It doesn't have to be that big, it's so hard to drive that a fair number of residents of NYC literally never learn to drive. It's 389 miles. Takes a while to get on the highway, then a good portion of that is through the adirondack mountains, which is a hell of a drive. Then when you get down near the city itself, it's almost impossible to actually just drive in, so the few times I've been we had to park somewhere upstate and take a train in. Had some pictures taken the other day at an event on campus. Was looking through them, and ended up comparing them to the last progress photos I have (which is about how I looked this november, even though they were a year old). At least to my mind, there's a hell of a change. I'll definitely be taking some real progress pics when I finish up my time on this BB routine.

PRd back squat twice today. First Grinded out 211kg for a 1kg pr then went for 216. I hit 216 so beautifully it went up as fast as my warm ups at 110.

Damn, you gotta film your squats more often decaf. Grats on the PR
I spend last week or so moving out of my parents house into an apartment. Today I went to a nearby gym that I heard lots of good about. And my god is it a good gym. Eleiko gear everywhere, GHR, place to do olympic lifts and 2 powercages and a couple of squat racks. Some of the people who train there are really really good, even on international level (one guy placed 5th IPF junior world and won gold in deadlift, another guy deadlifts 308kg for reps).
Really excited to train there

If I can easily do 10 or 12 pullups at my bodyweight, should I start adding weight? I picked up a weighted vest (I also have a weight belt), but will increasing weight help?

Depends on what you want to achieve.
but generally speaking, yes, do add.

I think after a year or so of training I'm now at a place where I can better judge for myself how to workout. I'd have been lost without the structure of SS and 5/3/1 but this is definitely working better for me at the moment. It's basically a modified SS:
+ Show Spoiler + Monday 3x5 Squat 3x5 Bench Hanging Leg Raises
Tuesday Pull-Ups Bicep curls
Wednesday Front Squats triples (Weight varies on how I feel) 3x5 OHP Good Mornings 3-5x10 (light ~70kg, concentrate on form)
Thursday Chin-Ups
Friday Bench 3x5 Deadlift (1 top set, max reps, increases each week) Hanging Leg Raises
Saturday Pull-Ups Bicep Curls
For all 3x5 sets the last set is normally 5+.
I much prefer this. Tue/Thu/Sat can be done at home as I have the equipment. Bench or OHP can be swapped around, or replaced with dips. Wednesday can be light for recovery, I can do cleans/snatches/log press before FS, and because I'm not back squatting I don't have ego coming in telling me to go for a max.

Hey everyone, haven't posted in a while. Spent last 2 weeks going to the gym only 4 times a week and eating lots of crap so I got a bit fat after my awesome cut . It had mostly to do with me starting poker again to get a side income, but I've gone trough the dark path and put in enough study and actual grinding that I can do it moderately now while continuning with a regular life.
My next powerlifting meet is at april 27, I've decided I want to competa at 74kg again, despite my 1.70cm height just because I've never been single digit bodyfat, prolly never below 13. I can't really make it to 83kg lean, so better get super ripped and then have full 6 months to gain weight and cut again.
Lifting goals are to repeat my last meets total weighting 6kg less basically. This includes getting better knee wraps to mantain my squat :p. If I can add 3kg to my bench PR I'd be super happy, as I'll be the first chilean to double body weight bench press raw (148 at 74); also super happy if I can pull 255 again, but 242.5 would do.
I've got a fairly good idea on what my training is gonna be, starting next week I'be going 100% at it as ultra music festival is this weekend (and pool parties are the best thing ever). Already leaned down from 81 to 79,5.
GL everyone
Edit: UCL Spoilers
+ Show Spoiler +Also as a 10 year milan fan I can't be happier :D

Yeah I think that was me. That's pretty bad.

Lol I just found out that I have to get surgery over the summer and that article was...discouraging at best. Kind of sucks when you think about how expensive the surgery is and how high the markup on everything is.
|
Well from what I understand that article was for a couple that didn't have health insurance and went to a top-notch specialist institution. Sure, the prices were still ridiculous, but if you have proper health insurance you should still be fine.

Damn, at least I know where I can go when I finish school.

You have to see how much the hospitals charge...it's a little ridiculous. The insurance companies obviously don't pay them nearly that much, but it's a little bit ridiculous when you consider how expensive everything is.

It goes on to more ridiculous examples and the general problem of health care cost.

Seems pretty unavoidable that this would happen with privatized medical care. Like any business hospitals can charge what the client is prepared to pay and who's counting when you're sick or dying?

I thought about making a post in the Injuries thread about this, but the problem is not debilitating enough for me to classify as an injury + Show Spoiler +
I've been experiencing some pain in my legs lately; it starts and ends in the circled areas, tending to be sharper and more pronounced here, and radiates between these points along the lateral sides of my shins. This pain tends to twinge as I hit the bottom of my squats. If I sit at the bottom of an air squat for awhile with my weight shifted towards my toes, the pain is VERY pronounced as I stand back up.
My speculation is that the circled areas correspond to attachment points of some tendons in my legs, and that they're inflamed from being stretched too far when I squat. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Is it an indication of there something being wrong with my squat form?

It's disgusting, is what it is. Like, thousands of percent of profit, billing patients multiple times for the same things. It's hideous.
Makes me glad that, even with the hassle it can be at times, I have free insurance for me and my family from the Army.
