhat of a fraud and a style that has never won a championship (it relies on a PG and a stretch PF).
The taller, the better. That is what it really comes down to.
If you can have two great perimeter players that are on the tall end, then you are at an advantage over the two great perimeter players with one being short (like CP3). Same if you have one great two-way big man. The taller, the better. center>PF. Which is why dominant centers have won more championships than power forwards.
Again, I am basing everything I say on championship teams. I have gone over all the years previously (months ago). This was just a theory that I have rolled with, I don't any feelings so don't take it that way. I understand how the NBA is changing, I have harped on that here for way too long (I can link my posts on it if I must).
On September 14 2013 07:40 Jibba wrote: A wing that can carry is obviously at the top, but the two way big man is less important. You need a good defender from the position, but their offensive output and benefit has been decreasing, and not just because of the small talent pool but because of defensive changes. Can you explain please? And I think it might even be possible to list dominant centers that fit this description from this pool you speak of in the last 6 to 7 years? because there aren't many. Like I said, I understand/have posted about how the NBA game is changing so you don't have to focus on that in your post.
It's becoming more and more problematic to define players as 1-5, we should really be talking about the things they do. The things Kyrie does on offense are extremely valuable, I think moreso than what most big men bring to offenses. agreed, which is why I say perimeter players so much. I only said PG in the sense of current/or already-retired players who very clearly fit the traditional PG description (CP3, Nash, Stockton, Kidd, I. Thomas). Also, I am going to link this great Sloan presentation on NBA positionsfor those who missed it.
He's not a superstar yet, but he is outstandingly important on one end. And I don't think the combination with Lebron would be that great. There's too much overlap of their strengths. Yeah, Lebron can carry anybody, but the scrubs he was carrying in Cleveland were spot up 3pt shooters and garbage points big men. It's not like Kyrie has the all-around skillset that Wade does to take a step back from primary ballhandler. So you are saying Lebron can't not be the primary ballhandler on a team? I disagree. Lebron can play any role on any team now. He has the post-game, size, athleticism, skills, and smarts do it. I honestly don't think it would be that hard. For anyone who disagrees, you are underestimating how good Lebron is compared to everyone else.
edit:my link on the nba-positions was actually kind of crappy. There are better ones out there, with more explanation and with only 10 positions instead of 13 IRC.

I think Lebron is at his best when he's doing that. I was a huge fan of how he began playing in the post last season, but the deeper it got into the playoffs, the more they went away from that. In part because guys like Granger and Leonard had an easier time guarding him that way, and the Pacers and Spurs didn't give them easy cuts.
You put those two players together and the team will be amazing, but I'm saying their abilities won't synergize as well together. I'm curious if there's numbers, but it seems like Lebron is a worse shooter when he's not creating his own shot. That's just a feeling though, nothing to back it up.

Pacers set to finalize a 5 year, $90 million contract with Paul George http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--paul-george-finalizing--90-million-plus-deal-with-pacers-021149436.html
All-Star forward Paul George and the Indiana Pacers are finalizing a five-year, $90 million-plus maximum contract extension, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
A deal is expected to be signed this week, league sources told Yahoo.
For the Pacers and George, who was voted the 2013 NBA Most Improved Player, the five-year deal will cement the gifted young forward as Indiana's designated franchise player. George's extension will begin with the 2014-15 season. He will make $3.2 million this season. In three NBA seasons, George has developed into one of the league's most thrilling young talents, blossoming into a starring role in the Pacers' march to a Game 7 against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals last season.
George, who was selected to the All-NBA third team for the 2012-13 season, is part of the 2010 draft class that has until Oct. 31 to agree upon extensions to avoid restricted free agency next summer.
George raised his scoring average to 19.2 points a game in this past postseason, up from 17 per game in the regular season. He has a strong chance to be part of USA Basketball's 2014 team that will compete for the World Cup of Basketball in Spain, and the 2016 Olympic team in Brazil.
The extending of George's deal solidifies a Pacers core that could contend for an NBA title this season and beyond. After pushing the Heat to seven games a season ago, Indiana will return forward Danny Granger from a knee injury, and added a key reserve in a trade, forward Luis Scola, to strengthen what had been a weak bench. Indiana also signed free-agent forward Chris Copeland of the New York Knicks.
Indiana re-signed forward David West to a three-year, $36 million extension in July, and secured center Roy HIbbert with a four-year, $58 million deal last summer.
George recently told the Indianapolis Star he expected an extension to be completed before the start of the season.
Glad we are getting this done so there is no speculation. Pretty sure the $90 million is under the assumption he will qualify for the Rose Rule.

I have no idea how the finances work out but I think this is a good move, provided that it allows them enough money to pay Hibbert and a few other pieces once their contracts expire.

Hibbert was locked up long term last off season as well as George Hill. West signed a 3 year deal this off season. The question is what happens with Granger and Stephenson. How much will they command? Its likely that this will be Grangers last year in Indy.

This Pacers squad is also really good, so I could see him or Stephenson possibly taking less money to stay, who knows though.

I like what Kendall Marshall said
Not of a fan of the nickname idea.Having your last name on the back of your jersey isn't just representing yourself, but your family as well. The nickname makes it more about the individual. It's still a team sport. Represent your team, your family, and go out there and play.
But i probably wont mind if its only for a few games
|
Eh it's just another jersey selling tactic. It's dumb for players who don't really have nicknames, but jerseys for player nicknames like the truth or black mamba might be cool, who knows.

I'm with you. I never missed an episode of Inside Stuff. Used to fill up VHS tapes with the highlight runs at the end of the show...ah the days of Larry Johnson being bad ass...
