Yeah buddy. It can be really calming to sit and spend an hour or so drawing. Have some chillstep on in the background.

I need some reading recommendations for vacation. I've got a trilogy lined up but I may need more or just stuff for the near future to pick up. Anything goes that seems interesting, as long as it would be appropriate to discuss in this Lounge

What genre of books are you interested in? Also anyone have some resources for beginner drawing? I suck giant noodle but always wanted to try it out.

Like I said I'll read w/e as long as it's wholesome. I haven't read the Dresden Files and I just thought of that so I may have answered my own question for now but I'd keep a list.

Soniv, can you tell me what's special about those shorts? I'm interested. But not in your pair specifically.

Duolingo doesn't offer Cantonese but just noticed Irish is a course... is that like Gaellic or somethting? Teut?

Dresden is pretty wholesome. There's some violence but it's rarely if ever over the top in gore/brutality (none that I can think of but it's possible in some of the darker ones). There are a couple scenes that are risque, but it's not like GoT with constant booberinos.

Sooo Witcher 3 is still blowing my mind.

Now 20h in and 15% completion. Nowhere near bored. Still so much stuff to do. Plus there are all these little things that improve the entire experience. Events you can happen upon whilst riding around, the potions replenishing after meditation, decisions I make actually affecting the experience and story.

This might be my GOTY already.

His next series is completely different too. Steampunk with moderate magic and sci fi elements. Hype levels: yes.

req i will def read his next series, does that mean that dresden files are over?

LOL first page plebs get reqd.

@Mordek I really like the Dark Magician Trilogy by Trudi Canavan. I thought it was a cool take on magic and they are light and fun. Some of my favorite books of all time (the first one is a biiiit slow but push through). They are fairly simple and easy to digest. Definitely a guilty pleasure.

@Req Rosetta Stone or Pimsleur come to mind as far as audio type programs and both have cantonese programs. I believe they are a bit pricey, but this is for the Otter so the money is worth it! Alternatively you could be sneaky sneaky and find a tutor. I am sure you can find one in your area pretty easily. But then you run the risk of her finding out. Or thinking that you are cheating on her sneaking around a la every romantic comedy ever.

@Req^2 I have heard people not enjoy Witcher 1 and 2 because of the combat systems and some overcomplications? Someone was complaining about it in OT not too long ago. I started Witcher 1 and have enjoyed it thus far but I only made it 10 or so hours into it before I got internet and became consumed by the Legendary League.

I didn't play the first two games either but I'm still enjoying the story thoroughly. Going and reading the character pages helps a lot.

I'm using a controller and it's great. Don't really think mouse and keyboard lends itself to 3rd person action games.

I think my biggest complain is the combat is just okay. Sometimes it feels really cheap and coming from Bloodborne it doesn't feel nearly as nuanced.

In the Witcher 3 I went for a sword oriented build and that might have been a bad choice. So far at least the combat isn't getting any better, but it's not boring me yet either.
Great game, great story though.

I'm playing it with keyboard + mouse, I've never had much trouble with playing 3rd person action games that way and it feels pretty good to me.

For those of you not in the know but like free things, GoG is giving away Battle Realms. An old RTS gem made in 2000-2001. I always feel like I'm shilling for the site when I bring these up but I just figure you guys and anyone reading should have a chance at free stuff.

I got witcher 2 when they gave it away on gog last year and I just didn't care for it. Wasn't bad just didn't really draw me in. Well except for the elf hating, I can get behind disliking elves.

Yeah, maxed out heavy attack is my only skill in the offensive tree, everything else is in magic. Quen healing shield OP.

Combat mechanics aside, CDPR gets a lot of props for being one of the few studios to design CRPGs that give you real agency in how the story progresses, rather than masking a linear plot behind fake choices.

I went for the full quick attack tree, so now I've got crit chance and crit damage that still doesn't damage anything and a helicopter attack that's near uncontrollable. At least I've got the Quen shield as well. Yay!

I'm playing TW3 with a 360 pad. Works fine.

The only thing I sometimes have trouble with is the horse. It sometimes is annoying and stops at random moments.

But this Witcher is far more open world than the others were. Those were more hub to hub movements. Here you have huuuuge maps. Like I have spent more than an hour in Novigrad and still haven't seen the entire city.

The world definitely feels more alive than other games too (Skyrim for example). The changing weather, day/night cycle and how that affects everything, so good.

+ Show Spoiler +
And Ciri's so fun to play as. Even though Witcher has quite a lot of nudity in it, I do think it's female characters are pretty neat. Better than most games with fantasy settings.
