More expensive, lower latency, higher downspeeds, paying for useless upspeeds seems to be the meta between the 2 in Philly.
I open a weak pack and get passed a strong one, I end up with the GW uncommon out of it, and pick 3 is Oketra's Monument, so clearly going a good start for creature-based GW. We even open maybe 5 Unwavering Initiates out of pack 1, I take 2 on the wheel. Pack 1 looks decent and I mainly need to focus on more exert creatures, some tricks/removal (cartouche of strength pls) and hopefully 2-3 teamwide buffs to get a very focused deck.
Pack 2 goes pretty badly because despite my colours being clearly open (and R is too), there's again the syndrom of "here's 3 cards you'd pick highly in the same pack, then 3 packs with only filler", so I even pass 2 Cartouches of Strength (P2P1 Prepare // Fight, later Scaled Behemoth) so despite the great cards opened I have a bunch of mediocre stuff 'cause of shitty card spread. On the plus side I've got 3 Fan Bearers and even passed 2 more so far. P3P1 is Trial of Solidarity over... a 3rd cartouche, because fuck me right? and the rare was Glyph Keeper, as in "you'd switch to U and force it if this wasn't pack 3." I nab Rhonas' Monument right after, then a couple tricks since I'm not going to get any removal.
On paper I can get the nuts, playing 2x Fan Bearers, Trial of Solidarity, Ahn-Crop Champion, both monuments in my colours, and 4+ creatures for 2- and 3-drops. I'd play G Cartouche over the W one or Mightly Leap tho.
Match 1 vs UR spells I walk all over him game 1 because I cast Rhonas' Monument turn 3 and he stumbles a bit. I even manage to play 2 creatures turn 5. Game 2 is slower but I can count of my Fan-Bearers to tap his flyers and punch in. His Winds of Rebuke mill a Javelineer, and his Enigma Drake ends up as 4/4 or 5/4, so if his deck wasn't a bit slow maybe he'd have had more of a chance. Game 1 was disgusting tho.
Match 2 vs UB cycling My left neighbour, to whom I passed the Glyph Keeper. Game 1 he mulls, keeps a 1-lander, scries bottom, plays Glyph Keeper turn 5, I lose (I had Oketra's Follower but he just played a Cartouche of Ambition to make sure I couldn't trade twice, and once embalmed he bounced it). Game 2 I'm stuck on 3 mana, with Oketra's Monument but only one plain and a bunch of W creatures. I take a lot of damage from the UB flyer + cartouche of ambition, then Anointer Priest + Monument gives me back 5-6 and I use 2 Fan-Bearers to help Unwavering Initiate + cartouche of solidarity go through. My opponent had Glyph Keeper again but it took him awhile to hit his 5th land and I was kinda pressuring by then so he played something else. In the end I managed to force chumps and finally hit the 6th land for Scaled Behemoth and he scooped (only took 10+ turns). Game 3 I keep a 3-lander with only plains, have some G cards in hand, he plays Glyph Keeper turn 5 again and the 4th land is the 15th card of my deck, yay. TL;DR even with the on-colour Trial in the pack it turns out this format is dumb enough that cutting an off-colour bomb is probably still better for your deck.
Match 3 vs UGb ramp Game 1 he floods out. Playing 17 lands, Naga Vitalist, Bounty of the Luxa, 2x Gift of Paradise and that rare mana dork is a bit too much. Game 2 I mirror the previous round and keep a 3-lander (of plains), it takes me 5 turns to find another land and I'm already as good as dead by then. Game 3 is dumb with lots of lands for him and a bunch of tricks and trial and monument for me but I keep bricking on creatures so I do stuff like Prepare for my 3/2 to kill his 2/3 blocker, or skip turn 5 because he picks up the rare mana dork from Benefaction of Rhonas and I have a quarry Hauler (he did play it and put the counters on it so I killed it for "free")... in the end said Benefaction revealed 5 spells, so despite us drawing the same % of lands (ie. too much, I'm at slightly above half lands and still bricking on creatures) I get off better. Also having several embalm creatures (though he exiles a couple) lets me have more attackers so I can finish him off. Sad game from both sides.
Fun fact: the GW uncommon died before a full turn had passed whenever I played it, usually exiled. Mirrors yesterday. The draft was won by a BG guy to my left, with 2x Trial of Ambition, 2x Cartouche of Strength (when I get buttfucked by pack spread somebody's got to reap the "rewards"), a couple rares like the B removal one, he also had the BG aftermath spell, and decent creature. Basically he got gifted great B pack 2 ('cause his right neighbour was B too), and got several solid G cards from these few packs that had my payoffs all clumped up. Pretty jading.
I'm really starting to dislike this format. It's very bomb-heavy, and you really feel the difference between the 2-3 guys who got to draft removal and the others on top of that. When people open bombs and playables cyclers it's a shore since they're so likely to just draw them. Plus with archetypes supposedly rewarding synergy I just puke a little whenever I see these series of "packs with 3 great cards, then multiple packs without much despite the pair being open" because it feels like it puts the draft out of your control. Sure I went 2-1 and got to pick up Hazoret and Sweltering Suns, but deck quality felt decided by card spread too much (compared to finding the open colours) and the games weren't much fun.
On the plus side, we had 18 people yesterday (we struggled to get 8 usually), and 16 today, with some overlap. Some of the new/returning guys even want to play Standard and we expect 10+ people for Standard Showdown tomorrow, which is pretty great if it means people are interested. Their table open great stuff at drafts too so they get good cards (foil full art land and foil bicycle land yesterday along with decent rares, Gideon, Glorybringer and a couple bicycle lands today).

My new town is starting to build municipal fiber. It's on super small scale and available to only businesses right now I think. But I'm pretty hype.
Glyph Keeper shouldn't really either. I read a comparison that I found pretty apt: SOI only had Elusive Tormentor as the "well now you lose" kind of rare, but AKH has a lot more of them (Cut // Ribbons and Insult // Injury come to mind, as cards that wouldn't make sense at mythic) so you're bound to see one or more of them in each draft.
It's also annoying/intimidating that I'd never know how/when to go toward the synergistic archetypes (like Nest of Scarab or cycling-matters) because with so few payoffs at common, it's basically gambling on opening a payoff and cutting well enough that you'll receive others, or if you're in these colours take the "always medium" cards that'll make the cut or the "situationally good" one that'll make your deck much stronger... the 30% of the time that you'll get there. Especially in a format that seems to promote straight up switching colours if you open a bomb pack 2.
It guess the comparison that comes to mind for me is between UR and UB in AER: UR has so many good cards at common, and being a pretty fast archetype you have moving pieces and can have very consistent builds. UB on the other hand can give you payoffs but is slower and more focused on stalling the game for them. If you don't find them (there aren't that many non-rares, unless you can reliably get Haulers out on turn 4), you end praying that you'll get Serpents in the KLD pack (and that you won't find a great card in the same packs 'cause none of them will wheel). It made me reluctant to go UB even if it seemed open because short of getting bombs early on I felt like I didn't have as much agency on my draft than with UR.

The other problem is that with so many narrow/situational cards like Stinging Shot or Forsake the Worldly being maindeck-able, you end up in the situation where a lot of the buildarounds that could go unanswered game 1 now just lose game 1 because the other guy drew a situational answer that would never make the maindeck in a normal format.
The format is definitely super bomby, and lots of people have realized that. I think the power disparity between the best rares/mythics and everything else hurts the quality of the format. It's a shame because the format definitely has some good qualities and a lot of deep stuff to figure out, but it's quite possible that will just be overshadowed by people getting sick of Glorybringer before the format is over. It's just hard to care about the minutiae when someone playing their bomb makes so much of what happened in the last few turns just not matter at all.
That too. It's like not daring to go deep during KLD because if you didn't get all the pieces to survive all the aggro and the cutthroat tempo of the format you'd just get destroyed and it was easier to draft a beatdown deck than an engine one (and then you get Neal Oliver with a "draft all the consulate turrets" stipulation from his chat in AER who comes across consulate surveillance pack 3 and manages to 3-0).
People were super hype regarding cycling so I was curious to see how it'd play out, but in draft aside from making 1-mana cyclers very good in archetypes with payoffs (our usual winner ended up UR with somebody already drafting UR spells, so he tried UR cycling after P1P1 Drake Haven and went 1-2) and common like Wander in Death and Wasteland Scorpion very good in defensive decks, I haven't really seen it matter much. Sealed gave a lot more room to play around it since it wasn't as fast, but AKH sealed seems to have its own issues.
Re: sealed, I'm trying to remember which ones I enjoyed most... + Show Spoiler +
- FRF I was too new and my pool was truly busted (looking back at Abzan Charm, Suspension Field and W Siege a year later and I needed a double take).
- BFZ block I was too new, I remember having more fun with OGW 'cause my BFZ pool was weird and I got run over by RG landfall curveouts all day long (you guys even got surprised at me saying RG was prob the weakest archetype) - SOI was great, a bit durdly, and tribal, but tribal didn't matter too much that if your pool didn't have one you'd be screwed.
- EMN... Brisela+Tamiyo+Dark Salvation+Ever After if I wanted to go BW reanimate, and pretty good G for midrange curveouts. The next day 11 humans, Heron's Grace Champion, Lone Riders and Ironclad Slayers with Lunarch Mantles+equipments (I think this one was stronger than the absurd bombs 'cause it was more consistent/faster). I can't really talk about the format itself.
- KLD was fun, but I think that's mostly because we all looked at our sweet build-arounds and durdly combos, rather than jam all the freighters and curveout on our opponents. I had a consistent+bomby pool (BG with rhinos and peemas and stuff splashing Disintegration, Confiscation Coup and Saheeli's Artistry) that bombed out due to variance'd to the extremes, other pools were bad to the point where I had issues finding the playables, without anything worth splashing to make up for it, so again that's not representative. + Show Spoiler +
That's also the one with the guy sporting 7/8 rares in his deck (including promo torrential) who only managed to draw with me 'cause he missed that he'd locked me out barring anything but Fumigate or Confiscation Coup (not in my colours) and that he had unblockable lethal over 2 turns... for ~6 turns in a row. He spent the entire match whining about his deck and lack of luck, while Marvelling out a Mastodon to survive lethal or topdecking the Gearhulk to remove a flyer, etc. There was also the guy who thought he couldn't beat me and thus went draw-go behind his dwarf nighthawk and 0/4s hoping I'd mill myself off Padeem, then with 5 minutes left on clock when I finally get a wide-enough board to wipe him, goes t2 Cub t3 Appetite the blocker I played on my end step t4 Chief of the Foundry t5 Self-Assembler.
I'm still salty over these games where I tried to make do with one of my worst pools ever and faced people with good ones and enough luck of the draw that their numerous misplays didn't matter in the end.
- AER had ~30 people each time, both had all decks in the top6-8 be either Gx, Bx or (always 2 in the top3) BG. I only saw 4-5 decks play U or W, and only one person over both events was in UW. Kind of says a lot, Tusker and Snake dominated when people opened them.
- AKH had people do well off of mill or Approach decks, so there's clearly room for it. My personal experiences were forcing UR 'cause my good colours didn't have enough playables and I had a bomb in each of these colours, and it was enough 'cause I also played a bunch of draw, then having shitty pools that got run over, including with the "4x Rhonas' Monument on turn 3 in 5 games" pre-release. Format is super bomby so too much variance between pools and it's easy for one of the players to just not play if the other draws his bomb.
Got to witness a motorcycle accident on the highway today. Heavy traffic, bike was passing between lanes and got too close to a car, bumped it and fell.
We got the biker to the side of the road, he had a broken leg.
Car driver got out of the car and told us her elderly parents were in the backseat and she wanted to get them home and just leave, and demanded the bikers papers to see if he was legal while he's delirious and I'm bandaging his leg.
Two weeks ago it was snowing, today it was 24 degrees. I love the danish weather.

People are wonderful.
Disgusting how some people can be that selfish and cynical. I really cannot understand what goes through their mind in such situations...

I mean there are two sides to every situation. You're driving along and some idiot on a motorbike driving like a lunatic crashes into you, while you have your elderly parents in the back. I wouldn't blindly brand someone a selfish cynic for not putting their entire life on hold because the guy has a broken leg when he almost just killed you and your parents, (and even if uninjured, old people really don't take well to the stress of being in car crashes either,) and probably damaged your car on top of that.
Someone weaving around traffic on a highway on a motorbike, and then causing an accident, and isn't even badly hurt, isn't really the victim in this situation :p

I dont know how the accident happened, I sort of just defaulted to bumbing meant graze against the car leading into lost balance and then crash. If he recklessly ran right hard smack into the car I can understand the adrenaline keeping you in a pissed off state of mind.
The part about her parents I totally understand, my grandmother got dementia on a bad day she wouldn't be able to handle the situation. But the part about demanding to know whether or not he's legal is just straight up scummy, it just screams, "is there any easy way out of any problems" to me.
The accident was probably the bikes fault, I didn't get a good look at it. But the car was just scratched really, while the guy was laying on the highway bleeding with a broken leg.
Like yeah, you're gonna be pissed off about this biker upsetting your day.
But who the fuck yells at a guy who is in shock bleeding on the highway?
