Boo fucking hoo, 175 and perfectly happy with that. Should that change some day I'll just move to Korea where I am a giant. What pisses me off though are the 190+ guys who snatch the short girls. Such a waste of shortness!
Finished first goal today: 1.5BW squat @ 105kg
bench 67.5 deadlift 115 press 42.5 pclean 42.5
Which bring me to my hate subject: For 6 weeks now I am failing 42.5 on the press. Virtually 0 progress. I started power cleans just last week and already easily overtook the press (don't know if that is expected though). But my press is so ridiculously fail.
And a question: I found that when I rack the bar in the top slot at the bench, I just barely get it out in my work sets. And that makes me lose form every time. So today I racked it one slot below, started from there, and racket it back into the top slot (for safety reasons). The 67.5kg were WAY easier that way than the 65kg last week with skewed form.
Is that a bad idea? If so any other suggestion how I can use the top slot without losing tension and form?

Press is a bitch, almost everyone I know struggled with it. I was stuck at 115 lb for the longest time, then suddenly, I move past it and made almost linear progress all the way up to 140. I recommend resetting and eating more food. Your performance actually increases quite a bit once you start eating more, but it takes a few days to kick in.
Your bar should be racked at a height that's parallel to your starting position, such that all you need to do is bringing it forward without raising it or lowering it. I'm guessing your rack has three fixed slots and not adjustable?

He barks at me whenever my form slips, so I am almost 100% sure that my form is nicely below paralel. I have a little tendency to go down to fast, because it makes going lower easier, but I'm working on that. Also, tomorrow is my birthday. Prepare for awesomeness.
Going down quickly in the squat isn't a problem if you do it without losing tightness. If you're losing the arch in your back, the puff in your chest, or the stretch in your hamstrings THEN it's a problem, but otherwise, it's just a guy with a bigass weight pushing him into the ground. Good that you have someone to check your form in real time though, Videos and this thread are great, but they aren't there all the time.

Doing squats/deadlifts/frontsquats right after one another does sound like death to me though hahaha I couldn't handle that if I was going all out on every workout. (which you should be )
Most of us are on full body routines here every day that we lift, but pretty sure only Dimsum is crazy enough to oly lift and max squat every day of the week. He's a very experienced lifter though.
Funkie, you should probably be good to go two days in a row if you accept that you'll be a little tired, and that it won't be the greatest second workout you've ever had. Also if you can avoid squatting two days in a row, I would (do deadlifts and front squats, or something) just because of the risk of a form slip and then injury in the lower back or the knees.

I'm 20 years old, 6'3" (193 cm). I "stopped" growing when I was 17, but every male on both sides of my family has grown again from 21-22 years old. It's really a mystery how tall you're going to end up. You can roughly estimate, based on your parents and the rest of your family, but in the end it doesn't mean much. I have a twin sister who's only 5'8 (172 cm) and I have a little sister who's the same height as I am. Shit's crazy, but here's a hint:
It doesn't actually matter how tall you end up, unless you let it get to you. Literally, NO ONE except you will care about it in the end, unless you end up awkwardly tall and lanky (which is why I go to the gym), or you end up short and have a little man's complex. Or if you're a girl. Then it matters too.

Dem short girls so Cute though. Never been attracted to a girl taller than my shoulder. When she's gotta stand on her toes, and you still have to lean down to let her kiss you, shit is cash.

It's expected that the PC will overtake the press. The muscles involved are just significantly larger, like the relationship between press and bench, or squat and dead. PC shouldn't ever overtake your squat though AFAIK.

If you need to do it to keep tight form across your back and shoulders, by all means go ahead. If you can get it out without causing yourself any harm, I don't see a problem with it. If you run into a bench that only has one height (ex. the ones in my gym) just get a spotter to help you lift it out. That way you can keep your shoulders tucked, chest out and up, body tight, and bench properly.

Has anyone have of a product called Ultradrol?

So i went to the gym yesterday with my friend (remedysc) and heres what i lifted. Squat: 150lbs bench: 55lbs, still working on recovering my shoulder so this is all i can do for now with high reps. Deadlift: 215lbs.. i was really happy with this it was easy and now on friday i'll be doing 225lbs! 1.5x my body weight. And for tomorrow its powerclean time but im still having trouble getting the rack position down.
|
ya zatic, watch some vids (so you think you can bench on youtube iirc) and you're supposed to just pull the bar straight out horizontally straight into position. i have similar bench to you and muccch smaller press and am starting to struggle getting the bar out

I'm one month into the Insanity program and I am loving my results. I was already in good shape but this program is awesome.
|
Squat: 175kg 5-5-5-5-5 Press: 73,5kg 5-5-5-5-5 Deadlift: 192,5kg x 5 PR
That was a rough workout, nearly every set was a grind until the end and I was extremely tired. But I got every rep in, so I am happy that I pulled through. Right now I am either a) not eating enough or b) not resting enough. Well, I know it is both right now, but everything is just too much fun right now . Anyway, tomorrow a little bit of HIIT (lol, I can already sense the pain), Thursday is lifting and on Friday I can take a day off. So I will just increase my calorie intake a bit for the next 3 days. Starting right now with a nice steak after midnight.

Good shape=/= strong, though. Also that post by ILOVEKITTENS is amazing, highest of recommendations.
Few nap related questions to eschlow/anybody else:
-Is Napping a useful habit to acquire? -If yes, what sites/books do you recommend to learn about napping? -Any stuff you recommend on sleep in general?
That's it, got a date planned for my birthday, will write a big fat battle report.

Thx for all the comments guy. Gonna hit the gym today!

tomorrow: squat 65kg (might puke) bench 67.5kg dooo itttttt!!!!!!!!!! dead 100kg (or higher if it goes okay) curls , will try 17kg for the first time. i picked up my 15kg dumbell the other day and mysteriously raped out 10 reps with my left arm, no idea how that happened lol.
i know im not supposed to bench this often but fuck it i wanna reach my target!!! once i hit 70kg ill slow down with bench for a bit, and add side shoulder raises to start bringing my shoulders back again. will still leave it at least another 2 weeks before attempting any sort of OHP (injury)
just had 700g of beef w peas and sauce and a shake, almost passed out afterwards lol

Meh i am a frequent nap taker. usually cause i stay up too late and wake up too early. I just keep them less than 45 minutes unless i'm running on a couple hours of sleep (which happens far too often T_T)

I will now start either max back squat or front squat every workout. @avocado, squats looking good! The dark background isnt helping though haha.
What's you're weekly workout going to look like these days? I think bud is giving his daughter a weight set to take to school and put in one of the shitty dorm gyms which should be easier for me to get to so i might take up lifting 4-5 days a week once i get back to school and have the time to.

Press hasn't moved in years, I'm stuck in 62-65kg. Maybe time to deload? what you guys think?. Tomorrow, I'd be doing Front Squats, Bench press and Chinups. While they're not the best programs someone could be on, they're definitely not the worst, and anything that gets people moving and motivated is worth it in my book. Wish I could get my sister to do Insanity; her old room mate had great results, and my sister is always complaining about how she doesn't fit her clothes from high school anymore (neither do I, but that's a good thing =p).
1) she saw a friend have success on the program 2) she asked me, who by now knows a little bit about fitness and I recommended it to her 3) I downloaded the entire collection of workouts, and burned it onto DVD's for her, since she did not want to pay. 4) my parents bought her a 42" TV to put in her room, and watch the DVD's on 5) she never started the program.
fuuuuuuuu.

It gets lower than 60 F here at night in the MIDDLE OF THE SUMMER. Funkie, come visit me (or decaf) a day in December, you'll never feel cold at home again.
