Unfortunately i also had the "beep test" (some fitness test involving a lot of 20m shuttles) and did shitty. After 10 levels (putting me a barely above average vo2max) the bottom of my quads were cramping from lifting the last two days so i had to stop even though i was hardly breathing hard T_T

...welcome to my life.

Whenever I have the beep test at school, I can't be bothered to stop working out around it, so my legs are always dead loooong before my cardio is and I end up stopping somewhere around 9.5 (the minimum pass mark) and 11.

When I asked my doctor why I have gotten sick five time this winter, he ignored my question and told me that I can't go outside without a mask on and need to take a week off of work as to not infect other people with influenza, and then they shoved me out of the hospital so I didn't infect all of the old dying people. As we well know, Asians do not fuck around with contagious disease, but I'd like a doctor who's a little bit less useless in the future. I know that after I get over the flu I'm probably going to end up getting sick again, due to the fact that I clearly have some kind of immunodeficiency, but apparently there's nothing I can do about that right now.

Japanese doctors are completely useless.

You cut out the fish oil completely and still got sick? What about the vitamin D?

some insight:

1.- Don't be stubborn!. If you're starting out, do Starting Strength, and ask as much shit as you want. Believe me when I say, I was a stubborn motherfucker. In last years thread, I refused to do SS, for a couple of reasons, I thought I was "beyond" that cause I did curls and stupid shit like that, rofl. I didn't consider myself a beginner in fitness, AT ALL. Oh boy little did I Know.

2.- Don't pass on eating. It's very important that you do, Do not end up like me and get to the gym with only 1 meal a day, that is going to be VERY VERY BAD; you will fucking regret it if you do. You need energy, and it all comes from food, so Eat up, and drink your milk.

3.- Always, always, work on form and then on weight. Form > Weight. Technique is very, extremely important. having a good form ensures you're targeting the right muscles in your body, and you're doing everything as it should. This will result, in a better progression, and better overall fitness.

4.- People at the gym think they know shit. They don't. Don't believe most of what they say. At the beginning of my SS journey, I came across this guy who said "He had been lifting weights for 7 years", and he SAID that I was going to break my back cause the way I was doing Deadlift "was not the proper way". Now I deadlift 20kg more than this guy, and I barely struggle. This means, educate yourself, and if you can, spread that knowledge, if in doubt, as always, ASK.

5.- It will pay up QUICKLY!. SS uses a basic principle that is the novice effect, which to summarize is YOU'LL GET FUCKING MOUNSTROUS AND STRONG IN 3 MONTHS!. Seriously, I couldn't believe the shit I was doing when I was 1.5/2months in, I weighted myself after two months and gains were: 10kg, and I was squatting 90kg (I started with bar alone, and then I felt I was going to die cause it weighted too much, rofl :D).

6.- Enjoy the gym, it's a fun place, it's a place where you can let go of stupid shit that happened in the day, if in need of rage, scream "TL HEALTH AND FITNESS MADAFAKAAAA" and you'll gather the strength you need for anything. .

Cheers guys!, and Lift the FUCK UP.

<3 :D

Note: This post is due to the fact that I'm extremely grateful to this thread, to the people who have given me advice, and to everyone who have showed support for one anther. You know who you are, so yes, names are not needed <3 you all!

Yeah i dont think you're quite at 10-12. I'm in that range and i'm pretty ripped and abs are visible (esp if if i flex them). 7 is really low, i dont think staying below 8 is recommended.

Eshlow you did a fucking fantastic job with the OP, kudos

Lasat summer I got really into working out trying to put on weight and I was really active in the fitness thread. but school fucked me over and I couldn't find the time to workout and I pretty much lost everything I had gained over the summer.

Gonna try logging what I eat since that's the biggest problem I have with putting on weight.

Starting again this week to try and put on 30 pounds by the summer. tired of going to the pool and looking scrawny and pale. i can fix one of those things ^_^

decaf I expect you to yell at me too ;-)

I tried to ease back into the vitamin D by taking 5000 IU every other day. This was after 2-3 weeks of taking in none at all.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't the vitamin D, nor the fish oil that was making me sick. It must have just been my immune system was wrecked after getting pneumonia, which was never completely cured. I'll see how I feel after this.

All of this illness has made me weak. My squat is probably going to be 90kg x5 after this, down from 120kg x5. I think I'm just going to start a typical bodybuilding bulk after I get completely better, as I'm afraid of going on another caloric deficit due to repeated illness and general body weakness. I may just stick to 3500 calories/day for a few months, and then cut for summer.

i just bought 170$ worth of free range+grassfed meat, + some whey powder hopefully this lasts me more than a week lol

@eshlow, my left knee is causing me a minor annoyance, i think around the lower kneecap area. hurts when i straighten my leg out fully and have weight on it. anything i can do about this or should i just go to a PT?

Ive forced myself to go to bed right after work (afternoon - evening shift) for 2 days in a row now, i think this is a record. I feel much better tho, gonna keep this up and my lifts should improve as a result (and ill actually do them instead of sleeping in) TY guys for your continued inspiration

I have a question for the experts. I've been lifting and been in a busy stage of my life. I end up working out 3 times a week generally focusing on the 3 big compound lifts with some assistance exercises. My schedule focuses on Sunday: Squats, Tuesday: Bench, and Thursday: Deadlifts.

I have the motivation and the ability to lift more often but is it really necessary? Reading around it sounds like to get stronger at a lift you need to lift that exercise more than once a week. My progress seems a bit slow especially since I'm not putting up big numbers so that's the reason why I'm asking. Advice? Thoughts?

Age: 17 || Height: 5'9" || Weight: ~130 lbs
Starting Date: 1/12/11 || Goal Date: Maybe ~June, but no specific time
Weight goals -- Gain a pretty considerable amount of weight, probably 20 lbs (to 150 or 155)
Training goals -- Get stronger in pretty much everything (I've just started SS)
Nutrition goals -- Eat better, but even more important is to eat more - I sometimes skip meals
end up eating unhealthy snacks. Eat three healthy meals a day
Misc goals -- I pretty much just want to be stronger and healthier in general. I also want to stop
wasting so much of my time on random shit like browsing the internet when I could be doing
something more productive (reading, getting more sleep etc). Oh yeah, and sleep more.
Imagine if i had a REAL weapon

How much do you lift?

I'd say the best bet would simply be to copy a program, whether it be SS advanced, Texas Method, Wendler's 5/3/1 or one of Bill Starr's various programs. Pick one that suits you, follow the program and use the spare time to focus on eating and sleeping

I've personally stopped training due to an extended holiday between the end of school and start of university, dropped from a lean 80Kg to 76Kg and gained a little fat too. O well, after a couple of months of hard work I'll be squatting 3x5 into the 100s again easy. Plus winter will be coming up so I won't be scared of getting around 15-16% bf while bulking

Wendler's 5/3/1

It's an amazing strength plan. Even if you're a beginner just doing Starting Strength, I'd still recommend reading it for an insight into training mentality.

glad to help if a staff member could give it a permanent host on TL, i'd appreciate it, but if it doesn't fit into the site's ideal file description someone can just re-up it if it goes down.

also, my bag that was delayed at the airport for three days FINALLY ARRIVED. no vitamin d for 2 days and i'm already feeling sick..time to hit up some 15kIU.
