I always heard these stories of huge curves and I'd always be like "WHY CAN'T I GET THAT."
My one friend had a class where the class average was a 32. Legit. He ended the class with a high B without ever getting higher than a 45 on a test.
because not all classes are of equal difficulty? @_@
dont need to curve if everyone averages 70 cause its an easy class

Average of 70 is so shitty to me. D: And I'm not even asian. I was always taught if you don't get an A you fail at life.
And i also have known friends who took fairly basic math courses get the curve treatment which is why I was so surprised. Higher level I can uderstand but most of my friends were taking basic courses and getting ridiculous curves because of the teacher making everything harder for no reason and no one understanding how they taught.

High school Spanish classes, teacher used to told us we were super bad on a regular basis, then that he was marking harshly anyway and we could add 2 points to our men to get an idea of our baccalaureate's mark (equivalent to high school certificate apparently; we mark on 20 points). Proved true for me.
Had a maths exams in engineering school that was across departments (we used maths, being in computer science, but others had a more theorical field, or wre simply more focused on it in general). The promotion's mean was something like 5/20 for that exam, with only a handful of people above 10 (one of them had 16 I believe? Impressed the crap out of us). They decided to revise their scale for that one.

I took AP Comp Sci junior year of high school - I got a 25 on the midterm. But since the highest grade was a 50, I ended up getting a 75 lol.
Got a 1 on the AP exam though. I kinda wish I had actually put some effort into learning coding in that class

In my senior year of high school in honors english my teacher was really awesome but she often took personal days, so we had a sub nearly 1/3 of the year where we didn't learn anything and did none of the reading we were supposed to do (the sub never actually told us we had reading to do and was apparently not left any notes about what to read... o.e). My high school had a system where you were allowed to make yourself exempt from 2 finals at the end of your senior year, and most people chose english. My teacher got into a hissy fit because so many students who were exempting her final weren't listening to her, so she made up a shitty study guide that my friends and me who didn't exempt English ended up getting stuck with. Half the final were things we never read before due to the sub, so I wrote an essay in place of the final essay question explaining the situation and why basically the entire class will fail.
Apparently she graded nearly half the students and most were F's by the time she read mine and when signing my yearbook she told me that it was my essay that had her add points to everyone's grades allowing everyone who failed to pass with flying colors. So I ended up with an A and basically saved the whole class from failing. Crowning achievement right there. Basically no one in that english class knew I did that lol.

i took that class too and also struggled really hard with it. i ended up not taking the ap exam but probably would have gotten a 1 as well
