15 more months until I'll have enough to own a home. Ezpz. After that point I can reevaluate.

Since I travel a lot, I've repeatedly been alone in a foreign country in rather shady situations.
I've almost been mugged on several occasions, although thankfully I've always been able to realize what's about to happen and get away by jumping on a bus or something. I do realize that if you get robbed, the best "self defense class" is to not be a retard and just give them your money.
But what I'm more looking into is getting the self defense class to prevent against getting attacked by a dog. Because I've been attacked by dogs while travelling before and survived basically by sheer luck. My job in the US also necessitates that I have contact with aggressive dogs now and again.
There's also the story about the monkey, you guys remember that. That happened. I also got in a fistfight in Greece once that was entirely my own fault and ended with me losing nearly immediately.
So, I'm in Thailand for 6 months, that sort of thing is really cheap here, and obviously everybody in this country is Tony Jaa. I've got absolutely no martial arts experience, and have been looking around for a place in town that would give me a basic self defense class over a period of 3-4 months. But I don't really know what I'm looking for.
Is there anybody in TLOT who has experience with this sort of thing, and could tell me what I want or what I should be looking for? Is it a dumb idea?
Do tell. TYTY.
I don't really have any experience with martial arts, but I can understand the dog thing. When I was in Thailand visiting family, a dozen or so ferals nearly attacked me, my aunt, and my uncle before the alpha dog backed down. That was terrifying. So many strays, and a lot of them are hungry and just angry in general.

That is the plan though. I want to be able to go to a realtor and say, "I would like one house please". Its not completely out there. I could probably get one on mortgage now, but those makebthing much more expensive. Just pay off 85% of the house before you move in ezpz.
Plus then I can like, rent rooms out to friends who need them and make more money to cover the mortgage. Super SMRT.

The only downside is, ya know, multiple years of misery and suffering. Not worth it to me.

While not being the one you're asking I assume you mean an unarmed human, in which case it very well comes down to context. A 150lb male is more than capable of defending himself against a German Shepard in most cases unless they're physically not fit at all and instead of fighting back they just lay down on the ground and let the dog ravage them. If it's to the death I'd give great odds to the human unless we're talking special scenarios. Like if the dog is a trained killer then I would obviously favor the dog.
I'm not sure what cca is, and I don't think the gender of the human is important. Other than that the context is important, for example I've never killed a dog so I'm not actually sure how hard that is, but most untrained dogs humans would typically rather leave a fight if able after a significant amount of pain/injury, which is presumably restricted by the context of a 'deathmatch'.
Assuming no items & final destination, both animals untrained, I would probably say the german shepherd because it's killing instincts are better. Even if the human won they'd probably die of wound related complications without access to medical assistance.
I mean it gets tricky because I want to assume the human is wearing clothes, but if you have like a uselessly thin t-shirt + pants then you can take the shirt off and use it as a rope for holding the dog back or choking it. I don't think the average city person with no dog training experience (including the kinds of people who let their dogs run the house) would think of this or put up much resistance and would probably try running away and failing because that's what dogs are good at. So I'd say the dog based on instincts although the human should have an advantage in the actual fight in theory.

I was taught to take off your shirt and wrap it around your non-dominant forearm, then offer said arm to the dog. Most people are strong enough to just do something at this point with the dog preoccupied tearing up cotton(the shirt won't last forever but long enough), like break a leg or flip it and stomp on it's ribs/neck. Basically anything to take advantage of the dog's want to bite down hard on something and not let go.
But then again this implies I have more than 0 training in fighting a dog.

*shrug* just the trade offs we make. You live a lifestyle in which you invest a lot into your hobbies and want to buy a house, so you need lots of funds for that. Unfortunately, it requires you to work a lot. I have no such wishes for grandeur and greatly value my free time, so I don't work nearly as much, but also don't have nearly as much in the way of funds to play with.

All this dogfighting talk makes me sad pet the poor doggies, they just want love. (well most of them anyway, some few cant be helped. though it's still probably more humane to put down a lot of strays.) That said, any human with at least 50% weight advantage should best a dog in a fight. Dogs don't have brains like we do.

They have teeth though, and the advantage that most people wouldn't know how to kill a dog with their bear hands

As said, humans have brains, how to kill something is in it somewhere.

If I had bear hands I think I could kill a dog. (aw req beat me to it)
I always imagined I would knee or punch the dog in the throat.
