Following FXOpen's acquisition of the Korean team fOu, there has been much discussion about the players uniforms. Instead of choosing ourselves, we are going to let the community have an input into the process of creating the team's uniform.

Design a shirt, tracksuit pants, jacket for FXOpen E-Sports.
It must contain:
The FXOpen Bull/Bear logo with 'FXOpen' and the slogan on it (the pants may just use the logo)
The Razer logo
- THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS JULY 25 -
Prizes
The winner of the competition will recieve their own personalised kit, with their name printed on the shirt. The FXO shirts with names are only for FXO members, so this opportunity may never come by again.
Templates of the uniforms should look something like this:
Not sure how much interest NASL got in the whole "design our set for us" thing, but sounds like a fun idea, hopefully some talented people get interested, I think they should maybe deserve abit more than just a kit of their own though .
You might also want to upload some stock .pngs or w/e of the logos!
Look forward to seeing you guys in some new gear, that orange stuff always looked abit too halloweeny too me ^^.
Whoa this is an amazing idea. How long does the competition run? will the voting be open continuously as more are added or will you collect all of the designs, make a poll, and have a set day/week/time period for everyone to come on and vote? I think this is freakin AWESOME. Plus, people in the community can't complain because they chose it. I'm going to be so envious of the person who wins.
FXOboss... is such a boss. One of the few teams i would actually die to play for. Gives so much back to the community and has recieved probably very little for it. Pretty cool competition

That's really not large enough for reasonable shirt designs. I'm guessing FXO already have a far larger one for other promotional purposes so it would be nice to have that here.
Below the FXO, your game name will be there. FXO boss.
This is meant to be for the back of the shirt!
Sorry for the bad fxo logo! Ripped it off the net and had to remove the background. Would love if you would attach both the FXO and Razer logos transparent background.

honestly if i were you guys i'd make as many different designs as possible, maybe try out some different colors too, just to see what it might look like
I am expecting something epic form this, the community usually has a talent when it comes to things like this, we see a lot of amazing work posted in general just for fun.
Hey Disafear, I like the lightning effect you made, it does look kinda cool.. except as your said the trousers currently are kinda bad , they're imo highly feminine right now (*points at booty curve*) and I'm not sure how many if any female players are on the team fxo ^^...
Such a good idea, I mean this is the nicest possible way, but the last shirt was horrible. Looked really cheap compared to other teams, hopefully you can get a good design from this, can I ask what FXO's brand colours are?
I prefer the lighter shirts so I came up with this design. I will edit later to add some trouser designs and a jacket design most likely user the darker (black, orange, silver) colour scheme.

Do you have the template for just the t-shirts anywhere? Havn't found any good versions

Really nice design, but I don't know if the FXOpen logo is in the right spot (my opinion)

Mhmm, it's the same spot used on their old design and it fitted well there, so I'm a little hesitant to put it elsewhere.
Let me know which colour you (the community) prefer. I kinda like the white ones. Once I know that I can start working from there and do some serious designing.
I know it's not the most artistic, but I did my best.
EDIT : I know mine can't be taken seriously, I just did it for fun cuz all these people are designing these amazing layouts, I can't even compete with T_T
Keep in mind that patterns should be "printable" some with crazy double color (idk what it's called but dark blue with mid dark blue with light blue and cyan blue in a same design patch are generally hard to do with shirt printing)
My grandparents have a fashion related business so i know crazy colors are a headache and often comes out less than desired compared to the nice and awesome design on drawing.
ALso Alexl~ trackpants are more professional :D Uniform = showing team bonding if people are wearing the same stuff keke.
Hi guys, long time lurker first time poster. It's quite messy and obviously unfinished (only the front, missing some details such as the razer logo and more detail in the pants).
Since the community is judging, looking for some feedback while I work on it.

Right one looks awesome. Much prefer the jacket opposed to a t-shirt in general for progammers.
Id say Ashraf is winning right now becuase he actually has all 3 pieces completed. Im really stoked to see more jacket designs. This is such an awesome idea FXO

This currently gets my vote! Really very well done!
As a side note I think FXO should definitely stick with the Orange (refering to OP).. whenever I think FXO the colour instantly pops into my head.
Only time I'll be pretentious, but the original design is better than almost all the others so far because most of them have:
1. Too many colors. 2. Too busy - one can only handle so many lines on a shirt.
I would say, Ashraf is a decent design if you're looking for some kind of Korean style tracksuit.
Isn't there an FXO shirt that Wolf sometimes wears in Code A casts that is just a large embroidered Logo1 (logo 2 should never be used on a team shirt by the way). Imo, you should just use the one Wolf was given or make minor changes to it.
The only reason the original design is "bad" is because the orange polygon makes it blocky (and to be fair, the shirts given to the players don't fit well, if you shrunk them a little bit for some of the players it would look a lot nicer). Just my opinion, I'm really picky on design..
I noticed a lot of people overcomplicate the shirts and add a lot of unnecessary colour and detail that would probably be lost after printing anyway. Try simplifying it and using striking patterns or geometry to create an effective look rather than piling on bunches of logos. Also the Razer logo only needs to be quite small.
I really don't know if I should open my photoshop again. I have lost all my brushes wich takes away from me the ability to do something really cool in 2 minutes LOL.
Really good t-shirts. As for jackets, would it be possible to get the same jackets as fOu but in different colours? If so, you should really go for them jackets but change the blue/black that fOu use to orange/black. The fOu jackets are the best looking jackets for sure.
wow, there are so many creative people out there. so many fantastic designs so far. well here is what i put together in paint. let me know what you think.

Give it a break its been half a day I'm sure the best quality designs will come in later
Edit: so far I am liking catz jacket, ashraf's tracksuits and loxleys designs.
Plan on designing a few when i get home from work. Great designs so far. As far as colors go, what does the community think of a black/red, black/green, or white/red/blue/yellow (i feel like red blue and yellow represent each race)? Or should i stick to the black/orange? Just give me some feedback. I have a few designs in my head and i cannot wait to get started.
It's not overly complicated and looks awesome, also like the jacket on it a lot with the razor logo on each arm and the big FXO logo right on the back, looks really cool.

If you wanna go for red, you should go for a different kind of red like on the SKT1 jackets I linked above. But stick to orange/black or red/black. I don't think 3 colours will work out so well.
There's at least 3 so far that I would have trouble choosing between because they're pretty awesome. Great job guys. Also, major props to FXOBoss for recognizing an amazing opportunity and taking advantage of the talent and fandom within the community for everyone's mutual benefit. Screw Leenock and QXC. Boss is now officially my favorite of everyone involved with FXO.
I think he was talking about the new shiny one. TBH my favorite team jacket was already the foU jacket so I would be psyched if they kept that and just changed around colours/logos. On the other hand the new oGs jacket isn't bad itself so something in that vein could only be nice. Of course skt1 jackets >>>> all but what u gonna do.
ahah thanks for everyone that likes mine xD when i was younger i had fun making football (soccer) jerseys with photoshop xp still need to make the pants xD trying to think on something that looks cool i dont want fxopen guys to look like clowns
This is a great idea but it hasn't been thought out enough.
None of these designs are usable in any of the forms people are posting because of this. Unless you were intending to take the winning design and get someone to try to copy it, which would be difficult if the design is detailed in any way.
I'd love to submit something for this but at the very minimum you need to give me:
1) Templates: You NEED appropriate templates for each piece of clothing in the design (in vector & raster form) This is obvious. Just as importantly, you NEED to include the Razer and FXO logo's in the same formats, or if don't have them, some kind of placeholder for them.
2) Acceptable formats You need to specify what you want: i.e- minimum of YYcm x ZZcm 300 dpi for a raster image or in appropriate vector format. Right now you have people scribbling with a pixel brush in paint which clearly isn't usable. 3) Some decent information. At the moment all you have said is needed is the 2 logos. All the designs right now are orange/black because this is the current theme for the kit. If you want this colour theme, say it. If you have no preference on colour, also say it (explicitly). Specifications > no specifications. I don't want to design a kit and find it completely disagrees with your intended vision (although you did say it would be chosen by the community which makes this less of an issue)

The bottom jacket is really nice looking. It's relatively unadorned, and tastefully displays the logo. I like the semi-funnel neck, which is Korean style fashion, and reminiscent of the fOu jackets. Simple goes a long way

What he's saying is that unless you plan on having a professional recreate the winning design with print quality, anything you get in this thread is going to be useless as far as manufacturing is concerned. They're not anywhere near high enough resolution and aren't on a printing template that could actually be used to make the shirts.
At the very least there needs to be an official vector version of the logo, or a raster version with a transparent background. Just so that people have full quality images and official colors to work with.

#1 and #2 are not optional. You need to do those.
#3 is less important, and was more a personal opinion.
These both look absolutely amazing, and they're not too complex to actually be useful (unlike some of the others). The shirt might be even more baller if it was a polo. Maybe give that a shot too Gizmo?

I like to do more than the t-shirt i made but im running in to the same problems as enigma stated here. The template for the jacket for instance, which kind? Hoodie, traksuit jacket, flight jacket etc etc.. Pants is the same. If you could provide us with some specs/templates - things would go a lot smoother/faster.

The logo isn't that important, they can supply that separately to the printer. A few templates would be very handy, but as long as it's not too far from what they're planning on using most of the designs so far wouldn't take that long to make in illustrator.
Another good aspect about supplying a template is that instead of people choosing what shirt they like based on how nice the template looks everyone's designs are on an even footing. From a purely design standpoint someone just colouring in a printed copy of the template with crayons should be on an even footing with someone who has a mastery of the computer -- unless they don't plan to have a professional go over the design first.
"Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."
It's fun to see what cool stuff you guys come up with and what you are able to do. I don't know how to use a program like that nor do I think I would be able to come up with an idea like that.
What I would like to contribute is an appeal for everyone to try and work together. Isn't the real goal here creating the final costume? Isn't the real challenge being able to work up to that final costume? The material prize is that one person gets a couple pieces of clothing, the real prize is the satisfaction of having created something amazing for thousands of people to enjoy.
I therefor think it's beneficial if those who judge or critique people's creations actually do so with the pursuit of these goals in mind and provide feedback to the designer or make "demands". Like which colors you dislike, what type of clothing is cool, if the logo is too big, you don't like the stripes, you think the circles are too thin.
Those kinds of things are probably far more valuable to those creating these costumes than saying it's cool, they can't do anything with that. But with honest feedback and critique as explained above, the designs can develop. They shouldn't be "just cool", or "has my vote", it should be the best it can be.
As for me, the only thing I had on my mind was to not just make space for the Razer logo but to look ahead in the future when more sponsor can surely be added in. When you put a big Razer logo on the sleeve, where would the additional sponsors be added? If you make it a smaller one then others can fit in later as well. Like in the form of a patch you can just stitch on for example. I guess you should try to dedicate an area on your design for that purpose. This is reasoned that doing it like that is acceptable and preferred over remaking everything. I honestly don't know how to look at that, because I can imagine there is something I have no clue about that makes it so you actually want to re manufacture the cloths when there is a new sponsor.
The other was just a personal preference. I greatly prefer the jacket style or a two or three piece. But especially the jacket part is very important. To give some an examples Slayers has the longsleave turtleneck then the blue shirt thing over that, and a blue puffy bomber jacket over that. oGs has the tracksuit, a black shiny jacket (parka it's called?) and now the new blue white design jersey type things. I don't know what IM had before but they did have those varsity jackets. fOu has the spacesuit ^_^.
Anyway a full package and some really prominent types of clothing is what I think suits the best. Best of luck to everyone who gets involved. Hope something truly amazing can be achieved.

I concur.
I'd like to join the fray, but as it stands right now- I shall take a pass and wish FXO and the people taking part in this event the best of luck.
I haven't finished looking at all of them, and there are many good ones, but so far this one is the only one that really really impressed me. I'll edit if I find an even cooler one =) but this one is awesome! Good work Gizmo.
More attention to design than the logo's.. wanted to keep it clean. And white seems like a bad colour for dirty gamers
This would have to be my second favorite so far, but once again, I'm only on page 7! I'll read the last few pages and maybe edit again =).
Also, I really like the jacked CatZ made. The only thing I would change is to put the Razer logo on one shoulder rather then both. The other can either be blank or have the FXO logo or something.
On July 20 2011 00:28 rotegirte wrote: haven't got too much time yet, here's a draft of the front
This one is very good so far too! Definitely a contender for the best shirt along with the other two I quoted, but we'll have to see how the rest of it comes out =)
Edit: One suggestion for this third one; maybe adding a collar would be a good idea? I like the more casual t-shirt style but for some reason I see this shirt as being more formal and high quality looking, while something like Gizmo's and Loxley's look better as a t-shirt. I don't know if that makes sense to you... but maybe just see how it looks if you're interested, lol.
Gizmo's is overall the best imo. Rotegirte's shirt is also amazing and would be really good for an 'alternate' jersey (sort of like the white/black ones they have now).
I have a thing for black/grey + white + orange. Black and orange will look good, if you put some white in it will get more contrastive (and aggressive). White and orange isn't very practical, white gets dirty fast and you're talking about shirts for nerds! :D
I actually like the sash (stripe). It's long enough for long names (longer than the width of your shoulders) and actually represents your rank in a sense, it's an identification .
I don't really have time to work on this too much because I'm at work (so no replays either). I really think FXO should break the mold a little and use a baseball style shirt
Obviously this is just a template, no real work has been done and it needs all the sponsor logos still, just kind of a base design I wanted to throw out there for others who have more time to work on this atm

Spoiled for choice we are it seems.
Putting a big razer logo on the back to compensate. Once I have my tablet I can really start working thinks out.
Can people not see the problems arising already with the issues I have mentioned?
Gizmo's designs are fine. They may well be contenders to win the contest, but the design itself is significantly improved by the templates he has chosen to display the designs on, and people are both conciously and unconciously reacting to this fact. This is why you need consistant presentation throughout, so that each designed can be compared without bias to whatever fancy background or template is used.
On top of my other comments, another one which has sprung to mind is the colour limit. Almost every apparel project starts with an idea of what printing processes are within budget, often defined by the number of colours being used. It may be relevant that if FXO wants to print something like this in GOOD quality for: http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg17/xPloSiV01/shirt1.jpg
Then they will have to pay through the nose for it. Maybe there is no budget and thats fine, but I think its worth mentioning.

I concur.
I'd like to join the fray, but as it stands right now- I shall take a pass and wish FXO and the people taking part in this event the best of luck.
Agreed as well. Also Enigma brings up a good point in his second post, in that people's opinions are already being swayed by templates and backgrounds when their focus should be on the designs.
its not my fault other people dont find good templates i focused on the design also and i used the first templates i found dont really care about them just made it for fun
why people like so much drama ? i thought this was a thing for fun

I definitely see what you are saying, I'd either wait for a response from FXO or just disregard it and try to make the best shirt you can. Like maybe for now they are just testing the waters to see what they get, and once they narrow it down to a few selections they will work out the details about printing costs etc. For now, I would take the lack of specification as freedom to do what you want and if they say there is an issue with it then adjustments can be made, although I agree that isn't the best way to go about it.

No ones blaming you. It's not your fault that people are easily distracted

i like gizmo's puffy jacket with turtleneck/laces but i dont think that jacket exists in shop. yeah, we need template. design may look cool but it will not look nice if we got crappy jacket/shirt template

i dunno if this was supposed to be taken THAT seriously i think its just a way to get community involved and have some fun and try some designs xp
Guys, when you Quote a design please put it in spoilers, there would be many more designs coming up and it would be a hassle to shuffle through them if this keeps up
Due to the lack of current specifications from FXO, Gizmo gets my vote - The shirt is simple and slick, the white vest is awesome (maybe I would downsize the logo on the back a bit though)
Loxley gets a mention as being my second pick. Straight to the point, clean shirt.
More attention to design than the logo's.. wanted to keep it clean. And white seems like a bad colour for dirty gamers
O.O My shirt design AGH!!!!!!!!! This was in my head but I was busy today with other things! Good job man I hope they choose this one because its stylish and works very well.

Can you move away from tracksuit pants? It really doesn't look that great, would prefer jeans.
Button up down the middle + collar in black with FXOpen logo somewhere and orange inner collar. Something like the below shirt + jean pants. Anything but track pants.
Almost all good looking uniforms have some texture, collars, button up, etc. Not just a plain t-shirt.

sick shirt right there, you got to be a bit more open-minded to love this one in comparison to some of the cleaner/safer designs, but i dig it.

maybe if it was orange instead of blue would be nicer :p
As a person with some experience in Silk Screening everything from maps (Dragon Age special edition) to thousands of tshirts, hoodies, pants etc etc. That tshirt would be hella difficult to make look nice because of the base color (light blue) there would be a alot of ink used and it would wear out quickly. But, if they got that shirt specially done so they didn't have to print on all the black it would be pretty awesome, if expensive.
All in all, awesome design, not economically feasible.
i didnt know that about ink but I was hoping the shirt would have different material. or jersey material like the broodwar kits. but i guess those are expensive too

I've already pointed out several things such as this which FXO haven't addressed. I'll be waiting to see if they can work out what they're doing before I start anything in Illustrator.

one thing that im noticing is that the razer logo should probably be on the front somewhere... somewhere so it will be viewable when they are playing in the booth
hey catz you should try one with a black background and see what that looks like... first ones look awesome... just curious what the black would look like

Personnally prefer the blue to the orange (and people are just going with orange because its the current colors, but like stated it can be anything). If not economically feasible, try to switch out the blue/orange for white, im sure it would look pretty damn sweet and be more doable.
To all the people wanting FXO Jackets to be like the old fOu ones: FXO Boss already stated earlier in the thread that they won't, they'll be more like oGs' Jackets.
Help me build up some peer pressure so Boss will give away fOu windbreakers to the 2nd and 3rd place ;3
I have posted a simple template. And am somewhat experienced in getting merchandise printed. Its up to people to show me what they have got. Rather than me to hand feed everything to them. After all it is a competition. And in the end I can make whatever is the winner, work. At least for 1 round of merchandise (I do a round every 1-2 months)
With my relationships nothing would be overly expensive, however I would like to keep things relatively simple. There are 1 or 2 in here that wouldn't work in terms of simplicity. However the cost is irrelevant.
On top of this, although I have already got a supplier for the oGs like jackets (not the shiny one). I am open minded if someone can blow my mind Tracksuit tops are possible, such as TSL's. I still would like a professional jacket though, like a snow jacket because it gets freakin cold in Korea.
These both look absolutely amazing, and they're not too complex to actually be useful (unlike some of the others). The shirt might be even more baller if it was a polo. Maybe give that a shot too Gizmo?
+1 to this one. There needs to be a poll after a week or so. But Gizmo's is my fav.

Hmmm I'm thinking bright pink latex jumper suits would do well.
Or for serious, maybe a deep purple dress shirt~with a small FXO slogan threaded in above the breast pocket.
Covered by a high collared Letterman jacket (black and orange). The race symbol on the right arm, personalized SC handle below. On the left arm have the FXO slogan, above the right breast pocket have the bullbear and razer logo.
Beneath that some casual black dress pants. The Bullbear in small on the right side right below the belt line.
Remember, less is more. The smaller the writing, the more attention will be drawn to it. Make it the smallest visible from ~20 feet away for maximum affects. Ideally you want your players to look professional, attractive, but still advertise FXO and Razer. I'll try to edit some basic pics.

If it is winter jackets you want you guys should really try to go for something fluffy like the SKT1 jackets in red I posted a few pages back. I know StarTale has them too but in blue . So fully orange or black/orange could be pretty sick. And they would work outside of Korea too when you are going to tournaments in Europe and America during fall and winter because they will be needed. :D
I'm not trying to be overly critical because I think this contest is a really great idea, but...
I don't understand why logos are "up to the community to find." If it were my company, I'd want to provide official, full-quality versions of my own logo so people don't have to hunt around on the internet finding one with a transparent background. That has nothing to do with "creativity," it just makes more work for the people trying to enter your contest.
As far as the templates are concerned, that's not as much of an issue until the voting I think. It's unfair to have designs on different templates being pitted against each other, but as long as the designers have an opportunity to use an official template before the end of the contest, it's not a big deal in the middle creative stages.
I dont get it, why does every time team have sweatshirts and sweatpants for their team jerseys? Why has noone tried to do something else, perhaps something more classy like a suit or something of the sort?

guess its cause its more confortable xp
It's not like a shirt and trousers of decent quality are uncomfortable :x. And the suit can be taken off while playing if it restricts, much like the sweatshirts often are.
rotegirte looks cool but i wouldnt really like to wear it looks like some 3 division swedish team jersey or smthing or some amateur team xD maybe its the colours dunno
really cool idea by FXOBoss to let the community participate in the design, and so far i can see a very talented bunch of people Hope whatever the design is you gonna be selling those
Well this gets my vote so far, I'd loooove this haha. good job man!
Looks good indeed but what's up with the number on the back?
Players get numbes :p
I really like the idea of team shirts, having numbers with the name on the back, clean--w/o the FXO tag.... they're wearing the team gear, we don't need to double up the clan tag.
I can wait to see the pants and a sick jacket. I want these shirts, and that's coming from a guy who isn't much of an FXO fan
The thing I've found, in my limited experience, is that you only really get a truly blank slate when you're working with t-shirts. Track pants/jackets are likely to be pre-styled in some simplistic way (like the color patterns on the startale pants), then you add your logo and text to that.
I'm nothing of a designer, but if practicality was my concern, I'd find a sweet tracksuit online and then customize it. If nothing else, you can go get it done for yourself!

I have no intention to participate mostly due to complete lack of artistic skills but I do feel like the Razor logo should be on the sleeve (like GizmomcS' design) since that's one of the only spot on the shirt (beside the front) that'll almost always be visible (and I'm assuming that's what sponsors want). Anywhere near the bottom of the shirt, or the back, seems like a bad idea. Having the Razor logo on the front of the shirt (especially the top-ish part) usually ends up making the shirt too 'crowded'.
Just my 2 cents, some of you guys obviously know what you're doing. Good work so far, that was fun to go through.
Gizmo's design is fantastic, really liking that one.
FXOpen, please sell merchandise, teams selling merchandise is a step in the right direction for becoming more mainstream. Seriously can you imagine huge football team's not selling their merchandise?

ye i gave a lot of thinking to the logos cause ultimatly the logos of the brands should be clear and visible
and also cause when they are playing they will be sitting logos should be on top part ye i thought lot about that xp
everything looks just amazing, love the white/orange combination of the jacket and the shirt looks really good aswell. A collar could be added, but as it is now, i don't see anything that's wrong with it. Also found a nice place for the razer log Runner Up: Loxley Very clean shirt, simple but nice the arrows pointing to the head.. mwah.. not necessary, but also not annoying. The razer logo on the back looks nice but i agree that it's not the best place for a sponsor , since you hardly get a shot of the players backs
Gizmo I love your design. The shirts are clean with some sweet details to make it look really cool. Not too much stuff, just great use of the logos and color theme which draws the eye to the right places. I hadn't noticed that bull in the logo but it looks perfect on the lower back there.
Your jackets are so kick ass I would like to order one right now. I really hope FXOBoSs consider these amazing designs, I'm quite sure these jackets would win over some new fans all by themselves.
The pants are also good. Someone said earlier they were too simple but I disagree. The pants are just an accessory which shouldn't take to much attention from the team shirts and jackets.

I'll be honest I'm a bit surprised by the attention Gizmo's submission is getting, although don't mistake this for criticism.
Since BosS said this will be voted on by the community I'd like to ask: What are people looking for in these designs? I was thinking people would be looking for something which is at least as detailed/colourful as the new oGs shirts, but apparantly not.
Do people really just want plain clothes with only logos on them? Kinda ruins my plans for some serious vector illustration if thats the case

imo, i dont want a shirt to be too plain, but it shouldnt be all flowery and rainbow colored. it should have a professional BW team look imo. the fabric is important as well.

You obviously have a creative flare, and a knowledge of design. Trust yourself, put up a design (if thats what you were planning on doing) and basically people will vote on it. I wouldn't worry too much about how specific you want to get. My taste and the communities taste are very different, so you may end up doing a design that i personally like and might print as well. The winner of course will be printed etc, but if i found something to be good, sometimes its too hard to pass up. IF you get my drift.

I think this is the best shirt so far. At first I liked Gizmo`s but then I realized it is a bit plain and doesn`t really stand out as a team jersey. I understand where he is coming from though because his is more conservative as in what people would actually wear.
Gizmo has the best jacket though, assuming FXO could find a supplier for that kind of collar and such.

No, just awareness that there's usually something I'm not thinking about.

Gizmo's getting attention because his design is both appealing and well-presented. Pretty simple! Tastes vary, but quality is obvious.

I'll probably end up doing something which has several levels of complexity and see how it goes down, so it should appeal to a range of people I guess.
I know you said that templates were up to us to find, and when it comes to T-shirts and trousers, I think most templates are going to be fine so no problems there. I do think for the jacket though, you need to direct us towards a template of sorts simply because of the huge range of styles that exist. Just knowing the collar, cuffs and whether it has a zip are fairly important.
Hopefully this will be possible. If not we can all use Gizmo's template because that jacket does look very warm and cosy!
EDIT: @Gizmo that old Holland jersey is pretty awesome!

ye you are right about the jacket if it had no zip i would put the logo horizontaly and not verticaly
I think what people like is gizmo's coat design. And I also think most of it has to do with the template. The back design is simple and clean and works actually. I really like it. But I don't think finding a coat that matches that design will be easy. The material I would like to see in the coat is soft cotton and not thin cotton, pretty thick and comfortable. It can easily degrade over time, but its comfortable right?
Either that or its a jacket with nylon which also works I guess. It's just not soft and tend to be more rugged and won't fit the body well. It won't look the same with nylon.
When designing a shirt, I want it to be ostentatious but also professional.
A plain black t-shirt with some letters won't do at all. When looking from afar, people won't know you're some random guy or a freakin badass FXO member.
I put color into consideration, finding a theme with some decent contrast. The new OGS shirts are very nice and gets the job done nicely. I'd like the new FXO kit to be as good. These t-shirts are to advertise your brand and if people can't recognize you're from FXO, then it would be meaningless to put all those logos on it. You need to attract attention with the shirts while staying professional.
I chose black/blue/orange. light blue and orange are good compliments and the black is to keep the design together and professional. Most of the lines are straight for this reason also.

lol dont worry man i love holland jerseys i favourite colour is orange xD
and about what other people are saying i dont really think light blue fits FXOpen style :s i took a look at their website and their drift cars etc to get inspiration for my stuff :X
I don't consider gizmo's designs boring, they're easily my favourites so far, looks really professional and nice! Great stuff.
I'm not really a fan of orange/black in general though. Like the poster below me says, wouldn't mind seeing some designs in other colours Like Manchester united always has alternate jerseys in different colours, would be pretty cool!
There are no constrains, therefor you may do whatever you want to do Because of the old style FXO shirts everybody tries to stay close to the colours, but that doesn't mean that other colours are bad. More diversity creates more innovation in the designs

Omfg I'm so hyped up to see the topic with all the pictures side by side to choose one! there are so many and honestly I couldn't choose a favorite if I'm not seeing them all together to make an objective opinion.
My current jacket design is a black snow jacket, with the FXO logo on the back, embroided, and razer logo on the shoulder. ITs plain simple and it looks very nice. I wouldn't really over complicate a jacket unless it was a tracksuit top. Then its worth designing something more creative.

Any chance it will have the fOu collar? It would be a cool gesture.

ye thats what i thought when you first said jacket was ogs style there not really much you can do its black put a logo and its done thats why for mine i made more of a tracksuit style hope its ok x3
I really like Gizmo's design. Like others have said it is very clean, and something you could wear outside of just a competition atmosphere. I would love to purchase an outfit such as this.
Hey guys have you tried any other pieces of male fashion other than a bomber jacket and puffer jacket? Maybe we could try something different, like a military jacket. Or a training jacket.
Just throwing out some ideas. There's more to clothes than just the cosmetic design.
regarding the number, well to be honest I just wasn't too sure how to occupy that space. your second thoughts about displaying sponsors led to placing the razor logo on a more visible spot. undecided whether on the left or right side though..
Excuse the bad quality, i just took what i could fing on the internet . Just having some fun with it atm, will probably do some more tomorrow and some more with trousers etc. But for now, sleep time
FXOpen T-Shirt Idea the image doesnt seem to be loading, maybe its just me... just in case here is link
Explanation: thrown together pretty fast, but the basis of my design was to get the logo on the side, where the player would be seen from a camera if playing a game, from either left or right
the logo and moto on the front, obviously the back would be the same with FXO'Name'
tried to keep a little bit of the old shirt with the diagonal motion, but also take it away from the old one with the change of color
the razer logo could go back to green, thats just the one i found first
and... i think the logo(image not name) of the race the player plays would be a unique atribute that i havent really seen on other teams (correct me if im wrong), would give people who dont know the players race (not like a fan wouldnt know)
Pants + Jacket Idea: the pants would keep the overall color of dark blue, with the black/orange dual stripe on the side, FXO Logo on the front and have the players race again on the pants but not the logo, the name( ex: zerg/terran/protoss instead of the logo), on the ass, like one of those pairs of sweat pants that girls wear that says PINK
the jacket would be mostly black, with an orange stripe around the shoulderblades and the race logo on the back under their name/team name, the razor and fxo logos still on the shoulders, id try to make the jacket color scheme match the shirt, so id probably add in the dark blue in some variation
BUT i havent actually made the images for pants/jacket, just have ideas
If it wasn't a commercial design project I would do this for fun, but I'm a professional and I've already given my fair share of freebies out to the business community. I'll vote for the shirt that looks the most professional, as that is what a team sponsoring businesses should be; professional.
Gah! I'm working on mine but there are so many variants, I don't know how you guys can post one and be like WELL HERE IT IS! I'm not much of a graphic designer, it's mostly a hobby for me but I can't design something without making and saving 15+ different version with subtle to major changes, and then when I look at them it's like "well they're all good, but they're all missing something each". I currently have 9 variants for the front and about 10 for the back, I'm just trying to reconcile the difference into something I like and I think other people would like. Also, super awesome contest from FXO, the prize is soo unreal!

Wau, you guys can draw... unfortunatly my drawing skills are on paper only, so I had to just use MS pain and come up with this, My idea is simple. black shirts from the old uniform looked good, but the stripe in front really killed it my Idea is twisting the orange wave from the lower left side on the back, up and up, crossing over the chest as you can see tinning it self out untill it reaches the left sleave The right sleave is still blac and clear for additional sponsors Front is divided by the stripe accross the chest as you can see, having the name-tag of the player on the right side of the chest, and the logo on the left side. Made out of cotton, with standard printing . None of that syntetic shiny fabric, its the biggestkiller of the last t-shirts Simple hits hard. I am not a fan of team pants, and the jacket should just bear a logo and the player name in my oponion I guess I can re-draw itby hadn like it should look soon and scan the pictures, but it will take me a bit Hope you like it
I have to echo Enigma's point that people voting are likely to be swayed more by the packaging than the design its self. I think some designs (CatZ in particular) was a very nice simple look which is probably getting overlooked because of how plain the template its self looks.
As such, here are the vectors used by GizmoPT, if anyone likes any other templates in particular I'll do my best to track them down too.
To change the colours etc in photoshop make a new layer set to "multiply" and colour on top of it. If you have illustrator you can get some much nicer results.
My photoshopping skillz aren't great, but I love FXO so I had to make some anyway. :D
I didn't know exactly what kind of shirt/jacket/pants are more desirable, so I just chose a fairly plain base so the design could be put on something else easily. If people have constructive crit for me, I can always revise it. ^_^

To me, it looks like you switched concepts, and the shirt design would make an awesome jacket, whereas the jacket design looks more like a shirt.
Pants are sweet, but you don't need the ankle-level writing.

Pants and shirt on the way.
Imgur link(Not Mine): Really good work on that one. It might be my favorite. The FXO logo on the front would look VERY good with a very small black border around it so that there is no light orange on white.
Overall, I think this jacket along with Gizmo's shirt are the best.
So here's what I got I guess, you know I uploaded like 5 different shirts and each time I previewed it and I was like NAW THAT LOOKS LIKE SHIT because I tried to imagine someone like Sheth or Moonglade wearing the shirt and then went right back to Illustrator / Photoshop, design is so frustrating man. So this is most likely isn't the final version of what I want to present, probably gonna toy around with the design, maybe remove the lines for something better / easier to print. Please give me some constructive criticism!
FXO is an international team and as such I feel that having an area for a flag makes the players feels more apart of the international side of things, it's also a plus for like Korean fans or foreign fans who can found out on the spot "oh my gosh, that person from MY COUNTRY, i'm going to root for them so hard!"
The Razer Logo and the flag are meant to be on the shoulder side of things where the shirt wraps around the side of your arm.
And yeah...

I mean I can, I vectorized both logos through live trace and fixed the rest by hand. If BoSs is cool with it I'll post the logos and stuff.
BoSs is gonna have a hard time picking. You all are a creative bunch and have come up with some great designs! I know where to make a thread if I ever created I team.
Here's my finished entry. Aimed for some serious cohesion between the pieces, which I think is the most important part. If the entire package looks good as a whole, the individual pieces will look good on their own, as long as you design with cohesion in mind.
Thanks for looking. Enjoy!

i respect that your dont like them but i dont think they are silly or out of place lol xp
i just didnt want to go with the default Adidas / Nike patterns everyone is going for xP
my original idea was exactly like elysion did it lol but i thought it would be even more generic than mine xp but i like it they use stuff like that a lot on soccer also that design makes the guys look like they have bigger chest muscles lollol

normally flags would need to be on chest on the side of the heart to honour the countries and not on people back xD

IMO the best so far in terms of colouring, most of the rest in just a logo on a template and a stripe here and there. The problem is that FXOBoss doesn't understand that in order to design a shirt you need to have a specific template and you need to know your limitations. It's like trying to design a racing car without knowing the specific type of a car. One person can work with Honda, other with Škoda, but FXO is going to use BMW in the end.
These ones will actually work as well, as in the guy printing them won't be completely pissed off and go on a rant about "creative designers" once they're sent to the print shop. If some of the earlier flashy designs get picked, I pity the printer who has to deal with the registration for those multi color prints that bleeds off the sides and the bottom of the shirt like some of them. Proper registration (having your color layers line up perfectly) is next to impossible when you are laying the shirt flat instead of putting it on a pallet.
If they do get printed I'd be interested to see how the registration is, and even more interested to know how they pulled it off.

Yeah, I don't get this either. I would buy Gizmo's jacket in a heartbeat and I'm only truly a fan of Leenock when it comes to FXO players. It looks good, it's sporty, and it supports ESPORTS! Way more interesting clothing than a random Adidas/Jinx/whatever print. Same goes for the Startale jacket, the old Slayers shirt and winterjacket and the oGs windbreaker. Prime had some cool stuff too (obviously I'm not mentioning any BW teams since that is just obviously sick nerd baller stuff all of it).
Started to work on my designs last night. I am still wondering what everyone here feels about a color change instead of the standard black/orange white/orange? Would anyone be bothered by a different color scheme?
Best designs so far are ElySioN, GizmoPT, and Modernist. ElySioN's sweatshirt/jacket is probably my favorite. GizmoPT's shirt design is one of my favorite i do like the design for the jacket but i still like the sweatshirt/jacket better. Perhaps you could have both a jacket like GizmoPT and a sweatshirt like ElySioN's i'm sure the players would also enjoy that as well. Modernist design for incorporating the bull/bear into the fxo is a really sweet idea and he has pretty sweet designs over all for everything.

I completely agree! The combination of ideas and everyone that had a major contribution should get a shirt maybe not the whole kit depending on how much it cost. I know exclusivity is the key to the prize but leaving out the other great ideas would be a major misstep imo.

Hi I'm Modernist, longtime TL lurker and graphic design enthusiast. :D
My entry to the FXO Design Comp. is based around a new logo that I created for the team. The logo is a combination of the Bull/Bear logo and the FXOpen wordmark.
For the uniform, I wanted to create something clean and professional. Here it is:
Jacket:

Some companies don't like it when you mess with their logo, I learned from personal experience. It does look great thou.

Actually i didn't add lines or stripes not that dont like it, i think that stuff dont go with this type of things idk its my opinion, like frequency said "Simplicity" i prefer that too.
And yes, could be better, Design is like an opinion or phrase that u can change it and change it but like i said i like the simplcity.

Hello Everyone :D I want to thank FXO for opening up this opportunity for the Team Liquid community. I, for one, think it is a great idea. This is an amazing community with a ton of talent (as displayed in all submissions so far ^_^) I wish the best for everyone who has entered and to FXO in the future. Here is my attempt at the contest. Any and all feedback would be fantastic! GLHF everyone!
Dont think the grey works in this. The text drowns, to mix grey into black/white, all in same. It needs a smoother look. X is cool. Razor logo should be black / green imo

FXO logo split when opening jacket, not good. Razor logo not visible enough, orange / white kinda disappears. Also, think Razors logo should stay as original black/green. And it's too blank/empty for my taste.

Dont know about the blue, really throws things off. Though the front of T-shirt might work, maybe a slightly thinner strip. (where did you get the blue from anyway?) Logos on pants, horrible. Hoodie looks cool though. Logos need work, seems like you just placed them where white and space for your hoodie.

This is the best integration of Razer branding I've seen so far. Love the shirt. The jacket looks a little disproportionate.

im sure he is cheating putting white ra face in there..... lol :p
Tried to keep it simple, appealing, "on the move/sport..ish" and easy to recognize/remember and overall subtle elements that make the difference. Something that i would personally not be ashamed of waring on the street for example, on the contrary, get good feedback.
I picked Moonglades nickname because i consider it to be the longest name in the team, so if it fits the t-shirt, any nickname will :D
Keep in mind i wanted to bring forth the team primarily, then razer, not the other way around. They might be sponsors, but U are the team that represents them at GSL. There's a subtle difference.
Really hope u guys like it. Also any kind of feedback is always appreciated, considering u can't always nail down the best design suitable for everyone.
I will try to make the following day the rest of the gear u wanted and also upload it.
*Image uploaded via ImageShack, hope it doesn't disappear ** Also because of the webserver upload, some of the quality doesn't match the one i made. Keep in mind that there's the razer logo also in the center-front-back.
This is the best one so far, this one totally gets my vote.

FXO should totally use business suits as their "jersey;" it represents what FXO is as a company, will "peacock" and leave a lasting impression, *and* looks good and will feel comfortable (if the right materials are used).
Ha ha. I don't know about suits, but I think something stylish like a graphic v-neck and a casual blazer would look tight. Oh, and matching sunglasses. Not aviators, though, those are tacky. Something more contemporary, like wayfarers.
Something like that, but with a v-neck tee with a giant fxo logo instead of a shirt and sweater, and patches on the jacket arms with the players name and sponsors, and with a big stylized bull/bear logo on the back (without the fxopen logo, that could be a patch). The razer logo could go on the shoulder opposite the patches.
I still can't believe how freaking sick all these submissions are. FXO is gonna look straight nerdballer. And as a side note I really dig esports hoodie style jackets.

I really like the shirt. The jacket and pants are a little too intense for me. The orange color is a little hard on the eyes. Maybe make it like the shirt and put white instead of orange and separate the black and white with an orange stripe.

Here ya go bub. I think I may actually like that better than the orange too...
Are there any required fields?... (the FXOpen logo, the bull/bear... the slogan, and the FXOpen e-sports bit...) and also...are there any specific places you guys are wanting those things (FXOpen logo front and center... Persons Name Back center... Etc.) thanks really awesome that you guys are letting the community in on something like this!!! =D
Designed to be complex and eye catching especially at a distance, while simple to produce.
All three pieces can be produced via 2-color Silk screening, while the option exists for a more complex screening of the Jacket-Back Logos.
I also wanted to incorporate a uniform set of patches in to the design in such a way that it would encourage the inclusion of other patches later, at the discretion of the team (e.g. Acheivements, Season participation, etc).
This one actually made me stop designing my own...
I want FXO to wear this uniform, whether I get a shirt or not. My only critique is I would only want 1 razer logo on the shirt/jacket instead of one on each arm, maybe move the logo up to the shoulder on the jacket, it looks funny on the wrist =P

The shirt looks cool but I noticed you did the top front of the shirt wrong, the point of the black/orange is coming over the wrong shoulder it wraps around the right shoulder on the back and comes over the left shoulder on the front.
That's a good point... same issue with the jacket. You need to mirror the backsides of both. (I think the bottom of the shirt is fine, just switch the top on one side).

I'm absolutely shocked at the lack of attention this one is getting when it's clearly the best so far.
I really hope that FXO chooses a design like this one. It looks like something a ball player/coach or college athlete would wear during warmups. Which is to say, it looks more professional than a lot of the other designs. The patterns which stretch across the back of the shirt and onto the other side are more modern I suppose, but I don't think they would look quite right to a general audience. Just my opinion though.
first shot at the shirt, more to come... Still working on jacket and pants. (i'm thinking large FXO logo on back of jacket along with razer name and logo below - possibly small razer logo on front)

Ok updating my thoughts on things i really like Achaia's shirt design but ElySioN still has the best sweatshirt design! I still think it would be cool if FXO decided to pick multiple winners and just have one combined bad ass uniform.
Created by iMMortaL. Tell me what you think. I will edit this further. The jacket will be posted later today. I have not looked at any other entries. If this is similar to anyone's entry, it is purely coincidental.
Holy shit, for me it is unbelievable what passion about something can achieve. If you have a business you know how difficult it can be to make people work as much as you guys do. There are sooo many beautiful designs that are worth to be chosen. If FXO had a clothing business they could outsource their design department to TL with some "cheap" (in terms of costs) contests.
freaking great designs! all of them! looking forward seeing the FXO-players in one of those...this will be a huuuuge upgrade from the existing one's. also - pretty good idea to involve the community! FXO ftw!
Wow, I like it a lot . I'm not sure about making the jacket mainly white (for practicality) but it should go nicely with the shirts no. 1 and 3. And as you've said, this REALLY needs some limitations from FXO in terms of colours and print quality .

Mate this is actually quite good. Not as good as Enigmas, but one of the best here. well done mate
Enigma, yours is by far the best. The light blue works really well with the orange and the white jakcket really brightens it up (and contrasts the black shirts well). I know the OP says the logo has to be on everything, but I think it's stupid to have logos on the pants. The FXO in the stripe is really cool, but I don't like the bullbear/razer logo. I mean, when is a player going to be wearing just the pants without the rest of the uniform? And if they were, they're probably not somewhere important. So just a thought, maybe make a version without the pocket logos. Also, I think you have some really good ideas, but you tend to over complicate things a bit. I would go with a design that you think works well, but not because it's complex. Simple can be good. And one more pet peeve. I think the bull/bear logo would look better below the FXo slogan. I think it makes better use of the space and opens the design up a bit.
Well, to be honest I don't think mine is the best submission in terms of a team jersey look, but that is mostly because I decided to go with a more artistic style to it to keep it more casual yet still stand out. It isn't finished as I still plan to do the reverse in the same style featuring a bear instead of a bull to combine their logo more into the design but it's still presentable. I don't really have intention to design a jacket or pants, just doing the shirt because it gave me inspiration and an idea.
Model image from Threadless Submission Package.
Also, I went ahead and uploaded a higher quality version of the FXO logo for anyone to use on this project. It's in a print format so no fancy gradients in it, but if you're doing this you should be expecting to be limited on colors. It's not their actual logo, just a trace of a lower quality version to the best of my ability.
Anyway, hope you guys like the concept and find some use for the logo if you've been starved for a higher quality version.

Hey, thanks for comment, it's appreciated. I definitely tread along the line of more rather than less because removing stuff a lot less effort than adding something new If for example, people like the first shirt design, but think the blue blend-lines down the side are too much, it takes me 3 seconds to delete them. This also ties in with why I can't just sit down and do 1 design for each piece of clothing. I want people to look at my sheet and see choice and room for manipulation- a complete workflow- not just the exact pixels in fron of them.
I agree with both your logo suggestions, although I can't remove the tracksuit logos as this just breaks the specification for the design. (I could try moving them though)
After all the demands from enigma, I must say I'm completely disappointed. FZero was a cool game, but it's time to move on.
Im afraid I can't account for everyones taste in style or design, although I'm open to constructive criticism- it's more useful to me than disappointment or insult.

Not for a team uniform, but it's really cool regardless. I think if the bull/bear logo under FXOpen was taken off and it just had "FXOpen" and the bull down the bottom it would look better. Maybe I'm wrong though :D

commandokablamo's design is very sleek, athletic. Perhaps it would do well with a splash of color.
I like ElySioN's jacket design too, except for razer on the hood.
There's a difference between demands and reasonable requests. It's unreasonable to have a design competition without providing proper resources.

Yeah, as mentioned before it certainly isn't a jersey type look and as such wouldn't be particularly appropriate for what is being looked for. Possibly more for a shirt that supporters of the team itself could wear instead while still having a stylish look to them.
As for the logo behind the logotype, it wouldn't be hard to do a version without, I just felt that brand recognition was important so I kept it in there subtly.
Glad both of you like it in some form or another though, even if it isn't in line with the competition rules.

I would say SlaveR has the best kit so far.. Because he is the first one to design the right kind of jacket that FXO said that they were going to use! And also, It's a great design!

and keep in mind, that proper winter jackets as boss requested are likely much harder to be customized... you'll see sewn on patches at best.
now I am of course not 100% sure on that (since money can buy almost everything), but some jacket designs i've seen so far could definitely cost a small fortune to produce...
One thing I was going to point out, which everyone makes due to over using symmetry, the arm/sleeve logos really should be shifted towards the front by about 1 inch. Since a lot of this is for display reasons, it should be biased to either the front or the back. It's almost never fully readable in any Video or Still shots, mostly because 100% side-view is a really crappy shooting angle.
Because of the way most Video angles are shot, the area from the pecs up to the head and the front 2/3 of the sleeves are visible. This is the general "money" area for design and logos. So the higher-set logos like Neonaticide's really work better for media & visual presence. While logos at the bottom/sides of shirts can look nice, they aren't normally seen that much.
I ended up not really having time (then forgetting when I did, oops) to get a design done, but I did want to point out a functional design aspect that's generally overlooked. Most team shirts have this problem, which makes them look nice for the group-photos, but don't really have a visual distinction (or mark out their sponsors) when the player is on camera for a head-shot (which is actually most of the time they're on camera).
Sooo after seein all the well made Layouts i was encouraged to do one for FXO as well. Actually this one has a Story and a reason for beeing as it is. so FXO basicly is a Business and what is the most business thing ever? Pinstripes - i heard they like em so i did put some in the layout ^^.
gu`anti, I like your jackets + pants. Not so sold on the basic t-shirts. They seem a little too "busy". But jacket is really awesome. (Though pretty expensive to make, haha)

This is a silly idea. How can you get people to design a kit and then end up voting for 3 pieces of clothing potentially from 3 separate designers. The whole point of this is that you're able to construct a complete image for the team which is consistant across the outfit. ____
Will FXO be shortlisting the top 5 or so designs- how exactly will the winner be chosen?

Can just do Jacket + Pants together & shirts separate, like Prime or fOu used to do.
Not exactly the same, but your jacket looks pretty damn similar to Gizmo's. Maybe it's just a case of great minds thinking alike because both jackets are damn sexy.
Thanks for the nice words and input guys. Really made me think about the total look again so i changed the Jersey. About the Concern of Price, trust me its done in Sublimationscreenprint so it doesnt matter how much is on it.

Thanks, and yeah I just found the pic and created that because the only designs I looked at were Hyulik's and Enigma's. There's a lot of great stuff here.

Also, someone needs to design a Bandana for Qxc.
Thanks for the tip I was just going off the fact that most of the GSL booths are from a 3/4 shot and they always have sponsors on the outside of the sleeve. I will look into moving it around for better viewing and FXO if needed can make that small adjustment :D Thanks again for the feedback

They do have sponsors on their sleeves. Problem is that they're dead center on the sleeve, so you can't actually read them. Which leaves you with 1/2 words and, if you don't know what they are, you're sitting there trying to google it because you're confused. It doesn't have to be shifted too far forward, just about 1 inch would cover it. On paper, it doesn't look as good, but the images are more noticeable and they actually sit naturally, once you've put a shirt on.
If you want some reference points, American Football, when they're remembering or celebrating something, puts the patches on the front-side of the shoulder pad. There's a reason they do that, as it's always visible in a front-shot.
I went ahead and got my design to a bit more of a finished level. I did do it somewhat in a team shirt style with the name in the back but I'm thinking of possibly replacing that with a snake to represent more of the Razer logo.
Model from Threadless Submission Package
Hey, that's not mOOnGLaDE! D:
I might consider putting this design up somewhere to actually be printed after this though, not sure as of yet. Obviously without the FXO branding if I did that though. I hope you all like it in some form or another though. :D
I made this a couple of days ago, i was going to do a jacket and pants too but i got busy and dint get a chance. I thought i would throw this up anyway though since the deadline is tonight. I tired to make it simple, and i changed the logo around alittle. Like 0neder said the old one isnt very strong.
MetalLobster - "This one looks great!! I would buy this in no time."
Thank you! I am glad you like it!
Andamanen - "I agree, keep it simple. I particularly like the jacket by Neonaticide."
I am glad you like the jacket. I did keep the design simple and clean. I didn't want to distract the eye too much from the main focus of the articles of clothing. I see A LOT of really nice designs that I like but feel there is just too much going on. Thanks for the compliment! ^-^
Lutto - "Looks really great!! really awsome work, its simple stylish and so got damn cool i want one naow!"
Haha! I really would love to have one as well, maybe I can if I win Lot's of other great designs to compete with though. Thanks for the kind words!
On July 25 2011 08:37 0neder wrote: Too bad we can't redesign the FXO logo as well. That thing is a mess of muddy gradient firefox knockoff. I'm pumped, though, look for myine later.
It would be too expensive to use the gradient version of the logo anyway as silk screening uses one color application, so doing a gradient isn't possible unless you do halftone dots. There are more expensive options for making gradients work but I doubt they'll go that far with it, I could be wrong however.
My attempt, The name would go on bottom portion, the design would follow on to the back. In a similar circle on the back, there would be the razer logo. The brownish orange would bring out the green in the razer logo.
The jacket would have a similar design (full body yin yang) but inverted, so that it would really amazing in full set.
Submitting this.. I'm in the middle of moving so it's not quite finished just yet but I don't want to miss the deadline. Hopefully I'll get it cleaned up and my other ideas uploaded before the deadline.
Here's my design! I really wanted to emphasize the contrast of colours in the logos presented, and use their shapes to create the overall flow of the design.
Note: I know they're not the most polished piece of concept, so if by chance you choose my submission, I will be happy to give you what you need (smoother lines, better layout, etc).
Really sloppy photoshop job, but you get a good feel for what the FXO brand could be. Here's my approach:
- Mid-tone grays (blacks and whites are too common, this is a nice unique neutral) - Slighty more reddish orange, but still unique to other teams' reds. - Neutral with smaller splashes of orange - it is a very strong color and the current uniforms just have way too much of it. Very sporty like a futbol jersey, less like something samwise or the comic-book guy from Simpsons would wear (no-offense). - Smaller logos for a more professional feel. - FXO logo integrated with zipper band on jacket. - Player name visible on front as well as back of jersey (how often do you see the back of the jersey during the game?) - Bull/Bear logo not shown in this concept. I'd like to refresh the logo, but ran out of time. If it had to be on the unis, I'd put it on shoulder patches (side of shoulder, not front). I think it looks quite nice without it, though.
When is the deadline? now? 12 hrs? 24? I'd like to work on a similar direction with a color to replace orange, since so many teams have colors close to that already (IM is yellow/red, Prime is Red, Startale is Red and Yellow, and TSL is Red and White). I think a more unique color can really make the FXO brand stand out in the SC2 scene. Stay tuned.
FWIW, I'm a professional product designer for Altec Lansing that dabbles in branding and logos. There are some pretty fun ideas here, but I wanted to go for something that looked professional, sporty, and as good as the best BW unis, and I think this fits the bill.
P.S. You could make the jersey's orange if you want, that's a lot of orange though. Stay tuned for colorway 2.
Green would be a great color for FXO. It stands for Money and ties in with FXO's motto. It's unique in the Korean SC2 scene. It's less polarizing than orange, but less common than red/blue.
Jeah 0neder the idea is good to keep it clean and simple and also create a different and unique layout to standout of the crowd but i think especially businesses like to be represented in there respective Colors.
Besides: does anyone have a clue when they will announce the winner?

Yes, it is. =)
Also guys, part of a designer's job is to show a client options they may not have considered. That's why I presented the original colorway and did extras, to illustrate how different (yet good) FXO's brand could be in the SC2 scene. It's not always about what the client wants, but about what's best for their business, and those can, but don't always correlate.

I think the Teal is actually the best option. Though my text design instinct say they need a neutral border color on the text, if they don't contrast enough with the background.
And, how did I botch up "movie" for "money", oy.
I think BoSs or Frequency will probably make a poll? Not sure.

But you only show the Client options if your a) not okay with what he wants because you know it will be bad (like a bright red and green layout) b) your sure the changes will enhance the visibility of the Brand
problem with this currently is that the team of FXO is bound to the colors of the Company, the Company is already established with the look and colors and is known in theese colors. It's basicly like trying to offer Razer to go from green to yellow because its different.

There are so many designs I would love to see but I personally REALLY like this one. It's very clean and simple and looks amazing, well done.
I can't say enough about this design! It's very clean and straight forward and I could easily imagine the team wearing something like this! Well done! I really hope to see this as their final choice!

There are a lot of good concepts for FXO to choose from and yours is one of them so I wouldn't be concerned about comments on them. The only reason many people aren't getting comments is because other than your competition and the FXO staff I doubt many people are going through all the submissions. More than likely your competition isn't going to compliment your work as they have their own, and the FXO staff doesn't want to reveal what their favorites are until the end to ensure they get a large variety of work to choose from.
That probably doesn't help much but it's the most obvious scenario for why more comments aren't being thrown onto certain concepts.
I'm so excited to see who wins! As much as I really am hoping to win there are some super amazing designs in this thread. Good luck to everyone and thanks to FXO for offering up this opportunity.

Agreed. Gimp is exactly what it's name implies when compared to a legitimate product such as Photoshop. The interface for Gimp alone is much more cumbersome than anything I've ever had to figure out in Photoshop.
Well Achaia you have to agree that the pricetag is kinda heavy on Photoshop or even the CS. For some stuff here and there GIMP is enough to handle the task properly.
Cheap alternative is ULEAD Photoimpact, runs at arround 20-50 bucks as far as i know.

Yeah I know it's not a cheap application. I have connections to get it discounted though so having a professional grade tool outweighs the cost of the software for me personally. I realize that not everyone is that picky or even needs that powerful of an editing suite, I was just agreeing that compared to Photoshop, Gimp is lacking quite a bit.
If you're in college (maybe HS too?), you can get CS5 design standard ridiculously cheap (~ $300), including photoshop, illustrator, and indesign. That's the way to go, and you can use it professionally if you want.
Guys, nothing wrong with a little piracy. imho when you aren't using the program for monetary gain, well then you shouldn't have to pay for it amateurs and students included. Leave that to the people who are professional photographers, graphic designers and such like. Students will buy it when they are qualified, shouldn't have to lay out that kinda of cash when you are studying. It's not realistic
The designs here are sick, some of you have some real skills.

Actually their is something wrong with piracy. The fact that you don't want there to be something wrong with it so you can feel better about what you're doing, does not make it so.
It is completely realistic to expect students to invest in their design training by dropping a mere few hundred dollars on a software tools powerful enough to make you a millionaire on their own. The 'buy it when I have money' excuse is a croc. Who really brings themselves to pay for something they've already taken for free?
On July 27 2011 05:20 0neder wrote: It is completely realistic to expect students to invest in their design training by dropping a mere few hundred dollars on a software tools ?
A mere few hundred dollars while being tens of thousands in debt and eating a single hot pocket for breakfast lunch and dinner (and i dont mean one for each meal). This is the situation some students are in, and the majority are not much better off.
Got a couple hundred dollars to throw away during a time like that? I wouldnt think so.
Unless you have a pretty little trust fund from rich mummy and daddy, or your grand parents just died. It is COMPLETELY unrealistic for students to be able to shell out that sort of money while still in education imo, shit, i know people who work 7 days a week 12 hours a day on top of classes and have shit all to live on.

Oh well, maybe they're just going to eye the votes for a little bit to see the communities favorites then decide for themselves. If they don't actually just use the vote as the final decider and just use the communities feedback to choose from the top 2 or 3 I might have a shot still lol! I don't get how the design on the shirt in C is supposed to look like. The design is wrong front or back, upper or lower of the orange/black. It doesnt work if turning it around. as the drawings are now it would look strange.

I believe he actually fixed the shirt design in a later post. As for the back he just seemed to copy and paste the color, so you are right, it doesn't technically make sense. But I am sure we all understand how it should be ^-^

Yeah I believe I fixed it in a later post. I do realize that the one they put in the OP for voting is technically wrong but I'm sure they'll have it corrected before it prints. All you have to do is just mirror the back of the shirt to go the other way and it will work perfect.

I REALLY like the jacket for E! Like that is a total boss jacket! I also like C, but I think the lower half should be orange, the black and white doesn't look good. You know, a lot of the pants seem kinda boring.
I really don't get why mine isn't even in the finals I mean, I know there are REALLY some great works there, but a lot of people don't even get a mention Well, I gave my best.
What i don't get, despite beeing in the finals (without a chance to win at all) why did you pick the pre-version instead of the acutally intended 2nd Version?

I voted for A because mine is not in it (^^) and C doesn't make sense with the waves. It should be inverted, but maybe that is and outdated version. The style of it is great though. (but I still LOVE the option A more). I would have voted for Option I, but unfortunately the jacket and track pants are not as cool as the shirt.

This makes me so sad. So a simplistic design will be changed to another simplistic design? A is so simplistic I can't understand why it gets so many votes. Damn, another lost chance for a cool team shirt design :/.

I enjoyed making my design and the 2 days I spent from thumbnails through to full vectors. I appreciate the opportunity of this contest FXO, thank you . (this is sincere !)
i could have made a more complicated design like the others.. its a question of style you know ?

Achaia i love you :X
Haha thnx mate. Looks like you are pulling further and further away in the vote. All I can hope for now is that FXO is actually making the decision themselves and not solely based on the vote lol.
congratz to the dominating winners. i really send athe whole saturday and sunday night on E (my version, the ugly one) and im working with photoshop about 4 years or more. since i work so much at designs this showes me how bad my shit actually is. mb i should kill myself when i cant even confince more then 4% of the people for what i do. failures gonna fail. peace out

To be honest I actually like your design better than most. I'm surprised that you're not getting more votes.

yours is pretty cool i would love to see that but maybe on other team dunno i think simple stuff would fit better fxopen style but i dunno i mean no need to be sad
I find it interesting that the only one done by a professional designer was not a finalist. I'm not surprised though, lots of people are too proud to accept the opinion of a designer. I guess the tacky martial arts uniform look is what you're going for.
At least there are some cool jackets in there.
In my eyes, Teamliquid remains the best foreigner team in terms of branding and design. Everyone else is tacky, amateur, and stuck on the over-the-top gamer meme.

Why doe you say such a thing? my first layout (the wrong one) made it in. yes some good ones didnt made it in and i dont know why, some others had there final removed but a pre-stage added - that just adds to the confusion. And sadly 0neder public oppinion is a way to rate a layout, not the only one but it sure is part of a total rating.

Not really mad, I knew I probably wouldn't win- TL isn't a dedicated graphics site and most votes will come from people with limited experience in graphics so it was predictable. I guess I am inevitably disappointed though in spite of this.
To explain why, around 3 years ago I entered a photomanipulation contest online (prize worth ~£1000) and submitted a piece. I was expecting to come top 5 minimum. I spent 2 weeks working on it in my free time. I came 62nd. From that point on I made a rule that online design contests were not worth my time or energy. I realised the level of imaging quality, the detail within the design process, and the attempt to do something unique were irrelevant to most people, despite being the core of graphic design/imagery for me.
Anyway last week I broke my own rule even after concerns over the clarity of the contest rules and specs. Despite immensely enjoying the project I took on, and the excitement of the design process, I've again been left ultimately frustrated for both myself and a few other entrants.
I don't mean to insult or flame the artists personally, It was just a release of frustration and its just what I feel.
It's a damn tshirt you dont need to make a revolutionary design for a tshirt it just has to look cool i mean if they wanted they could have paid a professional guy and do it this was just a opportunity for us the community to feel like we contributed to something.. why isnt that enough why so much drama you cant allways win..
and yes im not a professional or anything, but one thing i have is good taste, i allways made jerseys and a lot of other stuff for fun and for friends if that makes me not suitable to win oh well...

For not meaning to insult or flame any artists personally you sure did call out some specific entries that you seemed to view as amateur...
Also, photomanipulation and clothing design are very different animals. Just because you can make a cool picture (and I do think that pic you posted is very cool) doesn't mean you can design cool clothes. I happened to get lucky enough to design something that I liked and a handful of other people have as well. You're not being judged by a panel of art experts here. It's a group of gamers and their personal tastes.

Not only is the leading design simplistic in technique it also looks ugly as shit. I hope FXO has fun rocking that ugly embarrassing disgrace to humanity when they're in starcraft tournaments, they will probably end up losing because of how ugly that shit is. Congratulations on your spectacular feat of making the worst thing ever made by human hands

Somebody put on their cranky pants when they woke up this morning.

Why not?! Why the hell not?! Why conform? Why be boring? Why be content with whats standard?
How can you call yourself a graphic designer or claim anything of the sort when you make that comment. The whole point is to be new and exciting and different- to make a statement.
I love how all the tools that qq'd so hard about templates and shit have the worst designs. And the kids who just buckled down and went at it came up with what the community thought was the best.
Then start getting butt hurt when the vast majority of this community thinks they are shit.
"Omg everyone else in the world must have terrible taste if they don't like my design, there is no way that i just have zero talent, like omg."

No but the thing is, the leading designs (At least, A and C) actually DON'T have any talent. They're literally just text and logos placed in an extremely cookie-cut layout. Maybe voters like the looks of the logos and the templates and that's why those designs are getting the most votes. Certainly more believable than the concept of people actually liking the design itself, which ranges from completely generic to just downright ugly. If the people having the final say on this have any sense, they'll make the community's "input" on the design have little mass in the final decision of the winner - so maybe they can actually have a nice design instead of the decision of some circlejerk camaraderie voting for objectively ugly designs.

I have to agree A is pretty bad.
That said, all this elitist 'but I'm a designer for real!' whining is ridiculous and their designs are not that good either.
Not butthurt, I just hoped that something that showed a level of professional restraint would be a finalist. Photoshopping and design are much different things.
If FXO wants the yin yang kung fu look, that's cool. I just think it could be something with broader appeal that you wouldn't be afraid to show your girlfriend.

LOL you're so sad it makes me laugh. I'm not sure if you're an idiot or a fashion guru. It seems that one or the other must be true because you're talking as if you're a clear authority on the subject. Since you didn't actually grace the contest with an entry of your own (which would have clearly won I'm sure) you're not a guru. This must mean you're an idiot because you're talking out of your ass about something you know nothing about. It's cool though, there's plenty of people like you who will say stupid things on the internet to make yourselves feel better without the risk of backlash as you cower behind the anonymity of the internet. Idiots will be idiots.
@0neder - Are you considering your design to have professional restraint? Because honestly I'm not even a little bit surprised that your entry didn't make it.

Yeah nice logic there, as if I'd actually waste time entering in a competition where entries as terrible as yours can actually rank highly in the finals. Whether I'm a designer or not makes no difference, I'm just identifying ugly designs for what they are - ugly. I'm as welcome to that opinion as you are welcome to the opinion that your ugly piece of shit excuse for a design looks any good. Whether you have the majority on your side or not means no difference to me, as you yourself pointed out its a forum of gamers, not designers.
oh god... so much hate im actually starting to feel bad :\
guys i could make anything the other guys did... i was just thinking what would look cool and what i would like to use... thats just it..
i never said i was a professional designer or anything...
im really not impressed with what you guys did yes there could be something innovative and that would look cool.. but i didnt saw anything like that sorry..
cant we all get along ? all this hate is making me sick

Well, you didn't follow the rules.
It must contain:
The FXOpen Bull/Bear logo with 'FXOpen' and the slogan on it (the pants may just use the logo)
Guys, chill out before I call on the hot_bid to come in on his valiant steed.
I hire designers to do many things, and there is nothing unprofessional about the top designs chosen. At the same time, if your design was not in the ones that are being voted for in the poll, then you either 1) Did not comply with the rules of the tournament (having fxo bullbear logo or razer logo) or 2) We felt that a colour scheme, pattern did not fit with what we were trying to achieve.
Although, I am thankful for everyone who has contributed to this thread as well as FXO, its truly appreciated. People need to settle down.
No one was excluded because they are/are not professional, they were excluded just because it didn't work for our goals.
The voting on the poll, is 'similar' to my own personal opinion on the designs also, with the top 4 (Although not in the same order) being the ones that I would find not only the easiest to produce, but also the more fitting to the community at large. Note:- The community at large are not designers, but are gamers.
Edit: Removed my retort for the sake of the thread. I wasn't trying to deliberately flame anyone in the thread and FXOpen has requested peace so I want to be peaceful.
On a side note: FXOpen, how long will voting be open for and how heavily does that weigh on your final decision? Will the winner of the poll be the design you use or is the poll solely to collect information to make a final decision?
Sorry guys, F is the most well-rounded. While I agree with the people who like A, the back of that shirt with the GIANT logo is rather obnoxious. Orange/black is the pimpness imho.
In summary, the correct decision:
Use the JACKET from A (I think thats why most people voted for it) Use the SHIRTS/PANTS from F.
Trust me, as I did a lot of press design in college and worked with my roommate to help startup bustedtees.com.
Thanks to FXO for putting themselves out there btw. Wolf has done a good job promoting them during the gsl. And of course, thanks for letting us have some imput to help you guys get it right! Nothing is worse than terrible jerseys (seattle seahawks anyone?!)
Last point - if you use the 'F' jersey, you can also invert the white with the black to make an alternate uniform which I think would look great as well!

Haha whatever you say mate. The thing that kills me is that you literally created your account to come stir up crap in this thread which is just hilarious that you wouldn't "waste your time" entering the competition but you're absolutely content spending half a day talking trash to the entrants lol.
The thing is that I don't really care what you think for a few reasons. The first being that the community is overall reacting very positive to my design. The second is that even if you are some kind of "fashion ninja" the things is that even designers are at the mercy of the masses. A professional designer could pull something together that they hail as the mecca of sports fashion, but guess what?
If no one likes it no one will buy it, which means that designer has failed. My design isn't anything special but the fact that enough of the community is responding to it positively is enough for me to not worry about a negative nancy such as yourself spewing hate all over a thread that was mostly positive until your arrival.
Honestly, if you dislike the designs so extremely much I don't see why you're wasting your time being involved in this thread. Go do something productive with your life.
Half a day? Try a little over an hour...
And there is a difference between not caring to submit something and not caring to speak my mind about the voting sequence, so try to draw a false parallel between those two things. A good artist will make something personally appealing to them and won't care about what people think. This contest isn't about artists. It's about designers - who try to make things appealing to their client. Design is objective. There is a right way to do it and a wrong way to do it, and the fulcrum that balances the two is dependent on the client and how they want to be represented. If the team wants to be represented by slapstick lazy designs like yours, they're free to. My point is my negative attitude is when someone like the person above claims to be able to replicate the other designs, or you crack a "mexican fiesta" joke about a design objectively much better than yours, you're letting this poll get to your head and belittling your competition. You're the one with a shitty attitude.
In any event I'll stop making these posts and continue to watch as the competition unfolds. Good luck to everyone besides A and C.
PS FXOpen its most likely going to be produced as Sublimation Print on Polyesterfabric therefor saying "easiest to produce" doesnt count, i know what im talking about.
Besides that, yes some people that actually toss pixels and vectors arround all day for a living might feel harmed by the votes done and that is there good right to be, maybee not in a downgrading way of rant and TT but they should still be "allowed" to be angry or at least dissapointed. Eventhough TL is about the nicest community on the internet EVOR - it's still an esport community, dont be suprised by rant, whine and angry comments. We are Gamers thats how we are, all natural balls of anger and awesomeness.

Haha indeed. I am going to follow this sentiment and not be involved unless someone specifically has a question for me. GL to you again though mate (even though you're crushing it right now lol) although we don't know how much longer the voting will go on or how much it will affect the final outcome. It's been a ton of fun and this has been a win for me regardless of the outcome just because it's been such a blast. FXO Fighting!
@BatCat - Some see it as boring, some see it as clean and simple. It's just a matter of personal preference and it seems that a lot of please like the clean, basic look.
Out of the finalists, I would choose A/B. I hate fronts that are too busy with designs and stuff. Also not sure why people like F cause all the ones with a diagonal line to make a divide b/w two diff colours are butt ugly.

Adding an unstraight or curved line normaly creates motion and therefore recives attention by a common viewer, thats why.
And why is A so far ahead? sometimes simplicity and clean lines just fit better then anything else fancy or inovative.
I'm not going to qualify my opinion by listing my experience or qualifications or anything because I'm not trying to impress anybody. Plus none of you care.
I've been watching this thread the whole competition and design A has been my favorite from day 1. B & F are a close second, but in the end I still voted for A.
Why?
Uniforms aren't always about being flashy and showing off. I'm a big fan of minimal/simple designs, so I prefer basic with a little bit of flare over complex any day of the week. To me, the stripes on A's shirt are the right amount of decoration to send it from "tshirt with a logo" to "mega nerd baller uniform." The more restrained the design is, while still having a little bit of flare, the classier it looks IMO.
Another point I saw someone make earlier in the thread was the fact that in the end, these are uniforms for a Starcraft team. While a lot of the other designs are graphically very well designed and clearly took a lot of time (D comes to mind), in the end they reminded me more of a soccer uniform than a Starcraft team shirt. I just can't imagine a bunch of guys sitting around in front of a computer wearing such an athletic looking jersey. In fact, the details remind me a lot of the design details on the Jabulani World Cup soccer ball.
Also it's important for everyone to remember that time and effort DOES NOT equal quality. I know you're very proud of your designs, but just because it took you a few days of significant work doesn't objectively make it a better design than one that only took 2 hours. You may feel that way, but it's not true. If you are a professional designer presenting your concept to a client, they're not going to ask "how long did this take you" and change they're opinion because it took 3 months.
Best of luck to the entrants! I definitely want to buy whichever one wins if/when FXO decides to put them up for sale.

Thank you so much for posting. I looked at football shirts and other sports jerseys during my initial research, and this style became my ultimate goal, so I'm glad I hit this perfectly. Sports teams often wear bright and bold kits to stand out from the crowd, with fans wearing the same kits as a result of personal loyalty rather than for fashion. I didn't want my kit to make people say 'looks like something I'd put the rest of my wardrobe' any more than a Man Utd kit does. I didn't feel any piece of clothing with multiple logos and sponsors on it should try to skirt around with simplicity. I wanted my kit to scream 'this is FXO and we are not forgettable' so if I managed to achieve this but it was disliked anyway, then so be it.
I appreciate your post, its made me feel better to be honest. I know my design had essentially the highest level of vectoring/imaging precision that could be expected for this contest, as well as the one of the longest processes. (Time certainly does equal vector quality, overall image quality as well as level of variation and experimentation)
However I do now understand that perhaps my vision of the FXO brand (as a sports team and a fanbase) was just too different to that of the general public on the forums to be taken seriously.
So much hate sprang up in this thread over a simple design competition. o.o; It's only a competition and if you don't win you don't lose the rights to your work, you can take it elsewhere like I plan to. Besides, competitions should just be a means of gaining inspiration. If you win that's great but only one person can win, be realistic about your chances.
Anyway, good luck to all the finalists! :D
Since everyone is doing it I voted for Option I. It's certainly not the easiest to print by any means, but in terms of quality I believe that one is the best of them all. It encompasses the logo very well within the design and stands out much more than some of the other ones.
My other choice would have been Option B however. It's the most minimalistic I would say but it's straight forward and works very well for what FXOpen is looking for. It's basically the most "jersey" looking I would say and so that's why it's my number two.
i think most of the at least european football (soccer) jerseys are pretty simple the important is to make it clean, classy, sexy and show the brands..
often the teams with flashy kits are teams from lower division who dont have talent so they have to wear flashy jerseys so people notice them
IMO, E and then F are the best. I must admit, however, that A's jacket is baller... I just think the shirt is much lower quality than that of E and F, especially E
If Gizmos option gets chosen which seems to be the case I hope the players will use the jacket much like TSL uses their jackets with the collar on stage. The t-shirt looks decent but the most awesome thing with Gizmos design is the jackets with the collars. Use team jackets when playing! :D

I agree that more time = a higher image quality. But image quality doesn't equate to a better overall design, either. Not saying that yours is bad by any means, but I think (as you suggest) that you had a different vision of the kit than the community did. You were going for "this is FXO and we are not forgettable" but I think most people (including myself) were instead looking for something that was simple and cool and fit in with the simple Korean style kits.
I'm actually a professional Web Designer and mine didn't get into the finals. I'm not angry at anyone, I see that those in the Finals, almost every single one, deserves to be there and that a lot of guys are pretty talented and gave a lot of thought to their works. And I would NEVER question one of those works just for the fact, that mine didn't make it. That's not how I, as a designer that works with PS etc. since like 9 years, am working. Because as a Designer you know what you do will always stay a matter of opinion. Sometimes you hit the point and 90% of the people say WOW, sometimes you miss it and the people who matter think it's not what they wanted. That's the same thing with my music. Just keep calm and carry on
I just hope for a little shoutout or whatever to EVERYONE who tried, that would be the least to do I think. I mean, every single one of those people put a lot of effort into it and they did it for free for whatever reason they want to choose (loving esports/fxo, seeing their work on GOM, want to be unique and have one of those).
Note: I have written a lot of this yesterday but I had to stop because I realized I had attempted too much when expanding all the options with proper criticism became more of a chore. So I left it and finished it today. The options will be done somewhat randomly, I wasn't able to follow a set pattern to judge and have no desire to add this in later because it add's very little eitherway and I feel it would be more of a waste to not post it. The focus is on specifics. This will be heavy on criticism, I don't go rude but I cannot spend the effort to put it nicely either. Hope this is understandable and you will look at it overall the same way I have done. Which is as a learning experience. But also to attempt to influence the final design to take the best parts and try to combine it. I'm convinced the most important is to have the best a final design can be. The first part focuses on the contest itself, the second on the individual designs.
I'll run through my thought process quick to give some feedback.
First of all it's the poll. I believe you should have all the options visible by default, and force people to scroll down and look at every single one of them before attempting to bring out their vote. As it is now I can click to C, say that's cool and not bother clicking all the tags and just voting C. That takes away from the whole contest since every vote made like that deludes the real "all options weighted" votes. Also opening the thread and immediately seeing the poll results was a bit of a surprise because I lost my innocence to individually check out the designs and make my judgements, and then look at it prepared. I'd even say for this, "hidden" poll is desired because again, if that even factors in on a couple votes it deludes the whole contest in my opinion.
I think at a glance they look quite similar to each other. I haven't followed the thread in it's entirety but it seems like the designs have not developed much past their initial creation. And for drawing towards each other, almost attempting to do the same thing but better than the other guy, has kicked real cooperation out of the window. What I deemed to be the most important because now here we are, if one of those is gonna be the design don't you think it could've been better? If so then the fans will miss out on that. Maybe I'm totally wrong on this and it's due to an unrealistic desire that I had personally.
I like that almost all the designs include the total set of clothing types that was challenged to be designed. Some seem to miss a jacket and with others I had to look again if they even had a jacket because the only difference seemed to be an additional collar.
Note: At the moment of writing this note I'm almost done writing all that follows, I have gone way out of control. At a glance it seems the explanations get larger and more in depth at the end, you aren't crazy for seeing that because it's true, which is because I went truly crazy. But! Many things will overlap so keep in mind what is said later on also directly or indirectly reflects back and expands on other pieces.
A Clear difference in type of clothing. The jacket looks really clean. All together it actually makes me think of die mannshaft, I think there are some general resemblances. I don't like the black and white contrast and also don't like the huge open spaces. Very bland pants especially when you will have shirt overlapping the top which is the only place that has something. Doesn't look cheap but overall too little personality added, a few tiny stripes and two stripes on the jacket leave only the logo's. Let's say from a distance it wouldn't look as special as a uniform can be. It looks good, it just doesn't look cool. Would've liked to see a more daring design.
B It's hard to say because there isn't much to make it stand out. It is very minimalistic. It just has the logo's on it. The type of clothing is really good though. The shirt really looks like a jersey and not a t-shirt. With the smooth collar you see in wet-suits or jerseys and the longsleeves. Also like the jacket type because it's like my regular jacket. Outdoor type brand, nothing fancy, just durable and gives a bit of a tough look. I see the stripes at the side and I see the different way to fill in the hoody, it's just not doing anything. It really is the most minimal to not make it look like almost any plain shirt. As with most I think the pants are unjudgeable apart from that they look like rainpants. I'm not sure what to think of that, doesn't seem comfy indoors.
C Almost the best shirt. It looks more like a total item, the design is more daring and I'm a huge fan of "grey" color sets. So what you have done witht he orange makes it match incredibly well with the dark grey. I would have liked to see more filling on the right shoulder and the right backside. Also think the arrow that comes from the bottom at the back ends way too high to connect properly to the front, which connects much lower. That would need to be moved down and then the back would be even more empty. Jacket has almost nothing going for it, like the snow white and the deep dark don't match at all, no border line makes it feel like a cheap transition and for the rest it doesn't have anything besides necessities. Pants are "ok"
D Too many colors, too many variations, it's hard to say what I'm actually trying to judge. It doesn't seem like you are confident in the vision you would have to represent your creation. So you try o sneak in all kinds of variations to appeal to a large audience but I think that is actually hurting you in this case. Might be better to look at what your audience really is. Another thing is that it almost doesn't look like clothing because the edges are so sharp. It's hard to imagine what it would actually look like in reality. The traditional way seems to give a better view of your design than the blueprint does. I dislike the race shield a lot. It's not really useful and compared to the other logo's lacks a lot of depth being only two colors and flat. Also the light blue added in seems like a very particular taste.
E This is gonna be really stupid but I love that type of jacket. It defines baller. It radiates awesomeness. It takes up space. It says: "I'm here, what you gonna do about it?" It's shiny, imagine how it will look under different lighting. Yeah, it will be able to have tons of different looks because of that. I think this is very important. And at the same time it's very bad. This type of jacket might not be possible, so if I vote for this design because of that jacket I will have wasted my vote. While this doesn't have "super cool graphics". The printing is one with the jacket. Look at the letters they fit in perfectly, don't distrub anything yet still serve their purpose. Also the general filling is clean enough to make it feel balanced and fitting. Maybe you can add in some patches, I don't know, it's probably better not to, if it need be it will be added anyway. Best pants in the calm dark passive styling for the simple reason that it moves away from the one big coloring yet does so covertly, not abruptly. Also then looking at the lines make it seem logical or functional they go this way, like additional padding for places that are more prone to wear. Also huge fan of subtle grey color changes like this. It fits well and allows you to do things that blend into each other. I did not like the shirt however. The back seem ok apart from the orange which is just a bit too much but the front is way too "special". It really has this streamlined look to it, this is what you put on a motorcycle helmet or suit right? So while that in itself is cool, I don't think that theme of "speed" fits with the look you get from looking at a pro. An intelligble or like "computer logic" (raw) look would probably fit well.
F Really good presentation. But I think it's the similarities to the current outfit that makes this one less interesting even though it's really nice. Do keep in mind while the players wear black/orange, Wolf for example will wear white/orange. I think this doesn't give a better design than the current one, since it's for all intends and purposes the same, but done differently. A curved stripe instead of a straight one. Diagonal instead of as a band.
G,H,I are all hard to take in consideration seriously. As reflected in the votes. I think this is due to the way they are presented. The auto scaling of tl making it look pixelated, fully white background and the items aren't displayed as big as the others. This makes it hard for them to stand out. That is actually where my judging stopped.
G This one has it's image cropped and scaled down making it look pixelated. A on top of eachother layout would've been a lot better, also in hindsight. I do feel thinking ahead like this does belong to the total value of the creation. Since equivalently it also takes away from it. What sucks is that when you open it, that's when you get to the see many of the details well. This get's dismissed so easily since tons of people won't open the picture in a seperate window before judging it. T-shirt looks cool, has a very good fill to it. The coastline border makes it feel Australia is in there. Representing, adding in personality. The implementation of the lines is somewhat questionable. The bottom is very empty which makes it look like a miniskirt. Also I know I said I don't like the race "buttons" so why would I like the race ones now? Because it's actually race nationality. That is so important and something you cannot get away from. Morrow can switch back to Terran but he will always be a Swede. Even during the beta we had EU vs NA vs KR showmatch series. Every sport has it, it almost transcends the sport itself. So really great addition here, they should all have this feature! Pants are hard to judge again, they are all so empty. But this has a reasonably good feel to it and actually did something, the linesplits into two lines and follows different paths, that's a world of difference with the other stripes.
H Has almost the exact same jacket as A. White, orange stripes, sideways logo, same type of jacket. The only difference is at the bottom: black border vs no border. And at the sleaves, black end vs orange end. Which came first the chicken or the egg? Is this actually plagiatism one way or another? Unless you guys worked together, which I doubt because then I would've expected something different. Something behind this is what killed the creative spirit of one of them. Cannot take the t-shirt/jersey seriously, it looks really cheap has almost no personality. Again I spot a race logo on the sleave. It doesn't contain any information it just clutters, why not write Zerg under it as well. It's not interesting and also takes away that seriousness or "professional" look that makes the total look cheap. Pants are unjudgeable. I don't know what I think about one stripe.
I The FX logo's blend into a colorful stripe seperating the black from the white is really awesome and well done. Detail wise I think that is the best actually designed thing. Also like the colored and like "3D" name. Shame that couldn't be transferred over onto another design that has the best "overall shirt filling. Even with the end sleaves and border lines, which are great, I don't like where they happen. While the idea does work for the t-shirt. On the jacket, especially with it moved up to the chest area. It just looks like a military uniform where they have that band with accolades or something. Again the FXO logo could be cool but on a different thing. The pants are unjudgeable.
No closing statement other than thanks for reading and hope it can be beneficial to something.

Yeah I understand what you're saying. My point was just that different perspectives yield different thoughts about the design. On one side you have the "it looks empty" and on the other you have the "it's very clean and simple". I'm not saying either one is right or wrong, just those are the two takes on it and right now (based on the vote) it seems that more people are of the "it's very clean and simple" school of though. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder right?

Your point is valid, but what I'm saying is that I am under the impression that a number of people choose this design because they like the look on the templates but may not like the look of the actual product, as it will obviously be larger and the empty spaces will be more prominent. I may be wrong, but neither of us can know for sure.

Oh yeah I see what you're saying. Yeah honestly who knows because I don't know if they've even chosen a specific suit/jersey set to use these designs on yet. It would have been much better for the competition (from a standardization stand point at least) if they had given us a template of the specific clothes they were planning on printing on that way everyone could design to that. Maybe they wanted to actually see what kinds of kits everyone envisioned their design on too though? I don't know, we'll see soon enough I guess once they announce the winner and print their first set.

I entered my design right before the contest ended. I stated in my first entry post that the bull/bear logo would be on the shoulder sleeve since I didn't have time to finish it. My entry also had the razer logo. It's fine though, clearly they want something loud and over the top, and that's cool (although I don't think it's ideal). I mean shiny space suits were the original Pro SC uniforms, right?
I don't understand how Option I has so little votes. It's so awesome. I think it might be hurting from being so far down on the list or something, and lazy people just don't get to opening it.
I voted Option C, with Option A and E close behind. I LOVE the puff jackets in E, but not the pants... To me, C had the best combination of a very good shirt, a great jacket, and solid pants. I also like the fact that it didn't include the green color of the Razer logo, since it really doesn't fit well into white/orange/black.
So many great designs though, it was hard to choose. Really good work everyone!

yeah not a fan of that shirt..
Agreed, I really liked the shirt of C, A's just seemed to boring, didn't like the massive logo on the back either.

Just curious is all.
Based on the post above I think that Gizmo's design won.
This is why it's usually a bad idea to have a voting process on picking designs. It seems like a good idea since it's democratic so in theory you pick the one that makes the most people happy.
But really, since there are a lot of choices, the "majority" vote is only 33% of the total, meaning instead of choosing the design that makes the most people happy, you chose a design that pisses off 66% of the people that their favorite design that they voted for wasn't picked.

thats what happens in all contests doesnt matter for how much you win.. if you win you win ;o
So when are they supposed to have the winning design produced? I've been keeping an eye on the FXO players in the GSL hoping to see the new jersey kit but they're still wearing the old stuff. The contest has ended nearly 2 months ago now. I want to see Gizmo's design come to life already! :D
