did some cleans yesterday. felt kinda weak and couldn't get 85kg. I recorded myself - i think i'm too slow getting under the bar. any tips on how can i work on this?

Your speed is fine. Your position off the floor and your pull needs work. Lower those hips at the start. watch the videos in the OP.

You're pressing out way too much on the jerk, its not "snappy" enough. Split those feet faster and a bit wider and lock out sooner. Try relaxing your upper body before your jerk (keep your chest up though)
how reasonable is it to eat off wood instead of your tummy?

Good eye! That second jerk was very pressed out. The first one I think would have passed in a competition, though.

This is my first real attempt at jerking, and I have to ask myself why I waited so long to try it. In the three Oly lifts (snatch, clean, jerk), it may very well be my favorite.

Meh, i've pressed out less and gotten red lights.

I did the same thing, ignored my jerk for like a month or two. Mostly cause i didn't have lifting shoes. But then i realized that there was a lot more techinque to the jerk than i thought, it wasn't just something you do. I like it a lot more now that im getting better at it.

Are you supposed to hold your breath or exhale during a clean? Whenever I manage to clean heavy weights I feel like I'm terribly close to passing out.

I usually inhale before I pull and exhale as I get past the sticking point. On lighter cleans/snatches ill exhale before hand to relax more during the lift

I've been starting to do full cleans around a month ago and just started to do jerks this week, and my c&j's are pretty bad, especially my jerks (they are just terrible). Some videos:

The 155# jerk is pretty damn terrible. Just kinda muscled it up there. My jerk balance is pretty terrible and I can't split for my life. I'll be practicing with some lower weight a lot more. Any tips or advice?

Is there any reason why you're doing that barefooted? It seems to me you lack the confidence to really stick your landing your jerk and some footwear might help protect your feet and get you over the fear of really splitting your feet swiftly and slapping them down hard. However, I'm still learning and probably not the best source of information about this stuff. The second video's also private right now.

I don't have any weightlifting shoes so I just put on a pair of sneakers. I didn't know it made such a big difference, squatting and deadlifting barefoot seemed pretty normal and I didn't have any problems cleaning barefoot too. Edited another video in with some shoes on. It does make a pretty big difference o.o

Yeah, I made the platform. It's not very hard and not that expensive.

You need Oly lifting shoes, they give you the feeling that whether there's a tank or a baby in the way, your foot will go through it ez and then stomp on the remnants.

Jerk is different. You can get away with cleaning/snatching barefoot (although not recommended) but the fact that you are moving your feet forward/backward (at least in a split jerk) means they are pretty necessary. The clean will feel even better when you use oly shoes.

I feel pretty good about my snatch. I feel like it gets away from me at times a bit but I'm fairly consistent at it. But my clean is bothering me to hell and back. Once i get to my second pull it swings away from me and despite the fact I'm getting it in the slot, it's crashing on me much more than I used to even though i'm pulling better and it causing me to lose my bounce out of the catch and raping my collar bone. as can be seen here:

I'm not sure what to do to keep myself from pulling so much and swing back away from the bar as opposed to pulling myself under it. Considering completely resetting my clean for a while and replacing strength training with heavy squats/rack jerks/snatches. I hope I can get to my coaches gym for a day or two this week and getting something more helpful than "relax" and "more feet"

hi everyone this is my first attempt at learning to power clean. all i've done is read the power clean section in starting strength and i have no idea what im doing. criticism appreciated =).

edit: want to add that i watched the videos in the OP but that was after this video was taken
