No way I'd even bother taking a chance on Bynum at this stage. Might as well sign Roy and Oden to go with it. Bynum's done.
edit: at least they were savvy enough to offer him a contract that reflects he will likely be a bust. Hard to feel bad for Bynum--guy is a massive douche. It's basically 6 million for bad Bynum and 12 for good. If it doesn't work it doesn't work, if it does they get a decent center.

To Jazz: Biedrins, Rich Jeff, Brandon Rush, GSW's 2014 first rounder (unprotected), 2017 first rounder, 2016+2017 second rounders, nugget's 2018 second rounder, and cash.
To denver: randy foye, gsw 2018 second rounder
to gsw: igoudala, kevin murphy The Jazz get expiring contracts so next year they'll have a ton of cap room for free agency+picks, GSW gets cap room to sign Iggy, Denver gets...Randy Foye?
I'd like to explain it with a meaningless nuanced analogy. Think of the salary cap as a factories carbon emission limits. Well, the Warriors have Andries Biedreins and Richard Jefferson, both of whom are terrible polluters. Utah is a hyper clean plant, so they have offered allow Golden State to "rent" their carbon credit for one year by taking on these awful polluters. This lets the Warrior pollute even more by acquiring Andre Iguodala via sign-and-trade.
The Jazz get paid by receiving a boat load of picks and Brandon Rush. Denver shrugs and gets some scraps since they were never retaining Iguodala anyways. It's really a win-win-win, except for the Jazz owner who gets to pay 28 million dollars for 2 decaying bodies.

I hope Bynum comes back and kills it this year <3
Didn't realize how mentally tough Bynum was until this past year of D12.

No no, I don't think that's the right way to put it. They already had cap space. They didn't trade for more cap space. Doraemon is right: They are going to pay 28 million dollars in contracts for picks. That's all it is.

![[image loading]](http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2013/0710/nba_u_clippers3_mb_600.jpg) Good pic.

^Mostly a good pic, but Rivers looks a little...creepy. Like he's the godfather or something.
Cavs could be really fun to watch if Bynum is healthy.
Ellis picked an awful year to go fishing for suckers. No contender would want him and everyone else is tank city.
|
+ he's comically overrating his worth.
I'm not sure there are any GMs left that are stupid enough to fork out the $12mill per Ellis thinks he's worth.
I'd sooner take a risk of Bynum's 90%-likely-to-fail knees than sign Monta to anything like what he wants.
|
But, but... Monta have it all...
|
Remember Monta says he is like Wade...
|
that pic is such a boss! look at doc, he's out for blood.
|
I like the atmosphere of the pic, the only problem I see is that Ryan Hollins is in it.
Edit: And Bynum agreed to Cavs deal, still need it in writing though. I'm sure Mike Brown is ecstatic to babysit Bynum again.

I didn't mean it like that, merely that the contracts that they were going to take, while terrible, would only last for one season, a season they were planning on being pretty terrible during anyway. So they get draft picks in exchange for taking on bad, overpriced talent, which isn't really that bad for them anyway.

Chauncey's back with the Pistons! Probably not much life in those legs, but at least they've got another 3pt shooter and someone to teach Knight wtf a PG actually does.

Meanwhile, at Lakers headquarters...
Kupchak: "Soo, Mike. Who do you think we should amnesty? We got a few players here."
Antoni: "Well, I mean, who tries the most on defense? Metta? Ya I say metta, I mean it's bad enough I have to find a way to use that post-game thing Pau has in his arsenal, but I think he is a safer bet to not play any D."
Artest 'Metta': " No, wait coach! I mean I don't have to play any defense. I could just sit there and launch some 3 pointers and not hustle back like the rest of the team. I don't have to play D."
Antoni: "Well now I am not so sure Mitch. On the one hand I really don't like that post thing..."
Kupchak: "Yes, ok. Let's take the next few days to decide..."
|
In all seriousness though, if the Lakers sign Nick Young I think the possibility of cutting Metta goes up. They can put Kobe at the SF slot when he comes back. They kind of need him though, they don't have many SF's if they let him go at this time.
I also think Gasol will have a good season. The more his role has diminished for the Lakers, the more their dominance has diminished. He hasn't been the main post guy really for LA since 2010 (bynum then howard) and he will surprise some people.
If the Lakers sign Odom and Young they might be okay actually...if Kobe comes back healthy...if Antoni can incorporate slow-runners Gasol and Kaman into his modified-style...
No defense at all, but they might surprise....maybe they will be in it for an 8th seed.
|
Unfortunately an 8th seed and likely out in the first round is a terrible place to be in the NBA, unless you have a really young and upcoming team. For the Lakers it would mean no lottery pick and your team isn't really getting playoff experience that is meaningful because they are all veterans already.
|
I agree, but it is just my realistic look into it as the pieces are right now.
Ideally, I also think that if the Lakers start off bad (or good but with no real hope), they could trade Pau and Nash for whatever they can get. It's just hard because it pretty much means saying sorry Kobe, we don't think you can do it anymore (and not sure he will be okay). That is the main reason I don't see them blowing it up...

Riggin' for Wiggins is the new Suck for Luck. They just have to roll with it.
