I want to switch to hook grip from mixed grip for my deadlifts. ( because it looks more badass and actually feels much better on my shoulders idk why) Any tips for the transition? I tried pulling 140kg with hook grip the other day during my last warmup set and my grip started to falter after the 2nd or 3rd rep ( left hand's grip is weaker , probably because I'm right handed?) | ||

Obviously Hook Grip is fine to use. In my experience (and from what I've read online), it is just not a grip you want to use for (higher) reps (which in this case is everything above 3reps). It just doesn't work well with sets of 5 at max weights, you basically have to regrip every time, and the thumb gets a whole lot of stress and tires out fast. It is more of a max-effort grip, so nothing above 3 reps I'd say. And you also probably have to deload quite a bit at the beginning, so a little test for the ego. Maybe someone else can commentate on this too, my experiences here are pretty limited, so maybe I am totally wrong. | ||

Decide to do some chinups and pull-ups instead of row, since I don't have all day to walk around like an idiot. Check back, same people doing there shit on both benches and power racks. Do dumbell press instead of bench. Go do some tricep dips to kill time, pretty burnt out so decide I will just do some light speed squat sets. Guys still doing 1/2 box squats with way too much weight 45 minutes later. End off their set with light squats in which they come up completely on their toes on purpose, im guessing for calves, looked really stupid and awkward. I decide just to use leg press cause I gotta leave soon, needed to do all my shit quick to make a meeting afterwards. Look back to power rack to see all 3 of them doing OHP on only power rack. Didn't say anything cause I have no voice since Saturday, and I probably wouldn't anyways. So all -in all didn't do anything I planned to do at gym and was very sick during it all. YAYAYAYAYA love 1 power rack. | ||

There was this guy who "took over the bar, after I loaded it my discs" and he said "it's my turn now, you always do stuff here, you gotta give people a chance" in the most rude of manners, he wouldn't even let me warm up with the weight he was using. Wanna guess what he was doing? Yup, ez-curlz. I was so mad at this bitch, he also (I think he's the one who did it, I'm not sure) put a "complain" with the gym owner, because I was using heavy weights, and according to him, "I was dropping the weight too hard and I was going to break the discs". The owner proceeded to tell me that I was doing oly lifting, and for that I needed to go to another gym, this and that, etc, etc etc. By the time I was getting out of the gym (cause I was done with my workout), the gym owner was outside and she said "walk with me", she then proceeded to explain how she didn't give a fuck about what the other dude said, and that she knew what kind of workout I do, and she knew that I take care of the discs. All in all, It has been a weird couple of weeks at the gym, and well. Douches are douches. Next time, Imma tell him, go and do your machines and gtfo of the mans sections. Go and curl something else. muthafucka. | ||

I said the same to one of my gym buddies.. it actually might not even be that expensive since all we would need is a few squat racks, bars, plates and probably some dumbbells. if you have a few people who pitch in it might be doable! the biggest problem would most likely be finding a good space to set up.. @sjarl: totally! | ||

I also feel pretty self-concious of the noise I make during deadlifts, as this is the definitely a "wellness-center, not gym". I have to find a new gym, but cba to look. Been feeling really tired and stupid these past few days. | ||

Also, damn calorie deficit. My squat and DL is dropping. I should probably try to find a new program, squatting three times a week is really taxing :/ I've been lazy and skipping workouts lately! Jim Wendlers 5/3/1 maybe? Or just up my intake and start doing Smolov, I really want to try that program some day ![]() | ||

By light day I mean front squats or 80% of your 5RM for 3x5.
