yea i would really get more meat into your diet. I dont know about you but if i ate that diet i would be hungry throughout the day. Also the apples might actually make you more hungry throughout the day because they are so high in sugar and they bump up your metabolism. try either snacking less(made easier with more protein to make you feel full) or maybe some nuts or just drinking alot of water.
but seriously eat like a human not a rabbit =P

For you:

1. Cardio is fine to start off with. I would also add in some bodyweight exercises such as squats without weight, pushups, etc. Also, stretch and work on your mobility.

As your weight starts to drop, then you can start adding weights to squats, deadlifts, etc.

2. EAT MORE PROTEIN. Cook eggs the night before if I have to... sometimes I eat eggs and meat one night and cook enough for the next morning. You can do this for lunch too if you don't mind eating the same thing 3 times.

Buy a crock pot and throw in vegetables, meat, spices, etc. and turn it on the morning and you have stews for dinner. It's prety sweet. Learn to stir fry... it's pretty easy.

Also, diversify your fruits. Berries are much better than apples nutrition wise.

I would also chop the chocomilk for now. It's pretty much all sugar, and you don't really need that. Water, tea, coffee or bust.

Well my plan once i get my broken grill fixed is to add chicken breast to the salad. The milk stays. I was drinking 100oz of pepsi a day. Not diet...pepsi. I hate the protein shakes etc... I dunno. Its one vice I'm okay with keeping. The reason i'm with apples and banana's is they are easy to eat when your on the go or don't have alot of prep time. I'm liking the bananas more, but everyone kept telling me to try apples too. Honestly I'm such a picky eater and have such low cooking skills that I'm just in keep it simple stupid mode.

I think I'm going to start a blog on here. It might be easier to get help and tips/motiviation. Keep track of everything long term. I don't know if I would say I'm on a specific diet...but I'm on something.

Crock pot and stir fry are like the simplest things you can do for cooking... and you can do a lot with it.

your choice though. :\

I can attest to this. The best meals are one composed of meats and vegetables, and stir fry and crock pot are super easy cooking methods. I had no cooking skills either when I started, but now I've actually learned to make a few things. That's a side benefit to eating healthier!

For stir fry, I just:
1. Get a pan,
2. Put some olive oil in to prevent searing,
3. Throw in a pound of beef ( I buy the cheapest stuff 'cause I'm poor, it's called "Beef for Stew" at the store, just small chunks of meat) and fry it until it looks done
4. Throw in my favorite vegetables (for me, usually broccoli and carrots)
5. Dump in a bit of seasoning (or don't, honestly it would still probably taste okay with nothing)
6. Eat.

I usually make enough for 2 meals, so I can take some to work.

Also, I used to grill chicken/pork/beef once every 5 days or so, and grill enough so I have leftovers. Now that it's really cold out, I just bake it instead. Baking chicken is super easy too, much easier than grilling. I season/marinade the chicken, put it in a glass pan, put a bit of water in the pan (to prevent searing), foil on top, and bake at 375 degrees until it's done. Make sure you have a meat thermometer handy. If you want, you can take it out about 10 minutes before it's done to drain the juices and remove the foil; this will allow the chicken to darken and make it look better. Then add some sort of vegetables (I often just boil a bag of frozen mixed vegetables because it's cheap and easy) and you're done. Again, you can do this and save leftovers for work the next day.

Hope this helps.

the reason why people target the drinks first is because they are by far the easiest things to change for the largest effect. just switching to water reduces SO many calories AND saves you money.

honestly whenever I hear someone say they have low cooking skills all i hear is them being lazy and just havent tried it at all. you only need cooking skills if you want to cook something really complicated. otherwise just throw stuff in a pan and wait abit while occasionally stirring it. most vegetables dont really have to be cooked at all. and meat you can just cut up into small pieces so they cook fast. the more you do it the more you develop timings. seriously just try it. maybe you will realize that its really fun, get good and have another skill to get the ladies.

btw people on here might seem like they are being harsh, but they are really just trying to help you. and its distorted by the fact that in the real world people just pussyfoot around these issues.

Where did I say I wouldn't follow the advice??? The only thing I said I would do is keep the milk in the diet... Its my one vice, and honestly it isn't that bad. I was advised previously when weight lifting that if you absolutely hate protein shakes etc that 1 glass of milk after a good lift workout session isn't the worst thing in the world. Yes, there are better more ideal options, but my 1 glass of milk every few days is going to help keep my sanity. My grill is broke. I'm making things that i can right now. Yes I need to learn to cook better...most of us do when first starting out its why we were living on fast food and processed foods to begin with.

There is no point in trimming everything to the point of perfection if perfection will only last a few weeks and you burn out and give up. Its about making healthy choices that you can live with and keep yourself sane. That's how I view it right now. Might be different from your point of view.

I understand there is room for improvement. Let me tell you my life right now. Its hell. Really it is... Someone tell me this isn't hell or they have seen worse.

1. My wife is filing for divorce
2. I'm struggling to get in shape
3. I run a household solo now. No help from soon to be ex wife (something I've never done before)
4. I struggle to pay the bills, while waiting for court to get relief
5. I'm overhauling my personal life to work out properly
6. I'm overhauling my diet to lose weight and be healthy.
7. Last sunday I had to put my cat down. We both picked cats out.
8 The kicker... while she's back living with her parents I'm taking care of her cat solo with no help immediately after my car had to be put down. She never stopped by never saw my cat before I had to take him.
9. Oh yeah she just says she's unhappy, doesn't discuss why and is basically running away taking her ball and going home. no fight, nothing, no try. never previously mentioned that she was unhappy before. My counsling through work said they have never seen this before...

Let me know anyone whose had a worse 2 weeks than myself. I look at it like this. I'm getting by, I lost 10 lbs in 1.5 weeks and I'm working out again. Its been 2 weeks. Things will get better.

I agree with you, it is a proccess that takes time to adapt to. But the advice was sound and cooking things in advance really does save you a whole lot of time.

I look at it like this. If I can add chicken in well then I'm basically there on the diet. Yes, not all of it is perfect. But doing what I'm doing for 6 months is > than doing what is perfect for 3 weeks and giving up.

The biggest motivation is the scale for me. Well that and my life is screwed. Every Monday after work I'm going to weigh myself. While I'll still weigh myself throughout the week the scales of justice will be committed to a spreadsheet and I will track my progress weekly. If I can loose at least 2lbs a week I'll be in good shape. I think i can beat that and exceed that, but time will tell. Start small work for something bigger.

This community and threads in this forum have been a life saver for help and support. It might be brutal, but its true and its what people need to hear. You might not be able to absorb it all in one or two weeks like I can't. My thoughts was every week try to add something in that is improving yourself. This next week its going to be figuring out how to get my protein up. I think chicken will be a part of that as I like chicken over beef.

Anyways thanks for your guys support, advice, and help. You didn't have to, but you have.

damn shit sucks man. although i have to say its a good time to start changing diet and workout. it gives you concrete goals to focus on and it will make you feel better. gl man.

also as for the scale, try measuring your weight after you wake up. it will probably give you a more consistent benchmark. but also, dont just focus on the scale. I got my diet into shape two months ago and went from 215 to 195. started SS and now I am still 190-195 but my pant size went from 36 to 34(actually closing in on 32 but my newly massive quads are getting in the way of that) and I feel much better when I look in the mirror.

My real next question is...when i start lifting at what week will I more than likely plataeu and just start shedding fat stores...right now my understanding is muscles are being used, restored and strengthened during my beginning stages...

My goal is by march 3rd to be under 240lbs. thats roughly 2 lbs a week. It might be a very low goal. But its easy to say oh your losing weight fast but at some point its going to be come much harder.... i don't know when that is.

It is really impossible to say when you stall out, it is such a personal thing. 2lbs a week isn't low at all imo, it will go fast in the beginning because you are mainly losing water and stored glycogen but after that weight loss will slow down pretty fast.

That is where weightlifting comes into play, if you are still getting stronger and staying the same weight or losing it you are definetly making progress.

Weekly weighings in the beginning are the way to go, then you wont get sidetracked by a sudden, random gain of several pounds.

You might want to add more meat in your diet though. It takes so little time and knowlegde to cook meat. Just take a bit and fry it up, add some veggies and you are done.

There were some nice advice in the TL Health and Fitness thread from Malinor to Sheth, who is in a similar spot as you: a fat guy needing to lose some weight and add muscle.

I'm on leangains atm. It's going great, except that I sometimes get hungry when I cuddle (and stuffz) with my girlfriend late at night. Like normally I have my first food at 11~ and my final dinner at 7~. Now it's 00:25. Anything I can do to ease the pain midfast? BCAA only option?

Being up late nights will kill you on leangains - if you don't get a good nights sleep not only will you feel hungry before bed, but you'll wake up more hungry in the morning. Get more sleep at night if you can, move your eating frame to later in the day (I like noon or 1 to 8 or 9) drink a bunch of water and chew some gum at night, make sure there's fat in your last meal... other than that, just suck it up?

i could think of something you could eat while snuggling with your girl harhar

@purecarnagge: milk is not a problem, but the choco in it is but if thats what it takes to keep you sane and motivated, you should definitely keep drinking it. Best of luck to you, and remember, when you've hit rock bottom you have nowhere to go but up
