Maybe having more muscle mass to cut through outweighs the increased recovery? IDK, you're the med student. GL though froadac, at least now you know you really can lift, and once you've recovered you can jump right back in!

But it all depends on how long it is until his surgery is and how long his estimated recovery is. And of course how big the surgery is...

IIRC, there were misplaced rods in his back to deal with scoliosis, that fused improperly, so that has to be "fixed". Also going off memory, the surgery is in ~1.5 months? That's the extent of what I know about it, so you'd have to talk to him to get more specifics.

every so often in bench press i get searing pain/twinge on the right side of my back if i dont have an absolute perfect positioning/form on the bench. always the right hand side. when i ask for a spotter, they always expect me to keep lifting until failure, but i always stop 1 or 2 or 3 before failure. its because after X reps/struggle i start to lose my positioning on the bench and im scared that right side of my back is going to suddenly become uncomfortable then twinge and then cause injury. maybe i should ask my GP about it next time i go. if i say im concerned and want an x-ray to get a professional opinion about whether my uneven ribs could lead to injury

Just tell the spotter how many reps you are going for and when you finish it comfortable just lie to him and say it was just because of the added confidence of having him there => everyone wins ^^ Dunno about the ribs though..

Ever since I moved out and started working I don't really have time to make myself dinner so I get a lot of takeout from fast-food/deli type of places and I just feel unhealthy/sick of eating shit. What are some type of meals I can eat that are 1) healthy 2) not much preparation? Thanks.

Maybe make a huge pot of some stew or just marinade and grill 2lbs of chicken breasts at a time. Preparation is king though.
