This is pretty cool. Will give a chance for some lesser-known faces to qualify for the National Tournament.
Wow that's great. Good job to those at Playhem as this is an amazing opportunity for some new exposure!
finally a non-korean will win in Playhem NA
EDIT: I can't read apparantly. Bah-leted!
Awesome for Playhem! You guys are doing so great now :D
Awesome, I am looking forward to playing in a lot of these qualifiers!
When's the USA Nationals?
Grats Playhem. All the hard work pays off, give your admins & casters a big hug.
OP says nationals is in May, but MLG announced they organize them in June 8-10 at Anaheim.
The StarCraft II World Championship Series USA Nationals will be held at the MLG Spring Championship – June 8-10 at the Anaheim Convention Center. The top 16 finishers in the USA Nationals will receive an invitation to compete in the StarCraft II World Championship Series North America Finals ( August 24-26, location to be announced).
Love how blizzard is reaching to the community using other sources for their tournaments, gratz playhem
EDIT: I can't read apparantly. Bah-leted!

Wow only US citizens? That is so awesome. I will definitely be playing in those ^_^.
Blizzard US National Tournament ->>>>>Players must be US citizens
i think thats why its us citizens only
This will be fun
woot woot can't wait to cast this!
inb4 major signs up to 16 different nationals
I like the extension to the entire playerbase, not only extremely high level players. Of course they're going to win, but I still enjoy the ability to participate until my silver ass gets roflstomped by illusion... ^_^

Hm i think the top players from MLG and maybe other leagues/ladder get a direct invite to the nationals. It's 64 spots there after all. But so yeah, even more chances for the silver league, or unsponsered players to get a trip to Anaheim and play :D
Can we get clarification from someone from playhem on one point? Are permanent US residents (with green cards) allowed to compete? Restricting to just US citizens seems like a mistake.
wonder who is doing the Canadian qualifiers :/
hopefully we get a bit better moderation for restricting it to United States citizens than previous tournaments
GL to everyone playing !

I don't think it's a mistake at all. Even if you are a permanent US resident with a green card you can still become a citizen. So ya, if you're a citizen, you're a citizen; if you just have a green card and no citizenship, then you just have a green card and no citizenship, lol. If you feel that is unfair, take it up with Blizzard, but the point is that they want people of that nation to represent that nation, IE citizenship.
Hm, this is pretty short notice.... Still will be fun
I'll be keeping a thread updated with results and who's qualifying over here. GL everyone !
Sad that people like me in Diamond have almost no chance of winning this >.< Its ok, good chance to get some good practice with high end players, everyone should do this.
i am not american...........sad........
What time is this happening at? In the OP and Battle.net, it says 5 pm in PST (which is 4 pm in PDT, i believe?), but on Playhem, it says 5 pm in GMT-7, which I believe is PDT.
Does the tournament occur at the Playhem time or the Battle.net time?
same time as playhem daily always is, 8pm est/5pm pst
admin has to ban those who are not US citizens or those who already qualified to the wcs...
Invited already I'm sure.
EDIT: nm, they do have invites.
Is there a separate qualifier for Canada?
That's so sweet! Glad to see that Playhems tournaments give seeds for larger tournaments. I was actually waiting for this to happen for quite some time.
Love love this! Very cool that MLG is working with Playhem on this. More people will get a chance to see the Playhem Daily regulars ... so many good players out there people don't know much about.
Playhem would like to congratulate Bob "xSixVer" Ekkebus on winning the first open qualifier for the US Nationals! To support Ver visit Check Six's website HERE!

Where are the brackets and list of notable players for each of these qualifier Playhems?
Why are Idra, iNcontroL, Huk, Sheth, Illusion, SeleCT and Scarlett not playing these?
lol, and destiny bites the dust

I checked with Everize while he was competing and he told me he was a citizen, and he lives in the US. If not then we'll give the spot to a runner up.
I am completely baffled that all these no name players will qualifying. How big is this national tournament going to be?

Since it's only US citizens it isn't to surprising. Other then Idra/Sheth I can't think of any other NA players who will qualify no matter what (and I imagine both sheth/idra got invites to w/e and don't need to play in these).

Where are these "invitation" comments coming from? From my understanding it was going to be quite similar to a WCG or ESWC where there are not invites and everyone has to qualify.

In some countries there is invitations based on performances in relevant local tournaments.
Here the official word for the US of A: 64 participants will be invited through a combination of qualifiers and the StarCraft II ladder to compete in a best of three games, double elimination tournament for $15k in prizing. The top 16 finishers in the USA Nationals will receive an invitation to compete in the StarCraft II World Championship Series North America Finals.
I wish they'd do Canadian open qualifiers through Playhem. Somehow, I feel doing it through CSL will be leaving people out.
When does the Canadian qualifiers comes out anyone knows? please ^^
Sky Zu , Sungbin Lee! Might have some non US ringers on our hands!

No admins online. I am very disappointed @ playhem for not having any admins online but having 2 casters online. I had to dispute a smurfer who admitted he was from Canada and thought it was a North America tournament and not USA only. I have vod of him admitting but no admins are online so I guess it is whatever.

Congrats to NrSRaNgeD, out most recent qualifier! Takes our FTaCtFiery 2-1 in the finals to secure his trip to MLG Anaheim to compete in the WCS USA National Championship. Only one qualifier left, good luck to those playing in it!

Hi, vVvAstro here. I could not reach you, you were not responding in channel playhem for a long time, and I was looking for about 10 to 15min for any admins at all. They started streaming Hashe vs Kings (the guy I had the dispute with) but I went unnoticed. I tried even the stream chat but no one responded there either. Many other players were trying to contact you as well, as multiple messages were in the playhem channel. I stopped looking once Hashe beat Kings because there was no point then. If an admin was online(actively) maybe playhem could have come to a decision based on Kings admitting he was from Canada before he played his game vs Hashe.
Here is a Vod I highlighted from the night as I was streaming the tournament. **notice :20-:26 seconds in the VOD as I am in the Playhem channel and also how player STn is looking for admin as well and said "Astro is on but hes not replying to anything or being active."** Link of me trying to contact admins.
It does not really matter at this point but Playhem needed active admins, not admins that just idle during important events like WCS USA qualifier.

I was so confused reading the OP and then the comments until I realized the date was changed in the OP.
Signed up for the third qualifier. Is there any way we have to confirm we are a legal Canadian citizen before competing? It would be a shame to be knocked out by some skilled foreign player early on only to find out that the guy who beat you should have actually been disqualified.

yeah wtf.. I realize people want to play on streams that have high # of viewers, but if you've already qualified you really shouldn't be competing in other qualifiers. There's absolutely no point + it might hurt the chances of other competitors.
