Im sure its more about the contract they would have to give to a first rounder compared to a head coach for a year. Salary cap is usually the biggest impact when it comes to decisions in the nba
First off, I am surprised at how well the Clips did through all this, go them. ...and late First-Rounders are valued at around 5 million by execs but the big thing is that Donald Sterling is even willing to pay this much for a coach.
It makes sense for a lot teams to do this deal, but specially the Clippers. Doc Rivers, one of the top 3 current coaches in the NBA, instantly stops all the Clipper-jokes. Him and Chris Paul on the same team? Instantly the toughest team. And if they get KG, that team is not settling for anything less than a championship. Whether they do it is another story, but there is no doubt that is where they will be headed in their minds...
Other raw thoughts on why it it's good for LAC is 1. They never get their picks right anyways =P 2. This has to keep Paul in LA 3. They won the negotiation. They knew they were in control and the longer they waited, the more it benefited them. They put out a report Sunday morning that they were moving closer to negotiations with Scott, and few hours later, the deal is going through for Doc.. 4. If everything goes well for them, it will be a 25th or later pick. Plus, they save another draft pick for a Garnett or other trade possibly. 5.Sterling doesn't care about winning as much as saving money, so it is surprising he is willing to pay this much. If they had waited for Boston to release Doc, the price would have likely gone up. Sterling has always been penny-wise but pound-foolish, and this is actually a breakthrough.
Rivers is a coup for the Clips but they still need to tweak that roster.
I'd be shipping Jordan if I could, although the market for his contract will be very limited. I assume the Celtics will try the Garnett for Bled/Jordan again? I really don't know of any other NBA team that would be willing to give up anything of significance for DJ.
Wondering where the Celts go from here. Pierce/KG/Rondo all gone? Could be a good time to put in a call about Rondo.
* Shaw apparently has agreed to coach Denver * Wiz are discussing trading #3 and Okafur to the Bulls for Lol Deng * Magic and Clips are discussing a trade of Bledsoe/Butler for Afflalo * Marshon Brooks may be heading to T Wolves * Rockets are desperately trying to ship T. Rob for cap relief. * Cavs may actually trade the number 1 pick for the right package. Seems the rumours about them wanting to make the Playoffs could be legit. * Cavs rumoured to be offering two high second round picks for Pierce. Celtics gutting their roster. Everyone available. * Mavs may be looking to shed Shawn Marion's contract by packaging him with the #13 pick. * Chandler Parsons recruiting Dwight Howard through use of soft porn:

How stupid are the Wizards? I guess this is the ultimate test. Both Deng and Okafor having expiring contracts after this season and they both make the same amount, so that's a wash. I think Okafor is hugely overpaid, but the dropoff after him is... Kevin Seraphin? Trevor Ariza has been a disappointment, but Martell Webster played over his salary, and they can probably get him again for 3-4m.
The only reason I can think of doing it is if they truly want to tank for a draft pick (again) but then you're pissing off Wall and Beal. I don't understand how you can give away your position of least depth, pay $22m for 2 SFs and give up your #3 pick. That's just insane. You'd have to be Colangelo or MJ stupid to make that move, no?

I'd love for it to happen but I don't think it's going to.
Bledsoe/Butler for Afflalo would be crazy too, the Clips would be giving up so much for relatively little.
if Robinson gets traded (I think likely, since Rockets are trying to free up as much cap space as possible) i'd feel kinda bad for him...3 different teams over the span of a year would suck.
Damn, Shaw getting the Denver job is pretty bittersweet for me. I'm very happy he got it, he's deserved it for awhile honestly. He's going to be a fantastic head coach. But I will miss him in Indiana.
