Actually it's the perfect time. Tories are ahead in opinion polls. If they win they're in for another 5 years afaik. Calling it now is smart. If they win they get to remain in power and gut the entirety of the UK's services for money and leave the next government nothing. If they lose they don't have to deal with brexit. Win win imo. Oh yea I'm not saying it's bad for them. It's bad for well, everyone else and is just kind of silly that it's able to happen in the first place. I guess at the end of the day this kind of highlights the massive flaw with democracy. People are short term thinkers and sway so easily that politicians only care about short term shit so at the end of the day everyone gets fucked while they get rich.
Also because poor people get fucked while the politicians scream that the problem is the other people not them and they the champions of the poor so they get elected again only to fuck the poor over some more.

It does kind of make sense to have one now from a general point of view too. While they're obviously doing it because it's favorable for them, it's not like they're massively usurping democracy by doing so.
All major parties have changed leaders since the last GE, and there has been a very controversial referendum. It's kind of hard to carry out proper brexit negotiations when you don't even really have a mandate in your own country.
This way we'll basically have an election to decide which party gets to handle the implementation of the referendum from last year, rather than it being left up to a small majority tory government, led by someone who's never been elected.
It's pretty much a textbook case of where an early election would technically be in the countries best interest.
It's just a pity labour is so fucked... But I guess you can't blame the tories for that

Completely ineffective leader.
Tbh brexit is largely his fault, he did jack shit to motivate labour turnout, and it showed.

Idgaf about leadership, his politics are on point and while I disagree with him on EU in general (except his views on the Greece thing.) Might be good that torys get a majority when shit hits the fan with brexit and the next recession.

Going to take a full listen to it anyway, but is Kendrick's new album that fire?
These reviews are insane.

curious if this will have any effect on Ireland deciding to have an election or not. (original plan was let the guy stay till after Brexit was negotiated.) apparently the answer is no. This seems like a blatant powergrab, snap election when your dominating polls. (i barely follow europe politics) . also apparently this is all Stephen Fry's fault

Somebody stop him from visiting France.

What this will mean is (if things go as expected,) they'll go from a small majority to a larger majority. This will free them up from the threat of a few fringe members of the party playing kingmaker in any negotiations. Having a "mandate" and enough spare votes in commons lets them railroad through their exact image of whatever the "ham and eggs" brexit they're saying they want actually is.
The second effect is that it moves the clock for the next GE to 2022, and with brexit happening in 2019, that means that they have 3 years to try and make people forget about whatever shitstorm happens during and just after brexit, rather than having to sit through a GE while the fallout from brexit is directly in the collective memory of the public.

If we've learned anything from the current situation in America, it's that a mandate only matters if you have cohesive ideas beyond "what we have now sucks".

Just want to say TNG is still awesome. Watching an episode where nothing really changes from start to the end yet so much happens is just beautiful.

Oh, have any of you watched silicon valley? Binged the first two seasons and it's hilarious.

I saw it on TV one Sunday and it seemed kind of hilarious. The guy was making some party on that prison island but then made it Hawaii theme and some dude was freaking out about tabs vs spaces which I thought was just a sitcom joke until Coma went full crazy on us in Skype.

The conservatives definitely have ideas, it's just camerons government without camerons slightly more centrist attitude at the helm.
The problem is those ideas suck for anyone who doesn't come from money

The last episode of the 1st season is probably the best writing I've seen in any show ever.
