We used to oppress women, gay people, non white people, and non white people from any poorer ethnic groups, or anyone from other religious groups. Now we mostly limit our systemic oppression toward bronys teemo players and filthy casuals. Say what you want about going backwards in some respects or whatever, the overwhelming trend in civilised countries is toward general fairness. The countries that continue to be cunt-tries tend to enforce their cuntness with excessive guns and violence, or strong religious movements. (e.g muslim countries, christian countries when it comes to anti-gay rallies and such) I think it's fair to say education and free discourse combined with new generations of people less set in their beliefs tends to solve the problems if they are identified. To clarify: It's stoppable. I'm saying that for the people who are being oppressed (often in a lethal sense), it's very difficult to stop. On August 04 2015 08:50 Slayer91 wrote: The power relations in a forum are basically admins and everyone else. Any other kind of power is just perception and social pressure or whatever which means not a whole lot really. + Show Spoiler + You're taking things a little too seriously here. Plenty of people post really dumb shit and get away with it mostly because nobody cares that much. (i.e not on the issues you seem to be talking about since there are a lot of people who take it super seriously no matter the context). To clarify: By 'power relations' I meant to refer to a specific term used in the social sciences. The term is broad in scope, and includes institutional power relations (admins vs everyone else) as well as social or systemic power relations ("perception and social pressure or whatever"). There's lots of easily accessible research material you can find if you want to learn about how the latter is significant. Regarding the 'ok' thing, I don't think we actually disagree. On August 04 2015 08:50 Slayer91 wrote: .+ Show Spoiler + "Objectify women" -Pretty much the whole purpose of every Kpop video is to objectify women, and the same with pretty much all boy bands, they are like romantic/sexual objects.. Are you basically saying that pretty much all forms of pop music are evil? I mean I kind of disagree with the whole fight against objectification thing, since just it's basically just a product of sexual desire+ Show Spoiler + , it doesn't degrade anyone at all. If you find someone sexy and objectify someone, if they suddenly turn ugly you don't suddenly start wanting to have deep conversations with them. There are 7 billion people on earth you can't have an interest in everyone. Sexual interest can lead to romantic and intellectual interest and vice-versa. . It's more like if these same people suddenly had no sexual desire they would still have zero respect for women but they wouldn't have to interact with them so much so it wouldn't bother as many people, but they still wouldn't let them vote. It's not that they don't value them because they only see them as a sexual object, they already don't value them for anything but sex so they become a sexual object to them. -"Promote cisnormative discrimination of queer people": I'm not sure where you're finding such malicious agendas on a gaming website, but if you're talking about people using the word faggot that's clearly a massive stretch. (Maybe not clearly, I'm sure you disagree) To clarify: By "promote X-type of oppression" I don't mean to say that some group of people has an agenda that they're acting upon. I'm saying that they are creating/sustaining/reinforcing the validity of X-type oppression, although it is almost certainly not their intent to do so. For example, objectifying women is in many cases just a specific instance/form of misogyny. I do agree with you that much of the discourse supposedly about objectification is overly concerned with (over-/hyper-)sexualizing women, which isn't the same thing as objectification and also isn't problematic for the same reasons as objectification. The cisnorm thing was in regards to many of the things that come up in LLL from discussion regarding 'ladyboys', and sveeral other related topics. As I said, in and of itself, it's not much of a problem, so again I don't think we disagree necessarily. On August 04 2015 08:50 Slayer91 wrote: There's nothing inherently wrong with this. + Show Spoiler + When a bunch of grown men started watching an infant girl's TV show about magic ponies it's fair that they have to fight to justify their existence and become the proud bronies they are today. Blindly accepting everyone's choices doesn't necessarily make sense. However in the case of genderqueer its obviously completely different as this is pretty far from a social choice. Obviously some people believe it is and they are just going through something similar to a teenage emo phase and thats why its an education problem leading to the oppression. I agree. To clarify: I was describing a social power dynamic as it exists (regardless of how it should be), and I gave an example of it acting positively (imo) as well as an example of it acting negatively (imo). On August 04 2015 08:50 Slayer91 wrote: + Show Spoiler + "Unless the joke is being used in a way that it highlights the absurdity of racism and in turns help to combat racism" Which pretty much the definition of satire as a case in point? Is it really reinforcing the damage? Will someone who isn't racist become more racist than he was? Or more likely you think the closet/open racists will become unboldened by the support and use it to further their racist ways?+ Show Spoiler + It's possible, and then you could be weighing the cost vs benefit. However I suspect it's more like "people who are victims of racism will see this and feel even more victimized/isolated". Is there any real proof or studies done for things like "people who hear racist jokes more likely to accept racism" or "people who hear rape jokes more likely to think rape is just fine and dandy"?. Yes racist people will tell racist jokes but it doesn't mean telling racist jokes makes people racist or more accepting of racism. To clarify: I was specifically regarding when satire fails in it's point. Successful satire would be as you describe here. Also to clarify: We are conceptualizing racism (for example) differently. You're using a common perception of racism that frames it as acts that individuals do. I would refer to this concept as discrimination, or individual oppression (as opposed to systemic or institutional). I was referring to systemic racism, which is when racist attitudes, values, norms, and social practices become normalized or accepted in a society and begin to benefit from the power relations ("perception and social pressure or whatever") of that society to perpetuate themselves. It's a property of a society rather than a property of individuals. So to answer your questions, no, I don't think failed satire will cause someone to become more racist or more people to become racist (although actually the latter probabaly happens, too), but I do think that failed satire can reinforce the attitudes/values/etc as listed above. Obviously if we disagree fundamentally with the existence of social power dynamics and such as I've described then we're just not gonna get anywhere, but otherwise again I don't think we disagree with each other here. On August 04 2015 08:50 Slayer91 wrote: + Show Spoiler + Sonnington wasn't making "jokes" because there was no punchline per se. The previous discussion was making a mountain out of a molehill and attacking a complete strawman of whatever sonnington was saying. To clarify: I was critiquing the validity of the idea that Sonnington wasn't being serious in a satirical way - In other words, I mean to say that either Sonnington was either (1) being completely serious, (2) failing at satire, or (3) making some other kind of comedy/joke-without-punchline. I think it was the third thing, possibly absurd comedy (but not satire)? I'm not particularly familiar with types of comedy aside from this one specific critique of failed satire. I was indeed being dismissive. I'm also ok with Sonnington being dismissive towards me, which has basically only happened once and he's been pretty good about it otherwise (please note that I made a typo and used the word "similarly" when I meant to say "similar", here). I mostly included that bit (I'm referring to the tattoo thing btw) for completion's sake, kind of like the next quote thing in which I'm responding to a clear joke. On August 04 2015 08:50 Slayer91 wrote: you're saying non idiots really like kpop? (hi scip req) No, those qualities aren't logically disjunctive, so lacking one quality doesn't necessitate that you possess the other. On August 04 2015 09:04 Slayer91 wrote: "We don't want any of that content here" is actually quite oppressive in itself. You're assuming that you have the backing of a large group of people who don't necessarily agree at all, and you're basically encroaching on someone else's free speech.+ Show Spoiler + If you don't agree with an idea then you can argue your point but having 3-4 people say "we don't want you here" (assuming it's not specifically against forum rules) is basically saying "a few of us disagree wtih your points of view so get out of here" which is as I said is pretty fucking oppressive unless you have a good reason why they shouldn't post that thing, why not just ignore them? (if this statement offends someone: replace with Zess is totally right here I think/IMO/IMOHO/IMTNRHO*). *Stands for "In my totally not racist humble opinion". This is a fair critique. Generally, the common name for this is that I would be "speaking for" a group of people that I don't actually represent. It does encroach on free speech. However, I didn't do this, and never said "we" (I think. I might have somewhere as a mistake? If so, 100% my bad and you're right to call me out on this). I agree that Zess is right if you interpret the post as Zess asking us not to speak on behalf of the whole forum, but I don't think that's the right interpretation of the post. On August 04 2015 09:14 Slayer91 wrote: Looking back to what I think I traced as the start of the shitfest™ what originally pissed off TheHumanSensation is that Sonnington was like "blah blah tattoos don't do this. especially girls".+ Show Spoiler + He used a sort of strong statement (not prefacing with IMTRNHO) implying to him that he has some sort of authority, while combining it with sexism. Why shouldn't girls do it. Because their sexual appearance is their only value? Because men are valued even if their appearance is tarnished because of the PATRIARCHY??? It's a pretty fair thing to attack however he just said "Please stop" instead of explaining why he thought it was fucked up. Which is the type of dismissiveness/oppression that TheHumanSensation seems to be trying to fight.+ Show Spoiler + Gaze not into the abyss bro. Anyway looking forward to your response THR, I'm gonna go to OppressionTube and propagate the patriarchy all over my keyboard. Well, that was the second discussion, the first was a sloppy mess of miscommunication that ended up somewhere completely different from where it started (K-pop -> miscommunications -> discussion of oppression -> miscommunications -> ???) which is why it's basically impossible to follow. Also I was mostly pissed off because of unrelated stress that iirc I explained to Parnage regarding university bureaucracy. To clarify: By "please stop" I meant to convey the idea that I personally don't enjoy the posting of such ideas, but not speak for other forum members. Also I think the actual post was something like "could you not do the "especially girls" bullshit". Despite my long posts I'm actually pretty lazy with referring to previous pages so I'm not 100% on that one. I'm not against dismissiveness and I'm often very dismissive, particularly when it comes to basic questions that can be found via google. I do agree that my comment was dismissive, but not oppressive, for what that's worth. re: sonnington I've seen your PM but I haven't responded to it yet basically because I've only made two posts and now a third, and I did stuff between them. (1): Basically not, no. Teut made a bunch of posts about you, and I responded to Teut, but I'm not trying to make any broader points about our previous conversation, aside from that I disagree with Teut's interpretation kayfabe. (2): The post regarding Zess is completely unrelated to our previous discussion or my opinion of you / your posts. (3): Uh, well, sort-of? It's related to women, who are an oppressed group in a very broad sense, so it "has something to do with an oppressed group" in that sense. However, I don't think your post is problematic or furthering the oppression of women. For what it's worth, my answers to your questions would be as follows: + Show Spoiler + Have the K-Popsmiths crossed the line?: no. Are these pretty young ladies wearing proper attire?: fuck the notion of "proper attire". (technically a "yes" I suppose?) Are their stunning dance moves pornographic?: idk it seems to me like sexual people masturbate to everything Is this video over sexualized?: no Are the K-Popsters moving further and further into deviant behaviour?: yes, but I don't think deviant = bad in any context Also actually regarding the first question, I do have further questions that you might be able to answer. My interpretation of "k-popsmiths" is the people in the back who write songs / choreograph dances / direct videos / etc. Maybe this is the wrong interpretation. How much power do these people have, in terms of the production of k-pop stuff? For example, could they in theory coerce the singer/dancers into producing this song/video even if they weren't comfortable with it? If this is the case, then I have concerns and line-crossing becomes way more of a possibility to me. If the performers are doing this completely out of their free will and such, then I'm all for it. Coerced? As in, persuaded by someone saying, "All the K-Pop groups are selling sex like they do in the western world and it's making a lot of money. You girls should do it too." Then yeah, sure, just like how Big Band sold sex in: + Show Spoiler + Big Bang's hottest joint of 2015, but not -the- hottest joint of 2015. The absolute hottest joint goes to Wonder Girls - I Feel You.

To think about tournament structure is to think about how to balance both the number of games played with scheduling constraints and other things like player fatigue and general lack meaning for a single given game. In this respect, TI is doing a lot of things very well, and the Bo1 lower bracket start is actually an improvement over many other formats. Looking at other games' majors gives us a pretty clear view of what it could be like if it weren't like this system. In CS:GO for example the group stage games are ALL Bo1 (something that should probably be changed) and they also eliminate 50% of the teams before bracket even begins. In this respect, having Bo2 groups with the bottom 50% having a one-off chance to still make it into the bracket is actually pretty reasonable. Less innovative formats would have just straight up dropped the bottom 2 teams from each group after the group stage games and then had the 5th & 6th place teams start in the lower bracket. These Bo1 games we're getting to watch are a much better way of arriving at the same place while also giving both more games and more meaningful games. Yes, it kind of sucks to see the team you were hoping to make a run eliminated in a Bo1, but they also played 14 other games this tournament and didn't do so hot in quite a few of them.

We're in the jail, I'm unconscious, my friend (Li) finds the keys and starts opening cells to find the king. One has a big snake thing, one has an orc (which my friend tried to talk with, being a half-orc, but the orc wanted none of it thinking it was a trap), one had a little girl with glowing red eyes. The girl quietly walks up to Li and he allows her to follow him. Li then finds the king's cell and releases him, but during that time, the girl has knelt over my body with a hand on my forehead. A couple minutes later, my body stands up, possessed by this body snatcher. As a favor for releasing her (it?), the body snatcher agrees to help us, but also gives us 24 hours to find her a new body, or she's taking mine. I wake up in the child's body a little bit later, carried over the shoulder of my body. I freak out, but I'm a little child and being escorted by a few adventurers, the real king, and a couple guards he summons to his aid. We find a place to hide for the night, and in the morning we go around the city inciting a riot and gathering support for the true king. We storm the keep, the guards are confused as fuck cuz there's the king in rags but they thought the king was in his chambers. We escort the king to his chambers, confront the imposter (a Cambion), and with some quick action by Li we dispatch the threat. We go back to the jail with the body snatcher, she returns me to my body, and we give her the body of the orc from the cell before. The orc's soul is now in the little girl, who Li is now carrying around until she (he?) wakes up. We return to the council chambers to meet with the king, the High Priest freaks out on us for releasing a body snatcher. what a fucking weird and awesome session
