your power perfects are perfect for pc. Weightlifting shoes are made for olympic lifts.

Pretty nice study by some Harvard lads about running and heel strike vs forefoot or midfoot strike. Interesting read for those of us who like to run.

While they stop short of prescribing either shod or unshod running or footstrike pattern over the other; they seem to suggest that while the overall stresses are relatively the same regardless of footstrike or shoe there is less overall initial "impact" from forefoot striking vs the sudden impact felt when heel striking.

Was going to do a light recovery workout today with some snatch practicing.

Got up to some singles of 50kg (still with an awful form lol) when I start feeling this discomfort in my right arm. Looks to be somewhere around the brachialis instertion, just above the elbow :/

I figured I'd try to do what I could, which was nothing since I couldn't even squat properly because of tight hips. So I just ragequitted and stretched.

Off for some RICE and drugs...one day of moderate drinking and spending the weekend with my girl and I come back feeling like I've been hit by a train fml. Even got this nice cosy numbneses in my forearm, spreading to the back of my palm...

This is what I have done since I got access to a barbell again and plan to do till my first meeting. I'm really pushing it, cause I beleive kettlebell work gave me a strong base from which to push it for a while. Later i'll look to add 20 pounds deadlift/10 pounds bench press a month prolly. I'm still wondering how to add squats, atm I'm just doing light singles after everything to get the form down and hopefully as much carryover from deadlift as possible.

Good numbers you have, considering your bodyweight.

It looks very well planned out, peaking the week before and with some lighter days before the meet. What is kind of bugging me is benching and deadlifting 3-5 days in a row per week. That just seems a little over the top.

But if it has been working for you it's good. It's just looks like something that can work for a while and then you completely bomb out.

My routine now is based one strongman training. It consists of one lower body day (front squats, rack pulls, speed deads and some cardio in the form of prowler or similar), one upper body events (snatching, axle press, farmers walks and atlas stones), one pressing day and one recovery workout day.

Mehhh, got lazy today. Fucking exhausted all day after spending the morning at my friend's grandmother's funeral. Came home and ate and ran errands. Cooked a ton of shit hoping to work out tonight but wound up eating dinner way later than I wanted to and took a nap until right now. Plus I have that 5k tomorrow damnit. I think I'll have to just call it a day and get some more rest, eat more tomorrow, run tomorrow night, and see how I feel on Wednesday.

My hip is very sore

Going to try to stretch out and exercise, so long as my hip doesn't bug me too much. I think I just pulled a muscle, but I"m not that sure at all.

How important are squats to overall health? I see a lot of people talking about them, but I don't have a barbell so I'd have to buy one, or go to the gym, which is pretty far away. How much has everyone benifetted by doing squats?

Tried to go heavy one last time before my meet to see where i want my opening lifts at and knew it was gonna be a shitty day when i failed 70kg snatch like 5 times T_T. Did manage to still put up 105 but fail sauce at 108. I'll probably open 95 or 100 depending on how i'm feeling. Clean and jerk i failed at 120 rofl so bad. Didn't really expect to hit 145 again or anything but would have been nice to get at least 130-135. Squatted 150kg 3x5 nice an easy to make myself feel better and did 3x5 push press at 70kg. Taking it pretty light on wednesday and that will probably be the last time i lift before my meet on sunday. I have a rugby game on saturday, i'll probably just try to play one half. It's a really shitty team so i shouldn't have to put in too much effort lol.

edit: FUCK Qualifying totals for american open 2011 just came out. 94kg is 269 (almost reasonable enough for me to stay at 94) and 105kg total is 284 which i dont have a prayer of hitting this year. Bleh i still wanna move up i'll just be way more upset about it

Actualy i jump like a fatty, so need to train it i can dunk, but it shouldnt be anything special with my height.

I wanna dunk from standing and 2 hands at least.

nice. You've got 10 cm on me, but I could dunk 1 hand standing before my original knee injury. Said knee injury now continues to reappear whenever it feels like it. Definitely check out your running form man, Make sure it's good. If you've got it, a heel strike may not seem like a problem now, but if you keep it up the next 2-3 seasons, it's going to cause problems you'll have to deal with forever.

If you want to increase your jumping ability, start squatting. 100% nothing better for it. even if you're under 6 feet (183 cm) if you can really squat, you'll be dunking. In fact, when my sister's feeling lazy I might be going to my old highschool to try to convince some of the guys on that team to lift. I don't even know most of the kids on the team anymore, but I've been to some of their practices, and there's a few guys that could really use it.

Power cleans >>> Squats in terms of vertical leap.

Squats. are. AWESOME.

edit: also might be going through minor alcohol withdrawal LOL Normally have no anxiety and recently been having small bouts of it when i'm not busy. SOMEONE GET ME A BEER (or stop me from drinking for a week T_T) Either that or I just need some time to recover, lifting and rugby practically non stop probably isn't too kind to my body :-/

Nothing like an epic youtube video to remind me why i do it.

had some newbie buddies come to the gym with me today so i decided to try out the SL5x5 routine.

day 1

squat 275 5x5 -- failed pretty hard on my last set. On my 3rd rep i got halfway back up until i started to slowly fall back down ass to ground. It's a shitty feeling when you fail on squats TT;;
bench press 195 5x5
barbell row 145 5x5

it was actually a lot more fun than my regular split routine. I was starting to get bored with the same old every day. I think i will keep this up for awhile and see where i get!!!

Well, I started well below what I could do out of fear. But yes, I think it's good progress. Almost think it's too much, must be doing something wrong. but on the other hand that's unlikely so...

Still felt weak today when I had to go to the front office to help an 89 year old man with a heavy bag. he handled it better than I did tt

Hey everyone,

I'm still having some lower back pain when I'm doing squats. Just as a reminder, I mentioned earlier that all I have to work with is a smith machine. I lowered the weight 20lbs and my form seemed to be better but to be honest I'm not even sure if proper form translates over to this machine. I wont know for sure if the pain is from the machine or my technique until I can find a place to do it properly.

For now I was wondering if you guys know any lifts I could do to substitute the squat with while I look for a new gym. Thanks.
